  1. I fired it up a little this morning - the glue needs a tad more time to cure, though. I will let it cure until Saturday before really loading it down.
  2. Indeed, the LVL-5 is a huge mofo as well! Big woofers FTW!
  3. Extra treatment from the spider manufacturer. These spiders are very consistent over time, same kind I use on the Nightshade
  4. Few more tricks in this driver - there are five kinds of glue that I used to build this. Testing out some of my new ideas on assembly for high power. Three kinds of black CA for various jobs, one flexible glue for surround the basket joint, and clear epoxy to fill in the lip around the spider / around the dust cap when that is applied. Biggest thing I'm trying to determine on the glue front is if using the three different varieties of CA pays off - so I'm going to beat this thing to death and see if I can make the glue joints give out before anything else. I want to be sure it pays off before building production drivers this way since the two "non standard" CA glues cost 5x more for some odd reason.
  5. I've got the coil lined up w/ a stack of printer paper - I use that to center the stiffening disc since it sticks out, then stack tape up so I have something solid (not paper) to apply weight to. Started out with an MT motor until I filled around the lip with epoxy and let that cure - then I switched to the lighter motor for overnight curing of the CA and my special surround glue.
  6. Thats because it isn't the dust cap It's the stiffening disc that goes behind the dust cap. *edit* I think you may be joking about my pile of tape and sub motor *laughs* If so, yes, that would be a weird dust cap.
  7. * My pretty triple joint and re-enforced epoxy spider landing (filled in the lip with epoxy) * The top - I wish I remembered to take a picture of the top triple joint, it is sexy
  8. Squeezed in a little time this evening to get it mostly built up - provided I didn't mess anything up I can at least break it in and measure specs w/ 5 spiders tomorrow. I went ahead and built the hardest spider pack I plan to make for abuse testing (3 hard and 2 medium - this is harder than 4 hard w/ my spiders). I'll test softer spider packs later.
  9. I'm looking at the CXT motor now and I see very little similarity besides both motors being quite large. 1) The CXT is a 4" coil, this is a 3" coil 2) The CXT has a huge pole vent, this has a small pole vent 3) The CXT doesn't have gap vents, this does I'm sure there are plenty more, but I can tell that just looking at their intro page Rest assure this motor is a design that I have concocted on my own - it is not a motor from another company.
  10. Will keep you guys updated - I have a few paying customer jobs to do first before I can test it out
  11. Let us know if you do some metering
  12. The difference from old style to new style as follows: 1) New, thicker heatsink 2) Upgraded from 50-amp to 70-amp transistors DB-R does not have very many of these, so if you are interested act soon

  16. It is back and magnetized - hopefully will get it built and some testing done within a week!
  17. "This" is more correct since there is only one right now - I'm testing some ideas with it. I expect that I will change at least a few things about it before customers get their hands on it.
  18. I got it in the other day - I sent it off to be magnetized: We'll see how it does and go from there. I may end up making changes before final production based on my test results, we'll just have to see

  20. The FETs are under the board.
  21. It's going to be fun to test, I'm pretty anxious to see how it does - this is the first prototype say may not fully represent what I come up with in the end
  22. My software predicts 91.4 pounds for the motor without basket. It is always +/- a bit, but I'll be sure to weigh it when it comes in. I also need to get it magnetized in the states as I don't have my own machine yet I am looking into acquiring one as the build house isn't capable to charging these magnets to 100% capacity.
