  1. get rid of your box and subs and amps and batteries, but wheres the fun in that, i like the no fat chick rule though.
  2. Umm, i can draw that up for you pretty quickly tonight after i get back from school. I drew up one for my lancer yesterday, 15" Fi BL, 3.48cuft @32Hz 54 1/4 sq in of port area.
  3. Went to SIUC for Mechanical Engineering for a bit, then OK State for Construction management. But now I've found my passion. I go to Flashpoint in Chicago for Studio Recording. First time in my life i actually want to get up and go to school, or actually do my HW, and the first time my GPA has been in the high 3's in years.
  4. I had mine for 3 years (9104d) and it hit alright daily for 3 years and sounded good in the process. I knew it wasn't making 900, but damn, this BRZ puts out some real power. So much more bass, the lows are so much better, the bass is cleaner. My friends were blown away by the difference, its night and day. Get yourself a BRZ for a few hundred online, ditch that kenwood, do yourself that favor, I'm wishing i did it sooner....holy balls do i love this HiFonics amp...
  5. Well, i won't ever go back, but i went over for music recording/production. Im attending flashpoint academy in chicago, for recording arts, and they require you to go with a macbook pro to run Pro Tools 10 (which my mac does with ease, my HP would shit itself). Personally, ill never go back to PC. 5 months ago i said id never use a mac... Once you go mac, you don't go back...
  6. Well, pretty much lost all my music when i switched from PC to my Mac, had to reformat my external, and lost a LOT of my music. Now pretty much everything i have is dub step, house, trance, electro, rave music basically. I lost all my rap and chopped and screwed, Decaf's stuff was on a site that got shut down, so i can't find that anymore....Can anyone recommend some good bangers for me? Or spots to find some? I just got my new amp in after a month of NO bass at all (it was hell) and i just feel the need for some good C&S music...
  7. Installed my BRZ1700.1d yesterday when it arrived, put some sound deadener on my rear deck lid ( it rattled with the kenwood, i knew the new amp would be worse). Set my gains, swapped out the fuse in my dist. block (was fused for the kenwood) to a 150A fuse (goes batt. fuse holder, run of 1/0 to trunk, fused dist. block, amp, ground block in my car). Set my gains, and went and cruised to try it out. SO MUCH BETTER than the POS kenwood i had. Headlights dim a lot now though, so i need to save up some money for some wire for the big 3 (I'm in school 40 hours a week, i don't get to work much, it took me a month to save up to replace my amp). Hoping the big 3 will be enough to get rid of the dim, i don't have the cash for an extra battery right now.
  8. I beat on mine at all times, till now, gotta baby it or it shuts down (the 9104D). I used to go to OK State, and drive from Stillwater, OK to St Charles, IL (10-13 hrs depending on traffic and speed) with the bitch full blast the whole time, i had my gains set REALLY low, my 9887 seems to put out decent signal to the amps, but it never went into protect from the time i installed it till last friday on my way home from work. I think this weekend ill take it out and take it apart and blow the dust out, since i still haven't bolted my back seat back in, i just placed it there so nobody gets the bright idea to bust my window (i take the train downtown for school everyday and my car sits in a garage from 630am to 3-4pm unattended, and don't trust the people at the disc golf courses).
  9. Ive been looking before the BRZ comments, and i think thats the way i may end up going, right price point, and I've heard a lot of good things about the brutus series.
  10. I've had it installed for 3 years now, its just now starting to do this, used to take the abuse all day long. Im probably going with an AQ, which I've been wanting to do for a while, just need to save up some cash and keep the volume down for now while the shifty kenwood is on its last leg. I didn't expect it to last this long even.
  11. yeah, need that at 2 ohms, not 1.
  12. Also, im hungover, and a bit of a prick when hungover, and extremely pissed off when shit breaks, since my TV just died a week ago and i had to replace that. So yeah, thats the reason I'm salty this afternoon.
  13. yeah, I've always ignored the 1ohm rating, its only stable down to 2 ohms. I've had it for a few years, i think i know the amp pretty well by now.
  14. i know it isn't doing rated, but its right around 650, which is a bit under the 700 i said. yes its watts law, not ohms law, different laws. and i wasn't happy with it when i switched from the RF to this thing, its way underpowered compared to what i want, but what i can afford and what id like are 2 different things. Im probably going to just baby this thing till it finally shits then buy the AQ1200, which i should have bought back when i was working, not in school... Ohms law is voltage resistance current. (usually think of V=IR) Watts law is power current voltage(resistance if you use a different formula). (usually think of P=VI) You're not coming off in a very helpful way, its coming off as knock on kenwood, i said in the first post it doesn't do rated. I have my MECP basic. Ive worked for shops doing installs, I've done multiple installs. But that was all a while ago. I came on here looking for advice for a replacement. YOU HAVENT GIVEN ME ONE OPTION, so no, you are not helping. If you want to know about my electrical, FVCKING ASK. 1/0 Knukonceptz from front to back, and for the ground, stock alt, stock batt. Now that I've officially came off as a prick today, would you like to help or not, if so, list some amps, if not, piss off.
  15. "As for actual performance, most customers and tests say the same thing, that for the price, this is a great Kenwood amp, like most are. The problem is, however, one customer was quoted as stating that the amp is priced in the same range of comparable amps in the 600-700 wrms range, and it is not a true 900 watt amp. He also said "This amp has been tested at 644wrms @ 14.4v into 2ohm" and "if you are looking for 600-700wrms, this will be fine. But only produces around 72% of rated power (900Watts), as per Car Audio Magazine test," http://voices.yahoo.com/the-perfect-kenwood-kac-9104d-not-so-5408199.html
  16. thats what i was thinking, its nice out, i may pull the back seat and check voltages and pull the fuses out of my amp and check them. But it sounds like its going into protect over and over again, which means its time to replace it. While you are doing that: Check the impedance on the subs too. Make sure they read what they are supposed to and nothing is shorting out. its such a nice day but I'm dead from partying last night, lol. That and i wanna go frisbee golfing.....ugh, guess its time to get moving
  17. Seeing as i know I'm not maintaining 14.4v with stock electrical, well assume 12v, 12v*60A=720watts....thats watts law for you. IIRC, impedance has nothing to do with this side of watts law. But, now, this is all going off shit i haven't looked up in years...amps are more efficient at higher loads (draw less power that they convert into heat rather than output voltage). Even though we know its not 100% efficient, and i know I'm not dropping all the way down to 12v, i think its safe to say yes, it makes the 700 i said. P=V*I and 720=12*60. Resistance doesn't come into play in watts law. Some amps can make the same output at different resistances, depends on the amp design, i know mine isn't that fancy, its a POS, it was cheap, so i grabbed it. But i can say this, i know what its putting out, set the gains using P=V^2/R, and didn't allow for clipping. I know it isn't making rated power, but you're really underestimating my amp. Now can we get off the trash my shitty kenwood game and get on topic??
  18. it puts out about 700 at 2 ohms in reality. And yes, the subs can handle the power, I'm under powering them currently. Used to have a real old RF T1000 on the pair when they were in my blazer. thats what i was thinking, its nice out, i may pull the back seat and check voltages and pull the fuses out of my amp and check them. But it sounds like its going into protect over and over again, which means its time to replace it.
  19. Ive had a Kenwood 9104D since early 2009 in my daily driver seeing a 2 ohm load. Yesterday morning on the drive to work, it worked just fine. On my way home, it quit, kind of. It works as long as i don't push it at all. I have a CDA-9887 and if i go past 20 ill get 1 good solid hit then it cuts out for a few seconds then comes back for another good hit and keeps doing this. I can only assume that means my amp is toast yes? Anyone got any good cheap replacement recommendations, looking for 800-1200w RMS at 2 ohms. Currently in school about 40hrs a week, so i only get to work 4-8 hrs a week, so money is really tight. Was hoping to save this money and put it towards some studio monitors, but i can't stand not having subs. And monitors and acoustic treatment for a room costs more than an amp anyway, lol. If i can save up I'm thinking of just getting the AQ1200, but id have to change a lot of my lifestyle to save the money up (i know its not much, but when you are at school down town chicago and commute every day, can't bring a lunch cuz theres no fridge, cost of living aint cheap when you can't work). Not opposed to used amps off this board, but would like to go new.
  20. trust me, thats what id like to do best, but i live in an apt, am in college, almost 800mi from home, so....building is just not an option right now unfortunately...trust me, if i lived at home, i wouldnt be on here, id be doing this all my own, and coming for advice on which drivers people who have experience with them prefer, lol. this is far from my first rodeo. As far as an amp, my dad may send me this old amp from the basement that doesnt get used, its either a 4 or 5 ch, decent amount of power per ch IIRC, its his from back in college also, lol, kinda funny cuz now im in college (he was always like me, would rather spend money on something good than just buy budget and skimp and replace it in a year. Amp still works fine too! He offered to send it, so once i have specs i just gotta see what i can do with THAT amp and match it to some speakers...either a pair of bi-amped towers, or 2 towers and a pair of speakers to form a center ch. with the towers going nice and low.... http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=303-422 and http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=303-420 look like some nice towers to me in my budget range, and would probably suit my needs pretty well...
  21. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=303-468 possibly these?
  22. sorry to tripple bump, just got off the phone with my dad, theres a stereo in the basement that NEVER gets used, so hes gunna shoot me the model number and all next time hes down there, give me something to research till class starts...I got NO problems ghetto rigging shit till i can afford good stuff.
  23. this isnt a bad idea, problem is, im going from a 500 watt system...i play games, listen to music, watch movies, fuck my neighbors, ive already approached them and said if its ever too loud just come say so, no need to call the cops.
  24. right now its more about quality over quantity, without giving up too much quantity, lol. The shit i listed is just dream purchases, no way in hell can i afford those while im in college without selling my car or taking out extra on my student loans, and if i were going that far, id buy a pair of CDJs and a nice pioneer mixer too....
  25. ill look at those, currently (if i could afford it) id have a pair of these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/jbl-lsr-2328p-8-bi-amplified-powered-studio-monitor paired with one of these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/jbl-lsr4312sp-12-linear-spatial-reference-powered-subwoofer but thats alot of money i dont have as a college student. Im looking or something with decent power, (my hearing is shit as im sure everyone else on here's is) and i would like to have the dynamic headroom if im messing with reason/ableton)
