dangerick18 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Hi! I'm currently soldering 4 8ga wires to Rockford terminals and I'm using a pencil torch to do so. I'm keeping the flame afar so it's away from the insulation/jacket but still enough to heat the terminal. The very first one I tried worked, but the jacket pulled back a couple centimeters... Is this normal? I mean the jacket is pretty soft and I'm not surprised it melted but... The one on the left is one where the jacket pulled back and I used something to tap the terminal back down so it's flush and then I reheated the solder for good measure. But I'm not sure if that was enough. The one on the right shows how the jacket pulls back without using something to tap it back down. The reason I'm asking if it's still a solid connection, is I've heard when the things you're soldering move in the middle of soldering, it's a broken joint and the solder and work needs to be reheated to the proper temperature to bond properly. Additionally, I'm worried about any left-over residue from the jacket by melting since it's so soft. Like say I tap the terminal back flush onto the wire, any rubber that melted along that wire will then be inside the connection with the solder. Is it possible for a soldered terminal to have bits of melted rubber that mix in with the solder and mess up the resistance?

Maxim Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 I'd say it won't make a huge issue if it's speaker wire, but if it's for power wire for a smaller amp I'd try to fix it/redo the one on the right. The one on the left looks fine though. wtf is lolcats? I'd def get a fat hooker if i had to resort to that kinda thing. I feel like they'd be grateful and work harder. Also its more bang for my buck, more real estate for my dollar if you catch my drift. its like the Costco of streetwalkers. I was hoping for 150 . I was hoping she would let me put it in her butt
