alan wilson
why is MDF the popular choice of wood to use? some people have told me not to use it because it can get very heavy depending on how strong you need it to be. is ply wood any good seeing how it is light but pretty strong does the box have to be heavy to sound good? JJ.
18mm Birch ply is the same strength as 1" mdf ( in the UK Birch ply is really damn expensive) so most guys over here if we are trying to keep weight down as we don't got big ass trucks like you guy's we go for Birch on big installs my DC boxes are made from one inch Birch which is $130 a sheet. Also it looks hella pretty the one inch birch is torsionally as strong as 2" mdf.
