So Im not new to audio but new to figuring things out before going to a brick and mortar to get price quotes.

Im currently working on two projects,1 being a complete SQ build in my GT500 Mustang. In this vehicle Im running two JBL Crown 700.1 amps, Two JBL 75.4 amps, and 1 JBL 75.2. Two local shops have told me that simply upgrading my wiring and battery would be sufficient and no extra batteries would be necessary.

2nd project is 05 Ram. I want to install 1 level 4 12 in it and power it with either an SA 1500 or one of DC's new amps. Obviously Id run another amp or two for my mids and highs. Being the Cummins has two batteries would it be safe to simply run better batteries?

Or should I run multiple batteries in both vehicles?

Im willing to spend money on batteries for the vehicles but dont want to run extra's. The Mustang already has alt. issues due to the supercharger, havent seen anything else offered for it. Its also a PITA to change the alt. Im a bit concerned about the voltage these systems will draw. I dont sit iin my vehicles and listen to my systems, only while driving, not sure if that makes a difference.

Sorry if these questions bug some, I just like other folks input that are heavily involved in big systems.

People like you help me regain my respect for the human race. :drinks:

A few simple things first, audio systems draw current, not voltage.

On SQ systems typically you don't need much of an electrical. A good alt helps but a good battery or 2 would be just fine.

A Sundown 1500 WILL draw a decent amount of current and for that your going to want to upgrade your batteries for sure. Find the best batts that will fit.

If you are pretty much only going to play the systems when you are driving they you will want to look into alternators. Basically the alternator is used to power the car and charge the batt, but only if it has to. When you get a HO alt then it will power the car and charge the batt AND power most of the system so the batteries do not drain.

If you keep the stock alt and pull loads of current while driving for a decent ammount of time, then you will start draining the batteries. Drain the batteries and you run the risk of low voltage (voltage drop) and high amperage to make up for it, which turns into fried amps, or indirectly, blown subs.

Hope this helps at all. :drinks:

Thanks Chris appreciate the feedback.

No problem at all my friend, if you have any more questions just lemme know. Have any pics of said charged GT500? I fall for mustangs, HARD!

new wheels. Looking for a better wheel & tire setup for the dragstrip. These are obviously just a "look" pkg

I have swapped exhaust to a muffler delete. It has a tuner, 2.6 pulley and a JLT cold air. Fun to drive. Still want to lower and do some other performance mods, but Im focused in on my sound system. Lots of Sound deadener in this car believe it or not. Lots of road noise and rattles. Doors have a few kits apiece, trunk too, interior is coming.
