Questions about building my own very first subwoofer box

Recommended Posts

I want to build my first subwoofer box but I don't want to make any mistakes and I want the sound quality to be just as I imagine. I want a real low bass. I guess I should tune it to 35hz or so.

My subwoofer is a Boschmann ZD-12XAL and I bought an ported enclosure with it. When I tried it the first time I imediatley heared that something was not right. It doesn't give me the low bass I wanted and it almost sound like my previous woofer 'which is much weaker' sounded better/louder. The car is shaking but that also happens when it's not even in a box, so I think it should be allot louder. When I turn the volume down it sounds a little bit better (my amps are tuned properly). Maybe my woofer box or my port is too small?

I'm planning on building my own box but I don't know how big it should be. I tried a box calculator simulation and tells I need 120 liters, but the manual shows I need between 42 and 52 with a ported enclosure. Could anyone help me please?

What kind of box do I need to build to get real low bass? Messurements, liters, port?

That box looks like shit haha, yes build a new one!!!! i don´t know ANYTHING about that sub, but, it has a very nice low FS and big xmax according to the specs, what power are you gonna use???

I would build something like 60 Liters and 31 SQ of port with a 32 hz tuning if you want to hit the lows very nice!! :drinks:

thank you!

I'm using a Magnat Black Core Digital 1 amplifier. It has 650w RMS @ 2 ohms and 1000 @ 2 ohms, but I can only connect my woofer at 2 ohms, it's a 4 ohm dvc.

What will happen when you make a box bigger? does the frequency go lower? Cause I don't want to make it too big, I want it to be loud too. And what did you mean by 31 SQ?

Thanks for your reply!

I guess you meant 1000 @ 1 ohm, 650 watts it´s VERY small power, specially to that "beefy" sub wich doesn´t look bad at all, ok i´m gonna try to explain as easy as i can, small box gives you more cone control, you need good power so the sub can get really loud, big box need less power but also, they tend to get louder on low frequencies than a small box; Said that, with the power you have, i would build a big box so you can be kind of loud and get the lows nice also.

I ain´t suggesting you a big ass box, but, i would build something like 60 liters, but that´s just me, and 31 SQ means 31" of port area , for example, 10"W x 3.1"H , 6.2"H x 5.5"W , etc etc.

So you're suggesting I should make a square port? cause you're talking about width and height? How about the depth? I'm sorry, I really have no clue how to tune a port correctly and every calculator I use gives me other results.

I know my amp isn't that amazing at all but I don't have money for a better one yet. They said a good amp for my sub is a 1000 watt RMS @ 4 ohm.

By the way, you're system is sick man!

Thanks man, glad you like it!!! Well, you can go with aeroport or slot port, depends on you man, aeroports are expensive but you can always go with PVC and flare it if you need to, in your case, i wouldn´t care that much really, slot port it´s easy and cheap on your application.

PM your maximun dimensions and i´ll help you out!
