  1. Depth will be about the same as the Nightshades - these have a slightly shorter / wider magnet stack but thicker top and back plates.
  2. Um... no. Atomic isn't the only one using gap vents and they have nothing to do w/ this design.
  3. Nah, it just has a really thick top plate and back plate - there isn't any XBL^2 going on inside.
  4. Pioneer uses a system like that - I question how linear the Cms is without some serious R&D like Pioneer has in it. IMO, a 6" coil on a 12" sub just isn't useful (without a depth constraint) - by the time you have that much power handling on it you either have a suspension that is too tight and you are wasting most of the power and/or you have ran out of excursion anyway with a softer suspension. Now, for a shallow driver a wide coil is fairly useful to get more surface area from a tiny winding height - but they don't have much excursion anyway - eg: the JL shallow driver and the Morel Ultimo (5.1"). IMO anyway
  5. We'll see I am testing some cooling tricks - I'll keep the forums posted when I get some power results.
  6. *laughs* The coil is actually aluminum - just looks copper w/ the enamel. I am thinking about offering a copper coil, though, for a low-end monster sub - the mass of the copper would take the Fs down REALLY low.
  7. Acoupower is making 15" and 18" drivers with 6" coils and an internal neo motor. They are SQ drivers, though The BL^2 / Re is under 100 so they wouldn't make a good burp sub. The biggest problem with a 12" driver and a coil that big is that your spider becomes really small.
  8. Thats actually "just" a HUGE 3" coil. I am testing some cooling methods in this motor so it should do nicely If my goals aren't met with the 3" then the next step will be to prototype a 4" coil motor. I am optimistic for this driver and the 3" coil, though!
  9. This is the standard coil I'm testing with it:
  10. I'm anxious to test it out - I have something fun I'm testing with this motor, which is why I'm not showing the other side of the motor yet.
  11. 10" diameter slugs, triple stacked. The pole flare is a bit shallower and narrower than I wanted... but we'll see how it does with testing. I have the coils, spiders, cones, etc waiting for it here! Picture is from the factory, it's on the way to me soon Not showing the other side of the motor yet, sorry guys! And before anyone asks... no ETA on production, I still haven't tested this prototype yet!
  12. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=19472 * Quite a few pictures over there from the show. I came out for the day but don't have anything to compete with at the moment
  13. Yep, same install I didn't see it on the other section.
  14. POSTED BY "SUNDOWN/FI BEATIN" on my *** FORUM: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=19306 Two Nightshade 12s and 3000-watts total. ----- "ok guys today we were testing.. on my first burb i did a 148.5 and my sun roof broke.. "
  15. I am fresh out of them at the moment, sadly!
  16. I had drawn up a plan to do 128 of them in my (former) SPL truck. I have since sold it so that was never to be.
  17. That was Loyd Lowry's wall - it was REALLY loud. Heard it in person The duct tape gained a few tenths, believe it or not - but the wall was build really well with very heavy bracing. That wall made me like 8s
  18. Chuck Norris can stop a black hole... so we are safe as long as he is around. But yes, I agree with Mick here - this type of research is important, the general public just doesn't tend to understand it
  19. Yessir! They don't need more than 200 watts, especially ported, it'll be sick.
  20. Thermally, yes. Mechanically, at low frequencies, it becomes a problem with breaking the driver physically - strong motor can yank the spiders loose from the basket.
  21. These are true sub-woofers - in a small vented box of 0.6 tuned to 35 Hz you get an F3 of 28 Hz Now, the hard part... will be wiring these bad boys up!
  22. Haha, cool PS: Did you ever get my e-mail w/ the dealer sheet ?
  23. Back to page one Everything but the RF amp is still for sale.
