  1. Look's like im going to settle and get those t162 components. Before I buy was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions. Budget is around 150 a set, being those RF's are that. I plan on running 100w RMS to each speakers. The size in my car are 6 3/4 but should have no trouble getting 6.5's in aslong as the mounting depth is big enough. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_19564_...r+T1652-S.html# But based on looks, I think these are superior. Not sure if there's much difference, just checked out the cone materials and RMS http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3144_R...ower+T162S.html
  2. So far I'm enjoyin this head unit, had almost everything I wanted and wasn't expensive, I know i coulda got the same features for less on a pioneer but I wanted to try some diff brands. It was between the kenwood x693 and the alpine 9886, the thing that made my option was that id have to buy adapter for the 9886 such as for the aux input and then an extension for the usb. The kenwood I only have to get an aux extension so i saved almost 100$. I had much better SQ even with my stock speakers but i knew that would happen either way. I have yet to mess around with the Eqs too much besides basic ones, ill let ya know how that goes aswell.
  3. Not trying to thread jack but didn't want to make a new thread for a related question. My wire from alternator to battery positive is 8 gauge stock. Would that be good enough for around 2k rms set up or should i just 1/0 it and never have to worry about it again? Right now I don't have the budget to buy things that are not completely necessary but I refuse to half ass anything since I love my SUV and system, and would like them to love me back.
  4. Gonna try the Kenwood Excelon x693, I've read alot that I like but if it's not what it seems itll get returned.
  5. I'm going for Software/Computer engineering at PSU, I can relate to the chemistry. I hated it but I passed and never have to take it again. I've debated a lot of options from changing majors to dropping out and going to a tech school to be a mechanic Just look around and you will figure out what you want in time. It's best to get your basic classes out of the way like said above. Aslong as you decide on some degree you will be happy you got the bs classes out of the way
  6. I've had basically all my questions answered. Just looking for someone who has these head units and can tell me a little bit about them. There really isn't a local audio shop where I'm from, probably 40-45 mins away.
  7. Narrowed it down to these 3 on crutchfield. Going to see if any other sites have any other models. What you guys think? Gave up a little, this 9886 is growin on me more n more everyday. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Com...s=01|500CDA9886
  8. That does help alot. Now what about this pico fuse? Just dont mess with the rcas while it's powered on? That the only complaints with Pioneers? I love pioneer from what i've experienced. I've never had an Alpine hu so was thinkin about trying that out.
  9. Well I need 6.5 for all 4 of mine so that may be the way I go? Are they around 100w rms? was planning on giving them around that.
  10. Kenwoods I Dont have any experience with kenwood head units but heres a couple i liked. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDCX693/Ke...tures_and_specs http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113HD942U/Ken...tures_and_specs The 9886. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500CDA9886/Al...86.html?tp=5684
  11. It'll be the first box I ever self make so let's hope it works out. I just need dimensions, ill try and go with the ones off the RF site and see what it sounds like, going to build this tomorrow after work
  12. Do these look like the ones he has? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3144_R...ower+T162S.html
  13. Ya, going to rip them apart and use whatever and see if i can make a suitable ten box. It doesnt have to be the best box, just putting the wood to use.
  14. Well this isn't a box to actually put in my suv. Just like.. hey i got some board layin around why not use it for somethin. I kno itll be small but just wanted to see how big of dimensions i'd need. Can go sealed if not enough room. Just kind of practice. I have 12s in my car ..jus have a ten sittin around.. it's an RF p1 ten.
  15. Sorry maybe i was a little unclear. I have 2 of these boxes already I found them in my basement from years ago. I'm going to combine the 2 and make a single 10 enclosure just to practice building boxes since I never have before. I'm asking what are good dimensions for a sealed and ported box so I can see if I have enough.. I got numbers off of the RF site, but don't know how big to make the port.
  16. I don't mind at all, basically waitin for the same answers. After constantly looking, Ill jus end up going with a single usb drive. On the 9886 how long of a cable do you get? Is it far enough to run into the glove box?
  17. I didn't even consider JVC originally maybe I will have to. I mean I dont have to have 2 usb ports. 2 on the back would be nice so I can just run them into the glove box or something. The Alpine 9886 vs that JVC? Also, anyone have an experience with pioneers that you could hear the noise? How noticable is it?
  18. I love how the 9886 looks. Just noticed that sonics has it advertised at 4v preouts but when you click spec it says 2. But crutchfield says 4v so ill go with that And those 2 links do not have front aux. Maybe I'm being a little too picky but for the moment I want to see if there is one exactly like I want. I've been searchin Here's a couple others that are close http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17768_...H-P5100UB.html# http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17693_...EH-P510UB.html# Not much difference between those.
  19. They exist. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17693_...DEH-P510UB.html Only thing stoppin me from Pioneer is i hear they pick up noise issues and cannot find a post about it with details.
  20. Been finding head units very close to this but here's exactly what I want, not sure if theres a model out with all features. Been through pioneers, alpine, lanzars, kenwood, eclipse, even pyle. *Single Din, Color Blue or White *CD, MP3, AAC, Cd-R, CD-Rw readable *3 preamps 4v+ *18-20 rms(until i get amp for it) *Front Aux *Dual Rear USB ports unless theres a way to split a single one. If not then this can be just one rear usb. *Ipod, Bluetooth, HD radio capable. I found a kenwood that is close but mostly pioneer seems to be the ones i want. Alpine 9886 is very close aswell. Let me know if you guys find anything. Not sure of all the sites out there and I'm a little iffy about ebay.
  21. I was going through my basement and found 2x 6x9 enclosures from wal mart. I rem my first car didnt have any back speakers so this was the way I did it. Well now I have a ten layin around and was going to see how much I would need to make a small enclosure out of this. I may not have enough but hell why not. Maybe both enclosures combined will give enough. What you guys think. This is just for something to do. Here's the link. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...uct_id=11979943 Thinkin 13.125 H x 17 x 15.75 would work since I got them off the RF site. But they have it vented. How much could i make. This will be my first box ever self made. It should be good practice.
  22. If anything it'd be the power but the thing was it would dim the lights but the volt meter wouldnt drop below 12. A little off topic but was wondering a kind of guesstimate on what the db's of 2x 12s @ 400w rms would be. I know there's alot of factors, but say in a correctly built ported box for the subs. Would it even break 100dbs? Lol. Just kind of thought of it. Maybe it a stupid question but am curious since it most likely won't ever get metered.
  23. So we put 2x12s in his truck to see if they would fit and it looks like they should no problem. So now he wants 2x 12s to run at around 300-400w rms. I can see he will get addicted to it quickly but doesnt have the money to upgrade much. His lights were dimming like crazy on a little 400w rms audiobahn amp. Most likely gonna drop the rms to 300 until he can do big3 and upgrade electrical. Another question. His battery terminals has side terminal with bolt that dont allow anything to really be attached. Whats the best way to fix this without changing much. If there is a way. Never had to deal with a battery with side terminals
