  1. Thanks guys. Taking a look at everything I might just do the big 3 with a good xs battery from mechman. As the srt4 alts seem to be somewhat descent. Couple questions. What's a direct replacement battery for an 05 srt4? 1200, 1400? ( dont flame me for this one , haha ) when your bolting your new wires to the chassis, I see using dielectric grease is pretty common. But once its all bolted down , can you spray a plastidip, or rubberized coating over it to further prevent any issues , and completely seal it upon top, and underneath?
  2. Thank you sir!... yea, its just an aq1200d, but seeing as how the car will be raced, i just didnt want too small of a battery/alt combo .. If I put the battery in the trunk it will be a pita and cause a issue at the track.. Im sure mechman has big 3 diagrams for the wiring on my car, and I would love to see it as electronics is not my specialty lol
  3. max current draw will probably be 150 amps.. Looking at what I need to do/swap.. Looking for a battery as well .. Current amp is a Soundqubed/AQ 1200d I bought a year ago.. Sub is to be decided
  4. sub is amazing, I cant help but to add another.... amp seems to be holding voltage around 14, which puts be at a descent power setup... 2 sa-8s @ 1000 rms off a aq1200d .. This sub is noting less than amazing , and even tho I'm behind the times seeing as the v3 is on its way out.. I just want to thank Sundown for all the amazing mini subs over the years!
  5. Got all the pieces cut for the box above this post. Only thing of concern is the depth of the sub... the depth of the box is only 7 inches. The mounting depth of the sub is 6 5/8... which only leaves about 1/2 between the back of the box and the magnet.. is that OK, or should I add a second baffle to raise it up another 3/4"?
  6. Can you take a quick look at this enclosure design/. Its going in a trans am and am limited with space http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/191577-need-2-sa-8s-for-01-trans-am-questions-and-enclosure-options/

  7. here is the one I came up with. How does this one look? and would there be any issue with sub up port back?
  8. Well. After trying different enclosure sizes sub up port up isn't gonna work. But sub up port back should be good. 14" of port area, 15" per foot, tuned to 36.6 .. port ratio is 1:3.5
  9. Gotcha! Thanks man. I'm excited to get this little guy. Should be here on Thursday, so I still have time to kick things around a bit with the enclosure.
  10. OK.. Im trying to get the size down a bit without making the ratio worse or the port area much larger. What did you mean "what am I going to do"? As far as music selection? Here s the current design.. should be .76 cubic feet after sub displacement
  11. Yea I have no room to do aeros, from what I can see, so slot port it is.. The problem is, when I plot out the box with the Torres tuning calculator, my port ratio is 1:7.67, which seems high? port area is 17.25, port area per foot is 17.08. and thats exactly .95 cubic feet net after sub displacement.. Is that to big of an enclosure?
  12. Thanks man. Should be a fun lil project. Makes it tough wanting everything hidden tho , really limits my space. I don't want anything crazy. But once I get the first one in there. I'm sure I'll want another. Can't wait to see his this little guy sounds in there. For now I'll be pushing it with my aq1200d at 2 ohm.. so should be around 700 RMS or so after voltage drop and rise
  13. I am building the box. But I want the cubby area open so I can mount the amp down there. Then I'm just going to put the box on top of the 2 side humps. And I want it lower than the top of the gas tank... I'm sure I could make a 4 cube enclosure but I want it all hidden. Behind the carpeted flap... Hope that all made sense lol
  14. Thanks. Actually its just going to be one sa-8 for now. So .75 net tuned to 35. What numbers should I have for the 3 areas I listed above? I remember 16-18 cubic inches of port per cubic foot of box?
  15. If someone has a minute could you work with these dimentions.. 9" H - 36" L - 13" D Thats the max area I have in the back to work with. Im using the torres calculator, but cant remember where my numbers need to be for these 3 specs Port area Port area per foot Port ratio
  16. Been a long time since I've actually bought car audio, and there seems to be alot more options than I'm used to. I have an AQ1200d and am finally getting to throwing subs in the trans am. I have a DC lvl 3 , but with the weird Hatch area on the trans am, nothing seems like it will work right, while still being hidden below the tank. I can get about 2.2 cubic feet or so of enclosure, minus sub and port displacement, so hoping to have about 1.3 net area.. but will need to know if I should go slot port or aero? Where to buy:.... I know for the regulars this is a easy question.. But I just want to keep supporting the vendors,
  17. thanks guys.. Ill toss this together tonight, hopefully get it back in tomorrow AM
  18. Yea I might be surprised as well!! Just not expecting much.. Just a temp box til I can get a recone done.. I would actually like a single lvl 3 or 4 15... Just something that sounds clean and plays the lows well.. But thats for another day.. On to this.. Will a little larger sealed enclosure be OK for this on 700 or so rms? I keep reading alot of ppl are going with slightly larger than suggested sealed enclosures , but they dont state why or what the benefits are
  19. This is just going to be a simple test box.. I was having a few issues with one of the coils on my other lvl 3 and am just going to take it out for now, because its making the whole system sound like crap.. I know they perform better in ported, but my current box is around 3 cf net, which isnt going to work either.. So If I do a simple 15x15x15 sealed just for the time being I will have 1.26 cf net after displacement.. @ 2 ohms my AQ1200 claims 870 @ 14 volts, so Im guessing it will Be around 700rms "real world"? Ive never build a sealed box so never really cared, but how does bigger ( say 1.5 cf ) vs smaller ( .75 ) affect the sound as opposed to the manufacturers "suggestion" of 1.0 cf?
  20. Great man , thanks for the info. I think for now I might just pull the bad sub and build a nice sized single enclosure. Lots of good info in here for me to build off of now. Thinking about 2 cubes net 16-18 in port/foot. Tuned to 32-34?
