  1. Earth, well that kinda' sucks. I could have sworn I've felt cold air blow from those with my AC cranked.... No ? Peace, Fish usually, those under the seat vents are routed with heat when the hot air blend door is in the heater position. most heaters have floor settings, and that's where you would get anything coming through those ducts. the a/c primarily is upper ducting only. I have seen custom ducting ran from an a/c vent to channel cool air on an amp. As far as the thermal issue, I have used those style RF amps, and i was able to get mine to thermal and shut down many times. A little more sensitive then i would like, but not too much of an issue unless sitting still on hot days/nights. The fan had more noise then i cared for too, but only a bother at lower or idle volume levels.
  2. Right on. Thanks again for the replies. Cool stuff to read about Peace, Fish Ps, Bass_stalker, I'm sorry man... But I just can not read your screen name as 'bass' (deep frequencies) vs. 'bass' the fish So then I'm like > Well this guys gotta' be cool, he's a fisherman LOL
  3. Wonder ! Dude, that's freaking awesome ! Thank you. Will download it now.... and be cranking it tomorrow Oh but hey guys, even if the intro for the "Beats Antique" vid I posted is too long / low.... then just fast forward it to 1 minute ! I'm telling you guys, "It HITS" !!! + it's got a really smooth flow to it, and it might even help you to pick up some hot Indian babes LOL I was just kind of hoping on that last 1... no scientific evidence Peace, Fish
  4. Update: I did kind of read 1 little thing after the fact, that made me feel a little better about "that red indicator LED" that I saw flickering. I thought it was the thermal protection switch about ready to shut me down.... but in reality, it was only saying that the internal fan was finally starting to have to come on {first time in the 3 years I've owned it !}....So it might have taken a good time more to overheat, before it actually shut itself down > Although that's hard to believe, when the fan is just now coming on, but its already so hot you can't leave your hand on the heat sink ! GEEEEZ, I wish their was someway to capture all that lost heat energy ! Oh and HEY, check this out > My truck was "supposed to be a 5 passenger vehicle" {yea' right } but I ripped the rear seats out in the first month I bought it (brand new) However, what I still have are these thin, flat ducts, that start at the AC/Heat vent, and end underneath the front seats, pointed straight back at the rear passengers...... And was already thinking, "wow, I bet you that vent exit could be pretty easily routed right to / across my amp. So, on a cool night, I could close all of the other vent ducts, put the thing on low AC, and direct most of that right across my amp...... If I ever get around to it....Or, by then I might have 2 or 3 different amps. We will see.... Peace, Fish
  5. Does it really matter to you what genre a song is considered to be from ??? Personally speaking, I couldn't give a flock less If I like it, I like it. Somebody over on one of SMD, and mines YouTube vids, made the comment > "Fish looks like one of those guys that would like country". So what does a guy that likes country look like ? Old, bald, and white" ? LOL Seriously though, I have about 1000 songs on my flash drive, which does actually include a folder for country. I think I have about 8 or 10 songs in it. And then, it just so happens, one of my favorite (more normal) songs as of late, has been, "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry, which I suppose is considered to be pop/country. Hmmm. Okay. Anyway, the reason I ask this, is that I just have to believe, that every once in a while, some people will hear a song, that "they almost start to like"..... until it dawns on them > Wait a minute.... I think this might be considered country.... or dub-step... or whatever else... And then they start thinking, "But I wouldn't want somebody to think..... I think people that allow themselves to be overly influenced by other people (followers) are missing out on a lot of music which they might otherwise really enjoy. Kind of a shame, really. Hmmm, Fish
  6. So last night I decided to take a little cruise out to the marshlands near my home. I didn't even think about it on the way out, but with it flat calm, the mosquitos were just rediculous ! As I pull into the boat ramp area, no sooner than I park the truck, and kill the lights, and I probably already had 20 of them in the cab ! I swat at a few and I'm thinking, "Well this is gonna' suck" {expecting it to be a short parking}. But I go on and crank up a tune...... Then I started wondering.... "Could a mosquitos little light weight a$$, even function well enough to bite me, with my stereo slapping" ??? So I turned on the cab light for a minute to watch them, and they were basically just completely effed up {Good ! Little bastids trying to bite my a$$ ! } Between songs, or during a mellow passage, they would finally land..... then, just about the time they were getting ready to bite, "BOOOOM" ! It wasn't like it scared them into flying away.... but more like it litterally knocked them off their feet So their you go, slapping car systems are WAAAY better than OFF mesquito repellant Peace, Fish
  7. You guys and your 30 second jobs.... What if she needs more than that to get off ??? LOL Seriously though, I guess if you were competing, 30 seconds (or is it, 40 ?) is all you would need. But heck, I sometimes give demo's (or multiple, back to back demos) which last 30 minutes or more. So I guess my 2 hours before thermal protection kicks in, is pretty good. It's pretty crazy, I'm running the stock electrical system in my F150, and granted, I'm only powering 1 amp, but the birth sheet shows over 1500 wts RMS (however many amps that takes) and when its cooler (like last night) I can maintain over 14 volts for a LONG time. I think it had finally started to dip to 13.8 or so, when my thermal light started coming on... Peace, Fish
  8. beat the living $#!+ out of your system, without having any problems, heat protection lights, etc ? Well, I found out how long and hard I could crank mine tonight About 2 hours, and maybe 30 songs. I was kind of noticing that in spite of the fact it was a nice, cool evening, I was able to stay warm with the windows down LOL My Power 1000 is like one of those big a$$ wall radiators Anyway, after 2 hours of straight abuse, I finally had the thermal protection light start flickering. Of course a minute later, one of my stereo buddies walks out of work, totally wanting me to crank it up Figures. So we talked for about 5 minutes.... I started flipping through a few songs at low volume... when all of the sudden my partner was like, "Ahhh dude ! I love 'Beats Antique" .......and damnit, I just HAD to blast one more song ! No more therm prot lights I shut her down right after that though. I'll be damned.... I guess that thermal protection light really does work ! I think if I had been driving the whole time with lots of circulation, I could have cranked on it indefinately....or till my head asplode ^ This is the benefit of running more resistence than the minimum for your amp. My sub ch could be ran @1ohm, but all I'm asking is 2. If this ain't loud enough, I need more / bigger amps / speakers ;-) Peace, Fish
  9. Wow, 9 cubes net ? That's a big box for two 15"s. Not saying it's "too big". I don't know enough about your actual subs to make that kind of judgement. I just know that my box is 7.75 cubes net, for my two 15"s, and at least a few people including SMD himself, said my box was pretty big for two 15"s...... Hmmmm.... Fish
  10. Beasties were the shiz back in the day. And they were doing stuff, which at the time, white boys from Brooklyn just didn't do. They were stepping WAY out of the box. Use to crank the $#!+ out of them like 25 years ago. That song was pretty cool, but this video edit sucked IMPO, of course. Fish
  11. I made a GREAT musical score last night, when I stumbled across this website / blog > http://www.sophistefunk.com/ It's basically many pages of music reviews, and IMPO, the guy doing these reviews is pretty much spot on. You can listen to any of the songs listed, and 90+% can be downloaded for free. Stayed up WAAAY too late last night checking out crazy, cool, new stuff.... Here's a few of the songs I downloaded. Haven't heard them in the truck yet, but I have to believe some of them are going to slap...... + this is the kind of music that has a lot of content for the rest of a properly set up system (mids/highs) too Even if you don't like the intro (I love it) give this one at least until 2:20 for the breakdown Kind of a long one, but I think it gets better and better towards the end.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62VASkbu1gw East Indian meets techno If you like Skrillex, you will like this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctCRbkTbQCg Peace, Fish
  12. Good point. And I totally like to have a system which will pound for hours, if I want it to. Mine will, and has, on many occasions Fish
  13. Have you seen a bigger increase (and been more satified) by a doubling of your speakers (speaker surface area) or by a doubling of your power ? I know... I know... we all want to do both, right ? I've read that each of these things adds approx 3db's. Granted, that is totally variable, and certainly wouldn't hold true if you were already hitting 158db's or something crazy in the first place, but just to make a point.... Just wondering.... Fish PS, Going from my old 12"s to my new 15"s (approx doubling the sub surface area, huh ?) made a HUGE difference ! If that was only 3 db's..... holy $#!+ ! Can't wait to double the power, too ! Oh snap ! My 666th post !
  14. Do ALL trunk subwoofer setups rattle like a beee-otch ?!?! I'm sure some of these setups might sound pretty good inside of the vehicle, but nothing sounds lousier than a bunch of sheet metal slapping against itself. If ever I was going to use my trunk as an enclosure, I think I'd fiberglass it all in, and basically make it sealed... or, if ported, the vents would be come into the cab. But is it even possible to have a couple strong subwoofers (12"s, or 15"s, or whatever) in an infinite baffle between the trunk and cab with "zero" trunk lid rattling ??? Don't know about you guys, but that would be flat out unacceptable for me..... Just curious.... Fish
  15. Right on Colin Yea', I dunno..... maybe when you have listened to as much different shiz as I have, you start to stretch for something really different. Anyway how many old crackers do you know, with a current playlist like this (for say, a 30 minute drive) If I Die Young - The Band Perry (country pop) Reptile - Skrillex (techno) Echo - Gorilla Zoe (RB/rap) Basshead - Bassnectar (dubstep) Under The Sea - Little Mermaid and Friends (Disney) We Speak No Americano - We Speak No Americano - Yolanda Be Cool (60's Italian, dub remix) ^ Now that is a great line-up LOL When you stop to think of, EF it. No matter what I play, somebody's going to love it, and somebodies going to hate it, right ? Peace, Fish PS And that's all good.... But have you ever noticed, that when you play some really hard-core ganster rap (or similar), you will get a "whole bunch" of people that are SO freaking good at ignoring you, you start to wonder, "Is my $#!+ really that weak, that they don't even hear it" ??? I mean, when you see them roll up their windows from 100 feet away > They hear it. Obviously, right ?) Then, on the other hand, when I play something "fun" like the vid I posted the link to here {maybe too, it helps that I've got a lot of clear mids/highs.... so they can actually hear, and understand every word.... and Bam, you get all kinds of attention, but mostly smiling, friendly nods, thumbs up, etc.
  16. Man, none of you guys ??? I'm telling you > this $#!+ hits ! + it's so freaking different, with such a great beat, I had several kids just break out dancing, when they heard me rolling.... + at least one "old" Mexican guy, couple older black guys (I'm 47)< all start smilling, and moving with it > all in only a couple trips today, to the Hardware store (10 minutes 1 way). Even gave a demo to a young lady today > and she loved it too.... But nobody here ? Really ? Hmmmm, Fish PS, Everybody has their own tastes, but I'd hate to see somebody miss this one, who likes it as much as I do, that's all.....
  17. Hey Wonder, interesting..... But the version I posted is this cooolest song ever !!! Been cranking the $#!+_out of it in my truck Oh..... and I stand corrected; I thought they were singing in Spanish, so I asked my Mexican room mate to translate it for me. She listened, and made a WTF face, and said, "That's NOT Spanish"..... Itallion maybe.... Uhhh, okay. I just no it ain't English, but it still sounds freaking great Fish
  18. Okay yes. The most recent prime example, was somebodies bass boosted version of "In The Air Tonight". I swear it sounded like the first step they made, was to "reduce" the mids and highs by 90% ? ......just to make absolutely sure you wouldn't hear "anything but" bass, when it hit ??? I mean, if your doing some kind of bass race or something, that's fine..... But don't they have test tracks on CD's for that kind of stuff ? Bass heavy = Awesome ! Total bass washout = Lame. IMPO, systems / tracks that sound like this, sound like a system setup by a novice. Throw in a bunch of trunk rattling, and that's the kind of $#!+ you here around here, with every 10th vehicle that rolls down the street. Peace, Fish BTW, If nobody hears from me for a few days, I'm not ignoring everybody..... I have to move Major PITA !!! So I will be offline for a little bit...
  19. I love techno..... But I didn't know this song was considered to be techno. Really ? Hmmmm... Fish
  20. That's okay man Nothing like a passionate opinion LOL Fish
  21. Alright, so I went and listened to several of those tracks. Now, on my weak little PC system, I had to turn the bass totally down, to play the mids/highs at a modest level, without the little 5" subwoofer getting all whacked LOL Needless say, the two 15"s in my truck will be able to play that same bass WAAAAY louder, before they too get whacked out. So I guess I'll have to try a few of these tracks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ But hey now Pitbull, since you seem to be keeping an open mind about this.... How would you respond to my thing about > If the original track has enough bass, that by using the deck, and / or separate bass controls, I have enough bass signal to overwhelm my subs, already..... So what would be the point in bass boosting ? Of course I understand that some tracks are just recorded with an "underwhelming" amount of bass, but looking over your list, you have a lot of tracks that should have TONS of factory recorded bass, no ??? Fish
  22. Really ? Hmmmm. It's working fine for me. Maybe try again ? Fish
  23. My room mate turned me onto this. Seeing as it has had over 200 million views, I assume most of you have heard / seen it, and already have an opinion on it, but I'll post the link just in case. Sounds like it might slap pretty hard..... judging by how it sounds on my weak little PC setup.... Hmmmm, Fish
  24. Sorry if this has already been posted.... The search feature never works right for me on this site.... Anyway, my room mate just turned me onto to this, this evening. Slapped it on my flash drive, and went for a spin in the truck. I freaking love the song..... In spite of the fact "I Speaka' no Mexicano" The video is pretty funny too Slaps pretty good too, BTW. Clean recording. Peace, Fish
