Help me choose between two amps right now!
Explosivesound replied to Explosivesound's topic in Amplifiers
I dont know if it matters but the earthquake has 3 25 amp fuses and the memphis has 4 40amp fuses? -
I can get either a Earthquake PH2000/D1 or a Memphis 16-PRD1000.1 right now for a heck of a price. They are both 1000watts rms @1 ohm which is how I would be running it. Which one is better?

I dont know specifically but Ive heard they are very similar to the T3 TSNS

How thick MDF for 18" sub
Explosivesound replied to Explosivesound's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
I would if I had more money but I already have the MDF and I just finished body work and need to get paint. I will remake the box in the future as Im getting a second 18. I think then I will go with the birch! -
How thick MDF for 18" sub
Explosivesound replied to Explosivesound's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
I guess ill go ahead and do the 1.5 with 2.25 baffle and run a brace from front to back and top to bottom! 140db @29hz. from 1 12 is amazing! I would be happy to do that with my 18 APX! Thats what, equal to 2 12's and its the next model up! Maybe Ill get better numbers than I thought I would. My one downside is I have a 4 door. Sub enclosure will take up 90% of my back seat but I have a feeling those four doors are going to leak a lot of air! -
How thick MDF for 18" sub
Explosivesound replied to Explosivesound's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
The other thing I like about the 3" is my enclosure size. Its almost a wall in my backseat If I go with that but if I go 1.5 the enclosure is quite a bit smaller. I figure if I go bigger thats less cabin space! Not too mention its just about unstealable! -
Just about finished on all my body work. Getting ready to have my car painted now. What paint should I use? House of Kolor, Dupont, or PPG? This was my first time doing body work but my uncle whos worked at a collision center for about 20 years came behind me to make sure everything was perfect. After all the work thats been put in (there was a LOT!) I want to use a quality paint. Ive had one car custom painted with Dupont Chromabase, but I have no knowledge in paint brands. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks! Oh, it will be a urethane basecoat/clearcoat!

How thick MDF for 18" sub

the 3"? -
Im building my sub box but I dont know how thick to make the enclosure. Sub is 18" Atomic APX. Will be 6cubes net @32hz. How thick should the box be. I was thinking 1.50 all around and a 2.25 baffle. But I can go 3" all around if need be. Although it will be awhile before I run the reccommended 5000rms in the meantime Ill be running about 3000rms. I was told by another guy his AP(one step lower than the APX)12 Was still flexing his box with the 1.50. I will not be glassing the inside of the box so should I go 3 all around?

Really depends on your taste! My wife and I just got back from our anniversary there. We stayed at Mandalay and it was amazing! If you are into thrill rides youll want to go to the top of the stratosphere, the rides are a 1000ft. above ground. And the New York, New York has a great roller coaster. Speed the ride at Sahara is fun but not extreme. For free show the sirens at TI (treasure island) is pretty good. Cant miss the water show outside of the Bellagio! Food is good at any of the South end Casinos. See a show while your there. Any of the Cirque Du Soleil show are amazing though I prefer Ka and O. See a comedian if youre into that. The biggist thing is to PLAN what you really want. There are so many things and shows its impossible to see everything. And if you dont plan what you really want to see theres a good chance you wont see it! Where are you staying at? -
Enclosure help Please so I can get building!
Explosivesound replied to Explosivesound's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
Well Ive got 50" in width 25" in height and 20" in depth to work with. I just need the box to be 6 cubes after sub and port. with their port recc. 10" long x 40sq. in. Atomic says that is the only optimal port. I dont know why but the specifically said, dont listen to what anyone says build it to our specs. Problem for me is the port. How do I figure out 40sq. in. x 10" long. Do I just do 8"tall "5"wide and 10" long/deep since 8x5=40? -

Enclosure help Please so I can get building!
Explosivesound replied to Explosivesound's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
I have the 18 D2. Atomic told me specifically dont listen to what anyone says, do exactly as they say. Problem is I cant figure out what that is. So I need 6 cubes net with a port 40 sq. in. 10" long? I dont see how that is hard fact. Wouldnt the port size change depending on the box dimensions? -
Ive been told through another post I need to stick to Atomics enclosure reccommendation to get the most out of my APX 18 the enclosure info says sub and port displacement is already figured in their equation which is APX18-ported 6.0ft3 (40six10”long) ( 32Hz)=5000w (SB) So do I figure 6 cubes as if it was sealed then do the port to fit their req.? and I dont know how to read thier port rec. I see a 10" long port, 6" wide, but whats the 40. or is it 6" in height? Please help so I can get this box built! Or if someone wants to give me an easy out and tell me exact outside measurements (.75 MDF.) I have up to 50" in width, 25" in height and 19" depth. Thanks guys!!!

Atomic was real cool when I spoke with them, best coustomer service Ive ever come across! They said recone $100 but after I told them all the crap Im dealing with they said to call them Monday and they will "take care of it." I would prefer to have the APXX with 4" coil but Yes Ive heard the APX is a monster. They said put it in a 6^3 net box tuned to 32hz. and put 5000rms to it. Thats pretty insane!!! So I guess in the end one way or another this will work out but nobody should have to go through all this B.S!
