  1. So I got an 18" Fi Q a little while ago and it's in a 7cuft. box facing up, port back. The box takes up pretty much my whole trunk and it is above the rear windown line. Now, I don't want people to be able to look in and see it. Right now I just have a blanket draped over it, and I just leave it there. I don't know if that's bad for the sub to be playing with a blanket on top, but it seems to be fine... I don't want to tint my windows either because A. This is my dad's car B. it would cost more then what I want to do and C. I may get a new car in the spring. So I want to know if anyone here has done this for their sub and how they anchored it to their box. I sort of want it to be easily removable, but if it's easier to just screw it down or whatever, then I can deal with it. I was planning on just using some random black fabric my mom had lying around. I don't think it matters too much about the material, right? I think the material really only affects high frequency notes. So if you can come up with any ideas on how to do this, that would be cool. It's mostly the problem mounting it. I know steve used neodymium magnets on the grills for chicken's towers, but I don't really want to spend much (if any) money if I don't have to. I'd like to see what I can do with what I have. The only idea that I could come up with that would probably work well would be to just use some metal L brackets to attach it to the sides of the box.
  2. I think it took about 2-3 weeks (which was like 12 or so business days) for me to get my 18" Q. I know it was right around the max they quote for ordering a sub, so that didn't really bother me. What did bother me was the box it was shipped in. It's just a single layer corrugated box with a few pieces of foam for cushion. My sub ended up somehow busting a 6-8" V shaped slit on the side so about an inch or two of the sub was hanging out. I think it only busted through the side because one side of the cardboard supports that hold the magnet in the center of the box broke. The sub was fine though, just like a little scratch on the top or side of the rubber gasket.
  3. You read the carfax for it? Really crazy how it has all that info on the car. 3 owners. 1st was a lease in mass, but was repo'd, then sold in an auction (prolly to a dealer first) to someone in NY, then to someone in PA. Also shows what was replaced and stuff.
  4. I've been looking at this one. I think I'll prolly get it, just want to do some more research. The things that I like about it is that it seems really flexible with sound processing (crossovers, eq, time alignment, etc.)
  5. I got an 18" Q recently. I like it a lot. Get it. Plus, 18's are just more impressive looking and sounding, and by sounding I mean like "Yo dude, how many subs you got?" "Just one, it's an 18"
  6. Mossy Oak is a camo pattern. Kinda dark. Lots of shadows. I like Advantage or Realtree better.
  7. I don't think the OP would really need a SSD. He doesn't seem like he is really in the market for performance computing. I think a regular disk HD would work fine for him. I know one thing that I dislike about the laptop I bought is the touch pad. I didn't try before I bought, and I sort of regret it (although I did get an excellent deal on it, so I can forgive myself). But I would go and try a bunch at best buy or something and find one you like the feel of. Then check out sites like newegg or tiger direct for the best price. Sites like that will usually have a bunch of the same model of laptop, but with different components inside. So if you like the look and feel of one at best buy, but the price and features inside aren't there, you can probably find what you want online.
  8. He means the url on your sticker dcsoundlabS.com Should not be an S
  9. They seem like a great company just from reading their site. I love the way it's written. I wish I would have looked at them before buying my new system.
  10. A lot of manufacturers recommend smaller enclosures for their subs to help prevent people who don't know what they are doing from blowing their subs. Typically, subs can handle more power in smaller enclosures, and less in larger. So that means it's much easier to overpower and blow a sub in a bigger enclosure. It's just to save their ass. Also why they recommend 500 watts rms while they can really take a good amount over that.
  11. You could always just add another CVX if you're happy with the sq and everything. You have the power. Aren't they like 600rms? I'm assuming yours is dual 4 ohm. You could wire them both in parallel to get 1 ohm and get 1600wrms out of ur amp.
  12. How bout a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. I dunno if money is an issue, but they can be pretty cheap for an older one. The I6 engine in the older models (I think like 97 and earlier) run forever. I have mine nearing 200,000 miles with virtually no problems with the engine (only things you would expect from a 14+ year old car). They just don't make great power stock. Anyways, I have a single 18 in there, and if you take out the spare wheel that's back there, you could definitely fit two of em easily. I also have my amps mounted under my back seats, but the amps are pretty small, so I dunno how yours would fit.
  13. Maybe air leaking on the inside port wall? I always run a bead of caulk around all the inside edges I can reach, and sometimes on the outside of the box if I need to. I always forget to seal the gaps of the port's outer wall before I screw/glue the inner wall of the port down... but yea, just see if sealing up the box better helps.
  14. Another thing I noticed with his amp after-wards was that the shop that installed his amp used 8awg wire rather then the 4 it was supposed to have. Mine and my other friends all had 4awg power and ground wire. I don't really know what too small of power and ground wire will do to an amp, but that's really the only difference I noticed between his setup and mine.
  15. Maybe it was a bad amp. My friend was running a 2 channel Hifonics that put out 600 watts rms bridged at 4 ohms to a type r in a sealed box. I was running the same set up, as were like 2 other of my friends, and ours all ran fine, but my friends amp seemed to be putting out either way too much power or something else. He ended up blowing 3 type r's and after the last time, the amp caught on fire. I'm sticking with it was a bad amp. The kid was also a retard so he could have done something dumb, but I think it was actually a faulty amp the whole time.
