Maticus' 96 "S10" DC Audio Level 2 8"

Recommended Posts

I have put many different set-ups in my truck over the last couple years, since the day I turned sixteen, haha.

Just wanted to showcase the good, and the bad. (many were bad, haha!)

First things first, Here's the truck. 1996 Isuzu Hombre, same thing as an S10 or a Sonoma, everyone just has their own front end.

And now, for the bad.... First box I ever built, ran out of MDF, cut sheet sucked, but all in all it made this shallow mount CVT actually perform pretty well, other than the complete loss of all leg room.

Then on to bigger and better things, first up, a nice pair of 10" L7s, in a box tuned to roughly 43 Hz, fr SPL purposes.

These went on and got me this from a Topeka MWSPL show-

A little video I made when I had them.

I then heard that DC was going to be producing a new 8" driver that would work pretty well in my truck, so I decided I was gonna try a couple and gain some leg room back.

One had a pretty significant problem, though. A badly shifted top plate causing a large amount of coil rub fresh out of the box, but one call to Rusty had another coming my way the same day.

Then there was the box for them. Undercoated with a blue metallic spray, then fleck stoned the top, and used a DC sticker for the logo in the middle before I sprayed the fleck.

After some time I decided I needed more bang than a couple 8s would offer, so I bought two more, and then thought to myself, there's no way in Hell I would drive this thing with no leg room after 4 cubes behind a seat, so I went with a smaller air space, more cone area solution...

I then called up a friend which some of you should know on here. Arik, or Sodfamily on the forums, came to the line of duty for me and built me this box in the middle of the winter.

These sounded AWESOME in the box he built for me, only one problem, he didn't anticipate the power of the level 3s and we didn't put any bracing inside. A couple hours of beatin on the way home and she pulled apart! haha. Nothin a couple of screws didn't fix.

I then had to make my mids keep up with the lows, so I knew the stock 4x6 speakers had to go, so I built some pods out of spandex, CA glue, and a couple of MDF rings.

After some time, I once again decided I needed more leg room in the truck, because I now live 11 Hours away from my parents, and that drive would kill me without comfort, so, I pulled the box out and drove my happy self up to Denver to see my rents. Me and my dad busted ass and ripped out a 4th order blow through in a matter of a day and a half.

A tad bit of the equipment-

This truck will always be going through changes, as I keep progressing in my build skills.

This has all been done while taking college courses through high school and getting the money from working my tail off at Pizza Hut, haha.

Money has always been tight, but it doesn't mean people can't get a nice sounding set up in their vehicle. It just takes some time, hard work and determination.

I'd love some constructive feed back on the most current build, all the other boxes are in the past(thank god for most of them).

Will keep this thread updated.
