  1. You may have to get creative with these woofers. You have a box 33 inches wide, designate about 30-31 of that to two woofers. You may have to mount the ports through the top of the enclosure. Not the way I'd prefere to do it, but it might be the only way really. Adding ports to a sealed box requires a bit of compromise. Cheers, Mick

Vent mach is down and you have a near flat frequency response curve. A touch of cut might not hurt though. Two 4 inch ports still, 242mm long this time. That should do you. Enjoy. Cheers, Mick
  3. For two subs? Hell, that explains a LOT. I was wondering if you wanted this woofer to survive long or not..... A second driver? Let me have a play, and I'll spare you the pages of numbers this time mate. Cheers, Mick
  4. Here you go. WinISD has given me this information, this should work for you. If you can, try and EQ out this little rise at around 38 hz and bring 43hz up a wee bit for flat frequency response. I have made this public so other users may comment and ammend data and designs at whim. Go nuts. Overall, you need two 100mm (4") ports, 12" long each. Keep them at least 6 inches away from the walls of the enclosure and you shall be right. Critque away. Cheers, Mick
  5. Sling me the woofer model name, how big your woofer enclosure is (preferably including volume) and what style of music you listen to and I'll see what WinISD throws up mate. Cheers, Mick
  6. Please don't. Just....don't. Hop on eBay or find a dealer for P.Audio. Cheap speakers that have a relatively flat frequency response. Use a polyproplyne cone woofer, designed for a car audio situation, in a home theatre situation and you are going to regret every move you did. As for the sub, the P.Audio HP-15W will float your boat. Or blow it out of the water. Either way. Cheers, Mick
  7. I'm not sure PunkRok. We don't really know exactly what is on the other side of a black hole. It is though that a black hole is a parallel to another dimension (no, not sci-fi junk), for instance converting from matter, time and space to pure string. If a black hole collapsed though, I don't think it would reverse itself and remove the other portal. I would think that it would simply collapse. However, I highly doubt you can use a black hole as a waste disposal unit. For one, once the containment vessel (if created) was opened, there goes your stability. Two, allowing the portal to gain mass and size might just be a baaaaad idea. And three, come on, who wants to replace a trash compactor? Have you ever thrown an inflated truck tire into one of those things? It's hilarious. Cheers, Mick
  8. Atomic bomb...atomic physics made the bomb......yup. Quantum physics is studying quantised energy, as discovered by Planck (Planck's constant, H) and the emission of energy through quantum leaps. I suppose a horse could appear right in front of you, but that isn't the point of quantum physics at all. It's more 'Why is it that you shine a light through a gas and it comes out different colours in a spectrascope? What is this wierd particle thing that appears and disappears and where the fuck does it go?' Alpine, that is quite a backwards train of thought. I guess the men and women that made the first oil well to discover what was under the ground and how to get it out were doing something quite stupid and dangerous, correct? We know we stand on the ground, we don't need to know anything more about it. And it certainly won't help us will it? I mean, we can't run motor cars or generate electricity or create plastics with this thick black liquid can we? Oh wait. IH8PunkRok, instant brownie points to you. That is fantastic book. Cheers, Mick
  9. Yes, the Large Hadron Collider can create a black hole. After all, a black hole is simply a tear in space-time. It does NOT take a star imploding, that is just a cause. A massive amount of mass changing size or mass can create a tear. No, the chances of it happening are massively small. No, we won't all die. If the LHC does create a black hole, does anyone here have any idea how hard it is to keep that stable? Conflicting gravitational fields rips it apart within microseconds. Relax. Yes, this technology WILL help us, Alpine. By colliding Hadrons, we are delving deeper into the sub-atomic structure of matter. This reseach is quite important for furthering our advancement. You like your nice wrist watch with glowing hands? Atomic Physics. Do you happen to enjoy TV or computer? Quantum Physics. Do you happen to use Fluro lights? Quantum physics again. Lets not leave out the fact that there is a good chance a lot more of the world would be speaking Japanese if not for atomic physics. Lastly, the LHC project isn't meant to create black holes. Just like the Hoopty isn't meant to create black holes, but it is pretty loud..... Cheers, Mick
  10. Ray summed it up. You are basically using those woofers as an air compressor. A nice long 30hz wave takes a lot more than half a cabin to form, so as long as all four woofers are wired in phase and driven with the same signal, you should be quite alright. What I am thinking though is that the preliminary chamber housing the four 15's looks a wee bit on the small side. You could be forming a high pressure pocket that is interfering with sound reproduction. COULD, not are. Cheers, Mick
  11. Chode, the fucker jumped about 6 feet in the air. Worst thing was he had already gotten the door open before I got him out, and if I wasn't there and it was just Alice..... And she wonders why I get worried when she is out alone, walking home after work at 2 in the morning through the beckstreets and stuff like that. And yes, if I was more awake, lets just say the only thing I'd be going to jail for is murder. Cheers, Mick
  12. Well, myself and my girlfriend were having a nice nap today. Went to sleep about 2 in the afternoon, woke up about 7 o'clock. Sun was setting by then, and we had forgotten to turn on any lights. The door to the bedroom started shaking, and because that door goes straight to the back deck, Alice just though it was a possum or the cats. But through the door I woke up to see a man prying open the bedroom doors to get to Alice and me. I told Alice to quiten up and get dressed, but the guy managed tp bust open the doors. As soon as they were open, I shot straight up and damanded to know 'Who the FUCK are you?!' and the cunt ran. If I was more alert, I would have called the morgue, not the police. Cops can't do anything either, bad description, no tool marks and no prints. Shame, but they are just doing the best they can. Anyone else had similar stories? Cheers, Mick
  13. Beyerdynamic DT770's. If you want a proper customised pair with engraved name, coiled cable and velvet pads, expect somewhere in between $400 and $600 AUS. However, they are acoustically flat to 20 hz. Cheers, Mick
  14. I suppose it's a case of Opinions are like Arseholes, everyone has one and usually, it's full of shit. I dunno, I think the Rockford Fosgate product looks quite respectable in their specifications. I'm interested. Cheers, Mick
  15. So you know his name and address? Police. Or even better, you and a car load of friends. See, this is why people get beat down. They pull this shit on the wrong person, the wrong drug dealer etc etc...... Cheers, Mick
  16. True. Just picked up a single TXXAP15BL and an AP15001D for a little bump and got a bit more than I thought I would. Not bad at all, I quite like them. Cheers, Mick
  17. Mate, you can't build a ported box without the driver's Theile/Small parameters. You can build the box if you would like to, but be prepared for it to a) Sound terrible, Be extremely ineffiecient and c) Bottom out. If you want to build an enclosure for this woofer, without knowing it's Theile/Small parameters, build a sealed box and get it over with. Cheers, Mick
  18. Tips for your friend; 1) Two four ohm woofers in parallell does in fact come out to the good 'ol 'assumed 2 ohm' impedance. Of course, there is rise and what not to consider. However, when an amplifier is run below it's rated impedance, it draws far too much power for the supplies to handle, and generates far too much heat for the heatsinks to dissipate. It is rated for a good reason. 2) Just because an amplifier is fan cooled, does not mean it will not overhead. Besides, those amplifiers have a poxy, piss weak little 40-60mm fan cooling the board. It is not like a professional amplifier which uses fan forced heat sinks and heat extraction. And even they overheat. 3) Look at the mounting position. Is it in direct sunlight? 4) RED MEANS STOP. IF THERE ARE RED LIGHTS DURING OR AFTER OPERATION, FIX THE PROBLEM. I could say more, but I've had a good day today. Cheers, Mick
  19. If a girl hit my lady I would be happy to suitably restrain her with force. Cheers, Mick
  20. I disagree. With most coil based loudspeakers being around 1 to 2% effecient...... Chuck on some P.Audio SD-21's ( http://www.p-audio.co.uk/products/db_product_1_13_sd-21.htm ). With it's 6 inch coil, power compression is fairly darn low. Plus, it's 99dB/w/m. Heard a pair of these in Ramsdell "Sub Engine" woofers. Yeah, no balls left. They are gooone. Then again, I'm just biased. The Solo-x's do look like a nice beasty woofer, but can they really handle 10K? I would have though around 3-4k...... Cheers, Mick
  21. Shotgun the console if you get tired of digital desks.... If you grab anything made by ATI (especially the Paragon II) I will REALLY be envious.......... ...But no, props on choosing some great gear. I hope all goes well for you Chicken. Just remember to get a coffee machine. Trust me, you'll love/need one. G'd on you matey. Cheers, Mick
  22. No. Class D is PWM technology, that is Pulse Width Modulation. In other words, 'digital.' Class H topology is a multi stepped transformer/power stage. So at low power levels, the power stage is fed from a lower winding, higher power uses a higher winding on the transformer. Class D is not very good at reproducing high frequencies as that involves having the oscillator set to a much, much higer frequency, often beyond its limits. It also sounds 'clinical' and adds a sense of distortion to the overall tone. Class H is effecient and powerful, yet is still heavy, bulky and has its power limitations. In short, Class D is good for low frequency applications where high end fidelity is not needed but a metric dickton of power is. Class H is common in many Pro Audio amps as it can drive almost anything you put on it, and do it well. And no, Class H is not improved class D. Lab.Gruppen's class TD and RF's BD is though. I still reccommend grabbing a TAPCO and throwing that on, one coil a side. Parallel the amplifier so that both sides of the amp recieve the same input, put both attentuators wide open and prepare for take-off. Cheers, Mick
  23. I hate how people call Professional Audio products Home Amps. Jeebus. Cheap power? Grab a TAPCO Juice 2400w Class H amp. That will do it just fine. Cheers, Mick
