  1. and u need to check ur maths 1/4 wave for 30 Hz is just over 9 ft. Is it bad to tune it 5-6 Hz over the Fs?
  2. As i recall the port area needed to be equal to the total amount of surface area of the woofers. so using ur math, i need 180 in^2 of port. I was planning on tuning a bit higher than the subs FS cuz its so low. Even at 25 in i would need roughly 7" of port width. Tuned to 33.2 Hz is only 8.4 ft for the 1/4 wave. I was going to run both subs same chamber, im pretty sure you can do that. I just need to make sure they are perfectly alligned. I may end up going subs and port up Heres the old one modded a bit to fit the 2 12s. Only problem is that there is too much port area now. I could cut it down if need be.
  3. is too much port area bad on a t-line? EX. say i have 160 IN of surface area between my 2 12s. (rounded number) and i got 180 in of port, cuz of design issues, is that a problem? EDIT: So i got it at 192 in^2 if i stack them. Thats with leaving the port at 8" wide. I can cut it down to 7 but tat has to wait till tonight or tomorrow. That will put me back down at 160 in^2. Cant go narrower than 7 cuz the subs mounting depth is 6 1/4"
  4. well, i can fix that, im takin off in a few to go shooting but ill work on it when i get back to the hotel.
  5. So ive done some math, and layed it out on sketchup. Its gunna be a big box, but i can get 160 sq in of port and tune it to 36-40 Hz. Im wantin to give this a shot, see how it sounds. Next week i got pretty much nothin to do and i figure what better way to kill some time than tryin out a new enclosure right? Edit for pics...
  6. So im lookin to see if i can get anything more outta my setup...Im currently runing 2 clarion PXW1251s in a 5 cube box tuned to 30 Hz. Im lookin at going to about 4.6-4 cubes tuned to 35 Hz, but i dont wanna loose my lows. So now im thinkin about a Tline. Only thing is, how low should i tune it? Tlines are new to me. Subs specs that you may need to give me a bit of advice FS: 30.76 Qms: 6.759 Qts: .545 Just not sure what to tune it to, it will be for 2 12s
  7. IDK of anyone in my area runnin 18s though. I mean, im sure there is someone somewhere, but alot of guts run 12s, a few 15s, but i got alot of friends who think 18s can only get loud and not sound good, i kinda wanna show them what an 18 can do.
  8. So i got 2 clarion 12s currently. Theyre all fine and good. But i have had them for a year, and beat the piss outta them and they still sound great, but i want more boom. Well, some money may be headed my way. I currently have a Kenwood KAC-9104D amp pushing my subs. I was thinking of getting a lvl 4 18 or a lvl 4 xl 18. Some day i plan on either running 2 18s or 4 15s keepin the rear seat. But for now, i think id be able to afford a single 18. I am thinking LVL4 XL, this way i can add more power when i can afford to. Will a LVL 4 XL be alright with only 900W RMS? OR should i just get a LVL 4?
  9. I ended up going with clarion subs a year ago. They were cheap and nobody around me runs them. They are meant for sealed enclosures but i am running them ported and they sound great, get nice and low. I believe they make a 15" version of the PXW line also. If i were in your shoes i would save up and get what you want. Then again, youre going to want to go bigger eventually. Thats why i went to a ported box, then a bigger box to hit the lows better, and now im lookin at some 15s. But i would suggest saving up an extra 120 total and getting 2 SD2.5 15s. Theyre 159 each, so they arent that much more. EDIT: NVM i got my pxw1251s for 72 bucks each feb 08, guess clarions have gone up in price since, even on ebay
  10. I knew when i started it it would be too much, lol. I would probably cut down to one or two dowel rods running in each direction. ex, 2 top to bottom, 2 front to back, 2 on each side of the port from side to port wall. Im pretty sure if i ran it at 1.5" thick i would lose a bunch of volume inside the box.
  11. There are a few kriegoff and perazzi vendors there, beautiful guns. And a few custom stock makers who had some real nice blanks, one guy had quite a few over 4k and a few around 5k. I got a few guys who i shoot with who are loaded, 2 that are sponsored by krieghoff, and a few who are collectors. Ive gotten to shoot the gun of the year from 1988. Nice gun, Krieghoff, guy who belongs to my home club owns it now. Krieghoff family offered him over 250k for it and he turned it down, lol. Must be nice to own your own company.
  12. So im in Frankfort KY for the week and was wondering if anyone from SMD was from around here.
  13. Ill take some pics of it for ya, its a HK Fabarm SC competition Extra O/U. Carbon Fiber finish on the barrels and receiver, and the grain in the wood is pretty nice too. Snapped some pics of the club while i was there, ill upload them and get them up here.
  14. will do, ill try and get some pics. Supposed to be a nice course, the club is on 2500 acres. I guess one of the courses for the main is all shots over water. I cant wait to get there and check it out tomorrow. Hope i shoot well this week, but even if i dont, ive never gotten to go to a shoot this big, so itll be pretty cool
  15. the box is 7 cubes after all that bracing. Even 1" wood dowel doesnt take up much space, all that bracing is i wanna say .5 cubes or less (actually, im sure its less) the box is 38*26*24 with a double baffle top iirc EDIT: 38*26*22.75 EDIT 2: Box is for 2 lvl 4 xl 15s
  16. I know this isnt the place it necessarily belongs, but it is off the topic of car audio, and this is the OT section. So, is anyone besides myself hitting up the US Open tomorrow through sunday in kentucky? Im drivin down from Il and figured id see if any SMD guys will be there
  17. so far im leaning towards a 250-280A alt and 2 XS power D3100 batts. I have a feeling dual alt in a blazer would mean losing my AC, and i dont wanna do that, even though i almost never use it, its nice when the temp breaks 100 like it occasionally does. But ya, im thinkin 250-280A alt and 2 maybe 3 D3100 batts. I cant decide if i wanna run one 3500 on the pair or run a 2000-2200 on each one
  18. Anyone going? Im leavin 4am tomorrow to make the drive from IL to KY, so ill be around that part of KY tues through sunday. Figured id check and see if anyone from SMD is goin
  19. HAHA, i love my sig. Ive been toyin with a few box ideas, got a few that ive come up with, all around 7 cubes net tuned between 30-35 Hz, going to be 2 LVL 4 XL 15s either gettin around 2k each or splitting a 3500 Most recent box design, this one keeps me db drag legal i believe, only concern is having an 8" port that close to the hatch
  20. i used to see RE SE15s on ebay all the time in the 160-180 range, id try that.
  21. Is there such a thing as too much bracin? Ive been toying around designing a box for when i can get my lvl 4 xl 15s (gunna be a bit i think (may have to just get one to replace my old 12s for the time being) and ive made a few different boxes. They all vary in size and tuning somewhat, but negligible differences. For bracing im thinkin 1" dowel rod. And in one of my designs, im convinced i could park one wheel of a car on this thing no problem, lol. But is this too much bracing? Will it effect the sound? It is all placed out of the way of the motor and the pole vent. Anyway, heres a pic of the one thats loaded with bracing. after bracing its 7 cubes at 33 (tuned right around there)
  22. Specs: 7.28 cubes net (after port, bracing, subs and, 45s. 31.29 Hz
  23. edit: internet got messed up on me, sorry for the 2x post
  24. even after the bracing i was still a bit over 7 cubes after bracing and port and subs and all. wow, that was redundant, not going to fix it though. Anyway, i figured id rather brace it to shit than have it flex right?
