  1. I get a strange feeling that number was completely arbitrary. If you were hitting 155+ with two subs on 1000W, you: 1. Would know you were a ground pounder 2. Been to many many more shows 3. Had engineers design your box 4. The meter was bought on eBay. I second the BS.
  2. BTW, I said it will give ppl an idea of what to do...this includes me haha. As of now, my status in untested at full power so this helps me get an idea of whether I'll be safe too. I'm kinda new to 5000+ Watt systems.
  3. Post what kind of electrical upgrades you have dome with your setups and list what they are running. List everything like wire, amps, alts, batts, modules, etc. This will give everybody some idea of what they should do for power upgrades. Power: Alt = 300A Iraggi Batt = (4) Kinetik HC2400s Wire = 4x 1/0 from under hood, copper buss bars, and 1/0 in battery bank Setup: Amps = (2) Memphis MCD4KWs (pulling 400A each) 8000W RMS @ 1-ohm and (1) Memphis MCA2004 4 channel. EDIT: Also Big 3 with double runs of 1/0 Memphis wire.
  4. This is exactly what you need: http://www.caraudiomag.com/technical/0203c...sics/index.html
  5. Well the resonant frequency of the car isn't always necessarily the peak frequency. And not only the tuning of the box, but the dimensions play a big role in how the waves travel through the car. I've had the MOJOs and they were awesome and they respond well to either music or excessive power (however you apply them). I would suggest tuning higher with the MOJO if you're going for numbers. Run a sweep on a sealed box close to the same setup as your planning (facing forward, up, backward, etc) and have it metered. Then play around with a few port designs close to that and move the box around to find what works best. There are way too many factors to just tell someone what the best setup would be. Check out this website for how to find a good box design for your car: http://www.caraudiomag.com/technical/0203c...sics/index.html
  6. Dude, I know exactly what you're going through and I don't think I could ever explain it better than you did. Everything you said I completely agree with and I got back last February and we're going back out next year. But venting is the best thing you can do. Especially to people who understand or are just there to listen. Just make sure you take all the help you can get! I took them for everything they were worth and now I'm a lot better off than when I got back. Don't be afraid to see someone if you start slipping into something you know you don't want to do... I would just hate to see someone else end up like some of my buddies. Thanks for doing what you did! And no matter what, you can always talk to me about the shit that went on over there.
  7. Well, I used buss bars in the front from the front battery and at the entrance to the bank in the back. I have a lot of tools and stuff flying around in there and I get really nervous with metal tools around those batteries. Buss bars make for easy accidents, but I have more buss bars on the way and that will be the final power upgrade before the amps get permanently set. They are very convenient and worth it.
  8. Haha, I didn't even catch that, that's good. Alright. I guess I'll just try it out and watch my voltage. I figured more batteries would be what it took. Thanks for the help!
  9. Well guys I forgot to mention one thing... According to all of the ppl I've dealt with including Dom, it seems impossible to get another alt in there without extreme modification... So I'm kinda stuck with the extra alternator idea. And yes, the power wires and ground wires from battery bank to amps will be < 12" long.
  10. Any of you who are running 6-10kW, what kind of upgrades did you do for power? I'm sure I'll be able to support one of my amps, but I'm worried about running two of them. These amps are power hogs but they perform very well otherwise... I'm trying to run two MCD4KWs @ 1-ohm which should be about 8000 RMS. But according to tech support, they pull about 400A at full crank. I'm hoping to dampen that with a line driver but I'm still worried. Do I have enough to power them as a daily driver? Or should I just use one for listening and both in comps (assuming I'm hitting numbers)? -300A Iraggi -(4) Kinetik HC2400 -(4x) 1/0 wires throughout
  11. That's a pretty nice setup. If you have Photobucket host your pics, you can use the <img> code to post the pics. Under the picture you just click the code and it copies it for you.
  12. Well, the good news is you can get some of the off brands pretty cheap. And the worst that could happen is that it doesn't help, but I guarantee it won't hurt your numbers heh. I consider it mandatory with my installs. But that's just my opinion.
  13. You have no sound deadener? Well, I can guarantee if you even single layered the trunk you would see and even hear a difference. I recommend double layering all of the weaker surfaces (cieling, doors, lid, etc.) That should yield some better numbers! You'd be surprised what it can do.
  14. Does anyone know where I can get good bus bars to strap my batteries together? I need two about 46" long.
