Well, I'm almost done with my house arrest, therefore I'm going to be working on my car again, for both audio & fire department purposes. Right now, I have two Alpine Type S 12" subs on an Alpine MRP-M650 amp, which sound okay, but I'd like something louder. Right now, sound wise, this is what I have planned, as I'm on a budget, but it will probably sound louder and cleaner than my current setup.

2 AQ SDC2.5 12" Subwoofers @ $139 apiece

Audiopipe AP1500.1D @ ~ $150

6.5" Mid + 1" Tweeter (still deciding cheap but good)

6x9 Components + Amp

1 run of 1/0 wire to spare tire slot with XS Power batt

The only thing is I'd like to make the best box, tuned around 32-33Hz, with either a center port firing forward or two ports, one on each side of the box firing forward, subs firing forward, with a slant in the back of the box to give room for bags and miscellaneous items, depending on size. Now the actual question is what would be an ideal box side for two 12's tuned for mostly hip hop, but also for rock and techno? Yes, very wide variety, but it will mostly be for hip hop, not really concerned on how it sound with anything else.

Also, for those interested, I will be purchasing lighting for fire department POV and escort lighting. I'm planning on a set of STL Slim-2's in red/red in the visor area, with Sleek Grille's in yellow/yellow in the middle of them. In the back, a set of Sleek Grille's in red, with an LED directional bar in all yellow, in the rear window, hideaway strobes, Whelen wigwags, and Whelen Epsilon or 295 siren. This will all be later on down the road once I'm finished with training.

This isn't going to be happening immediately (expect about a month before any progress if anything) but it gives me a long term goal to look forward to in the next few weeks since I get to finish school in December. Keep posted and I'll let you know of any updates.

Some changes and progress are slowly being made. First, the box. 16" H x 36" W x 18" D, port 15" H x 2.5" W x 12.5" L, 1/2" MDF, center port, both port & sub on same side of box, probably facing rear of trunk. Someone is planning to buy my Alpine's soon, so hopefully I will have the AQ's on the way, unless someone has a used set of SDC2.5 12's, then let me know.

Second, the amp's going to be on it's way by the end of next week. Traded my 360 to my dad for him & my sister to use, & in exchange, he's going to be buying me an AP1500.1D which will hopefully be here by the time my house arrest ends. And in other news, my friend still has left his Dual 4ch amp here, so along with mine, I'll have both running mids/highs, both amps bridged, one to front & one to back. Not the best, and probably not full rated, but 50w RMS apiece compared to 150w RMS probably will improve the sound at least some. Not really going out of my way to make anything that impressive, but something that's just loud, clean, & on a budget.

Good news. Amp is ordered, should ship out in a day or two, and the subs will be ordered today. Wood was delivered to me so I can mark out some cutouts for the port/interconnecting pieces. I'm going to try a puzzle piece type of connection on all pieces, so hopefully it will work. Box is 36" x 16" x 18", port 2.5" x 14.5" x 13.5", tuned to 35Hz. Took a measurement at my dads at Thanksgiving and the box will fit snug in the trunk. Will post pictures when I get the box back with the pieces cut out and ready to put together.

Got the cutouts measured, all except for the speaker cutouts. Gotta send the pieces to dad to have him use his circular saw or whatever he's going to use to cut them out

Not exact, but nothings really perfect! It's a 12" subwoofer, so 11.5" diameter should be okay.

Going to cut out all parts except the circle. May not have that done today, dunno yet.

Spent two hours in flurrying snow with a jig saw, a twelve pack of Cherry Pepsi as ballast, a couple of towels, and a permanent marker. For an half assed job, no sanding yet, and no prior experience aside from a 2cuft sealed box that was about ten times too big for the 12" sub. Will sand it down later tonight, but probably not glue until next week when I get my speakers. Until then, more box pr0n.

Screwed box together, came out alright for my first real box. Top/bottom about half an inch short depth wise, back piece doesn't flush straight on the bottom piece, but nothing some liquid nails and chunks of wood couldn't fix.

And for those wondering, no I'm not high, I've been up 24 hours straight as of now. Woke up at 4PM yesterday, didn't sleep at all last night, so my sleep schedule's all jacked up. Doing this today though will probably help it.
