  1. mainly media, blu ray movies, songs etc...i only have 500gb in my other pc so i had stopped downloading shit. the movies, if those get lost i wouldnt mind as much, but music that ive been downloading for yrs, id hate for it to be lost
  2. i agree they are reliable, and i personally think that during the event of a URE when rebuilding (if i ever have to rebuild, ive NEVER has a western digital caviar black drive fail on me) i would think that instead of the raid failing or all the data being lost, it would result in that file that its trying to read being corrupt on the new replacement drive. i also think that since its only "reading" the data off the non failed drives, even if a URE occurs, shouldnt the data on the non failed drives stay? i mean if a URE happens when ur not rebuliding raid, say ur opening a song and it happens to be that 12th tb of data being read....shouldnt they stay intact, and u can just restart the rebuild of the array? thats my logic of it at least. i agree to a point, but ive seen more of the 1.5tb drives fail, mostly the seagate ones (my friend has a bunch, and they're all crap)
  3. i did mention in that in my build thread, but i hadent read this article at that time, and plus my board i ended up with only does 0, 1, 0+1, and 5. not worth buying a card that does raid 6 either way IMO.
  4. i want fault tolerance with that in mind, i am thinking of running 4 of my 6 drives in raid 0+1, speed and fault tolerance, i can loose 2 drives (from the same set, not one from each array) and still able to rebuild. but with that, out of 4 1tb drives i get 2tb of storage., plus the other 2 stand alone drives id have left over, so overall in raid 0+1 id have 4tb total space with raid 5 id have have 5tb of storage. idk which way i wanna go yet.
  5. so the computer i recently built, i was going to run raid 5. i probably still will run it, but this article has me thinking. it makes sense i guess, but at the same time, wouldnt you think it would just result in a corrupt file if that URE occurs during the rebuild? http://blogs.zdnet.com/storage/?p=162&tag=trunk;content heres some interesting comments posted about the whole situation. http://talkback.zdnet.com/5206-12694-0.htm...ag=col1;tbTools discuss...

  7. i have a desktop i built a few yrs ago, i was thinking of setting up a little server at the house, and if i do that, i might just take out like 4 of the 1TB drives of my i7 pc i just built and use them in this box for the server. i wanna set up an FTP server. i also wanna set up server 2003 and having roaming profiles and things like that just to do it lol but anyways its a 500w rosewill psu in my old desktop and the hardware i currently have in it is: 4x 1GB ddr2 8600GT amd athlon 64 x2 180gb hdd few fans u think the 500w psu will be good for 4 1TB drives running 24x7? (cavier black wester digital)

  11. lol. its all good if the auto sync option ISNT checked off, you should be able to safely plug in your ipod without it syncing all the songs in ur library to the ipod (in this case nothing) theres actually a program that you can rip music OFF of ur ipod..cant do it itunes, but i forgot what the program was called that lets you do that.....theres lots out there just google it, but there was one i used and liked but i cant remember the name for the life of me....
  12. in itunes theres an option to auto sync with ur library, and if the library is empty, which it prally is since u just reinstalled the OS, it did just that, it auto synced your empty library lol. uncheck that option before plugging in ur other ipod
  13. well i ordered my 920 last night so im not changing now haha
  14. ah, so even though it 20 bux more, its only dual channel, but its 2.8ghz clock speed vs the 2.66 on the 920, so all in all the 920 is the better one?
  15. whats the difference in the i7 920 vs the i7 860 (20 bux more) i was just looking on newegg and i saw it. i already ordered the 920 so it doesnt matter, im just curious
  16. that would make a nice PC, but in a car, to be honest im fine with what i bought. its not in the car yet, but im posting from it right now. its an Asus EEE box (b202 model) cost 300 bux. the samsung 10.4" touchscreen lcd i got was 200 so 500 total (minus the inverter when i find one) but its an intel atom 1.6 cpu, same thing thats in most of the netbooks on the market today. came with 1gb ram, i upgraded to 2gb. came with some wack basic version of linux, i put xp on it, and it runs really good. plenty fast for anything youd need to run in a car. think about it, all your gonna be running is music/movies.
  17. yes they are, but he has 2 sets. if he uses a single 125.2, and he wires the drivers side (front and rear door) in parallel to the left channel, thatll make 2 ohm on the amp. same with the passenger side, wired to the right channel. i think they do, ill double check next time you come over.
  18. just use one. they do over 200 x 2 @ 2 ohms, so each door would get at LEAST 100w, prally more like 125 per door, which is plenty.
  19. the doors ive tried deadening and nothing helps, im thinking about just welding something inside to brace it lol
  20. ive never had an issue with vista on my machines even running 1gb ram, after i edit startup and things how i want it, not how windows wants it lol i forgot to mention the services as the other guy said...check "hide all microsoft services" and disable them all and restart and just see how it runs. if its alot better, go back in and turn on just the services you need.
