either a piece came loose and shorted out something or something burned and melted off. ill take the amp off you if you dont want to pay a bunch of money to fix it. im trying to learn how to fix amps.

open it up and look for chard marks. rca could have come loose.

also depends on the power. for instance if each sub is getting 1000w i would do the 10"s. but if your just getting one 2k amp to run them all i would do the 12"s.

thats how i build them now too. as long as you have enough clamps, your good.

the screws and brad nails just hold the edges tight together while the glue dries. once its dry, the fasteners dont do much. if you use staples then you need to add pressure before shooting them in, they wont create enough. so you either clamp one side at a time then use the staples or you stand on the box, this obviously only works on a couple places. screws will clamp the 2 pieces together much better and form a stronger bond.

its another path for current. could spread out some heat. though i doubt that would be the cause. either way you need to fix it.

the big hunk of metal that the board sits in lol. everything you see on the outside is a heat sink.

too much heat. maybe a + wire hit the heat sink? just a guess.

only thing that could be is a ground. if you want to fix it, just throw some solder across the gap. or use wire. just complete the circuit.

no one is saying any product is bad. but there is always something better. isnt that the sole point of this forum? to learn about products and builds and what makes you louder? i mean, we all know not to spend a shit ton of money on a JL W7 because we can get the same quality cheaper. that was useful info for everyone.

well we all know some subs get louder than others. otherwise we would all be running cheap stuff. some subs are more efficient even at this high level. a split 4" coil is very heavy and not very efficient so the test results dont surprise me. the only test i know of was done by a great competitor, not just some guy that "thought" he knew what he was doing. it wasnt a difference of a few DB of course, but every tenth helps. feel free to not believe me. i realize it is just hearsay and i cant give the exact, needed, details of the test or even give proof that it happened. but i do see tons of people talking about the SMD like it was a sub forged by the gods. they have no testing results... no one seems to question it...

last i talked with him about it, he was looking for a good build house. that was a while ago though and i wouldnt be surprised if he is just focusing on making subs at the moment.
