  1. I am just too frustrated with ever little thing right now to think straight. i guess i'm lashing out at stupid internet drawings now too lol. what a fun hobby!
  2. Stress with work (getting laid off) & stupid life compunded with the fracking fact I have 2 brand new 12" subs sitting in my god damn bedroom doing nothing. I have a friend with a sort of woodshop (he actively makes things there on occasion) and an easy enough schematic but he's too busy showing his house to help me make the box. I'm just pulling my god damn hair out right now and ready to take my old pvc ported junk plywood box and try and plug the holes or something... i have my new amp hooked up to that box and old speakers and it sounds muddy as shit and loud and grrrrr. I guesss I shouldn't have pulled the ports out (thought I was going to lengthen them). they are just sitting loosely in the holes now. i guess i could seal em, but is that any way to treat new cvr 12's? This just sucks. I'm whoring myself on craiglist right now for a few possible things... I'll probably end up spending money on something I hate. This one looks ok for $25 I think, is that the good old bandbpass style? http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ele/1087890892.html i'm emailing these people asking for cu ft and hz and probably they have no clue what i'm on about. i'm so frustrated, i don't want to lash out and get some crap prefab from best buy, but it would be nice to have it over and done with.
  3. Whatever. I hated physics too. I can't remember this stuff. Last class I took was literally 10 years ago.
  4. I guess I'm just spoiled from reading CAD drawings and other scale drawings. In this case, scale is irrelevant, but this 'artists rendition' has failed to convey to me the information for which it was intended. You can't argue that its successful by virtue of my experience. I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed this.
  5. Its not hard to follow the crutchfield diagram. Not at all. It shows actual speakers and actual wires.
  6. Don't get me wrong, the12volt is great and all, but really? How can someone just 'know' how to wire something based on such a drawing? I think crotchfield is a lot more explicit here. I was ready to cut out a section of my wire's jacket or use nuts or something until I saw it done plainly.
  7. So people are so low on space that the extra displacement gained from shallow mounts makes it worth the trouble and extra $$$? Odd. I did notice the freq response on those things is very pidly.

    Need An Amp

Quick glance on Ebay shows a Hifonics amp that's suspiciously cheap: http://cgi.ebay.com/HIFONICS-BXi-1206D-MON...93%3A1|294%3A50 It says 1 ohm is 1200 rms, but that's probably only like 950 tops (based on what I've heard here). Everything else is either way more expensive or a crappy brand or refurb/used.

    Need An Amp

Wow, what do those take? 800 watts rms or something?
  10. Ok, I'm going to do that tonight. Reading back in this site is helpful too, lots of info about good grounding and keeping those RCA seperated too. I should be ok. Now if I can just figure out how to get the damn brass terminal i bought to tighten up on my battery, I'll be set.
  11. I suppose I should give it the heat test. I haven't noticed it warm at the end going into the amp, but I haven't really grabbed it. I'll do that today @ lunch. Also, it seems the 8 gauge is letting more engine noise into the amp too, but I again, I can't tell if thats me or what. I really want to get rid of that noise.
  12. Sorry if I explained it bad. I'm saying the opposite. 4 gauge no dim, but 8 has dim Sorry, my 'large' is different than other people's large. Its only running at 656w rms (2 ohms) so I'm covered. 80 amp fuse. The specs say min 6 gauge wire, so I'm going already above and beyond. I'm just wondering if I'm crazy or the difference in wire stops dimming somehow.
  13. I thought it was the new amp at first (even though is substantially bigger than any I had before) because i first tested it with the new 4 gauge wire, but now that its running lightly off 8 gauge (until tonight when I redo it) the lights are dimming again. So it appears even with the 8 gauge ground, that just running 4 gauge knu cca is stopping dimming? Is this probably the case?
  14. I can't decide sealed or ported either. Its maddening.
  15. Yeah, its funny. Just hooking up 4 gauge CCA to my new amp seems to stop all dimming vs the 8 gauge rockford copper I had.
  16. woah there padre, 1 thing at a time. Are you sure you really want to use them caps? I've learned here that their application is rarely necessary and usually only for eeking that last bit of stable current for like a competition rig. I'd say sell the caps and look at this: Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have 2 ohm DVC's then it should present a 1 ohm load (which the amp is stable at) otherwise its 2.
  17. Hey, you're talking to someone who took Calculus III in college there buddy..... about 4 times!
  18. People really start out that huge huh? I got freaked out hooking up 656 watts rms last night for the first time. It seemed to want to rattle my whole garage apart. I was all paranoid it was going to be like a beacon drawing in the thugs to my location Odd that it didn't dim the lights though. I guess class D is really that good.
  19. Shallow indeed! Those pioneers look crazy. I'd go with the Kicker Comp CVT myself. Cheap on ebay (but alot more than say CVR): http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-CVT12-12-INCH-2...1713.m153.l1262
  20. I think I do. Back in the day those designs were the talk of the town. I think I'll back off too then. This sounds like a bit of a headache.
  21. Yeah, I would like to know how. A friend suggested you can put 1 at each end and swap polarities so one sucks when one pushes?
  22. lol yeah, me too. I have two twelves to box and have no clue how to do an 'acoustic suspension' or whatever it would take to accommodate both in a tube.
  23. That is sorta what I'm finding out. I just assumed it would be something more loose and fluffy. The kicker manual says to put chicken wire over your ports to prevent it from flying around. I pictured like packing peanuts or something floaty.
