jizzybizzy Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 ive been doing some reading on here about battery isolators.. and apparently they are bad. they make the system more complicated, take away from voltage, and kill your alternator! so its just a piece of extra equipment that isnt needed right? HOWEVER. i was told that i NEED one because my starter battery is in the trunk (2005 Saturn Ion 4dr). the guy at autozone (id say he knew what he was talking about, def more credible than bb and cc mofos) said that the isolator was needed otherwise my (stock) alternator would struggle to keep both batteries charged this way (with the isolator) i would only charge one battery at a time. IF YOU DONT LIKE READING SKIP TO HERE FOR THE QUESTION What do i need to do guys? i have a kinetik hc600 and i wanna run it parallel to my stock starter battery (that is in the trunk) that is carrying (1) audiopip 1500.1d amp for subs and (1) audiopipe 1504 for mids and highs... how do i do the whole battery thing. you ain't been bizzy til you've been wit jizzy. Andrew2944r Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 You do not need a battery Iso, just wire the batterys + to + and - to - and make sure to ground the 2nd battery. Team Ampere Audio
Bills Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Listen to andrew, you won't need one. just a waist of money from my understanding Bills KwB Team DC Audio Midwest captain
Got_Bass89 Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Battery Iso do make it more complicated and take away a little voltage but doesn't kill your alt... Battery Iso just seperates your batterys so you can run your system off one battery wihout pulling from your starting battery with car off. So your car will start and when you start it doesn't strain you alt trying to charge low bats... Simple though.. Run your system with car off = Need Bat Iso Don't run system with car off = No need Passport Build Here Alarm: Prestige APS997A 2-Way/Remote Start HeadUnit: Pioneer DEH-P6000UB Front Battery: Yellowtop Optima D34/78 Back Battery: 2x C&D Technologies High Rate Series UPS12-475FR 134AH Subs: 2x DC Lv4XL 18's Amps: 2x Sundown Saz1500's Strapped Box: 12Cubes 33hz 185sqin Port(15.4sqin per cube) Pillars: AudioBahn AS31Q Front Doors: Clif Designs TX40.5 Back Doors: Clif Designs CD50.4C Rear Speakers: Clif Designs TX46.5 Front/Rear Amp: Kicker ZX350.4 Back/Pillars Amp: Kicker ZX200.2(Looking for another zx350.4) Electrical: 1/0 Scorpion Wire 2 Runs Pos and 2Runs Ground, Knu 1/0 Flex Running to Amps ect, Big 3, JL 8Ga For Speaker Wire, Knu Karma RCA's, Scorpion Volt Meter Deadener: 100 sqft Sound Destroyer Mat And SECOND SKIN Damplifier Pro Door Pack
bobonit Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Just get a voltage gauge so you don't drain your batts when you are bangin with the car off. You don't need an isolator. 97 Maxima SE Bunch of shit going in, check out the build Build Log

OK to be totally honest....that guy at Autozone had it a little backwards. Even with the isolator you will charge both batteries at the same time. What the isolator does is separate the batts when the vehicle is OFF so once the vehicle is started both batteries will be connected hence the alt will charge BOTH batteries not just one. Also isolators tend to get dirty and over time will have major voltage drops. You don't need an isolator. 95_1500 Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I asked Dom Iraggi about isolating "system" batteries from starting batteries and he said dont do it and that a name I trust Original Build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=24095
