  1. As the title states. I will be on an actual vacation for the first time in ~6 years or so. The rest of the crew will still be here at the shop holding down the fort. You can still reach Brandon and Debbie as you normally would. Some things may be delayed a bit that require my attention but most things will get done no problem.
  2. We have a second set running power test cycles at the factory. They already passed 100-watts RMS per side for 8 hours -- yesterday we ran them up to 125-watts RMS for 8 hours as well. Will continue to run more cycles on them until failure and rate them around that level
  3. The SA line will NOT get these frames -- there is no need for it and it would cost too much. --- Also, as I mentioned originally the photos are from my basket manufacturer -- once they arrive here we'll get photos next to and connected to motors, etc for a good view of the scale.
  4. Not sure if I understand the question exactly -- the chromed plates are solid steel back and top plates. The back plate has a very deep bump in it for additional excursion capacity so it's very thick. The "motor" of a woofer is both the steel and the magnet together.
  5. Got the prototypes in -- I won't be able to test for a bit as I'm going on my first real vacation in about 6 years next week... but many they look and feel fantastic. Little bit of free air testing on the mid has us all smiling * It was hard to see in other photos but the "S" surround turned out great. * I am looking into closing off the edges of the x-over as well... still in the works.
  6. Yes, of course it will have some effect -- these have triple the aluminum of a 12-spoke frame so they cost more to make.
  7. I'm not good at keeping secrets... the cut-out in the bottom of the 18" frame will be large enough to pass an entire SA-10/12/15 motor through it. Now what would that be useful for I wonder ?
  8. Nobody from the shop will be there -- maybe some customers but not sure!
  9. The SA-8 v.2 frame was already tooled a while back and im enjoying the hell out of them. thanks again for a great woofer. but how much power will these new subs take. especially the 10 Depends on the woofer we mate them to The 10" frame allows us to use an 8 3/8" spider like we use on Z v.3 15s and the Hi-X 12s now -- this spider has a good bit of capacity in it and we also have the extra stiff NS v.3 compliance. We can make a 10" handle what our 15s do now mechanically... so I'll finally have big 10s that I'm truly happy with !
  10. We'll start using them as soon as we can get all of the corresponding soft parts in stock... likely end of year to January or so.
  11. Haha -- I am sure they will eventually... but it will be alot harder than on most frames Double the thickness in some areas means they will have to try harder. I swear it looks like they throw em at the ground some times. On topic: will these frames bolt up to any of the previous Sundown motors? such as v1 or v2 NS or Z's?? Yes they will bolt right on to any of our 3" coil driver motors! The coil hole is also big enough for a nice 4" coil to fit in there. When we tool our 18" model some time in 2013 it will NOT bolt to any existing motors without an adapter (reasons TBA) -- but we will carry adapters.

  14. Yep. I can also use two different style terminals and could also use an entire pair of terminals per polarity (so 6-8 leads would be a possibility on an extreme app).
  15. The molds completed a few days ago and the first samples rolled out -- here are a few of the first look photos from our basket manufacturing company! I am super excited about the potential these will bring to out larger woofers. Once our new spiders, cones, surrounds, and spacers are all tooled we can really show off what these are capable of -- those parts should have completed samples as well soon too. These things carry some serious heft... the base plate that bolts to the motor is 9mm thick un-painted compared to 5mm on most 4 and 12-spokes and 8mm on the Ti-18 frames (add about 0.5mm for paint). They are the strongest frames that I am aware of ever to be produced. ----- 10" Model ----- 12" Model : ----- 15" Model :
  16. We did have some unforeseen hold-ups on shipping the SAX-125.4 and SAZ-1500D v.3 pre-orders but they are rolling out again as of today -- we'll be working overtime to get them tested and shipped. Hope everyone really enjoys them upon arrival !!!
  17. Yep. I run them @ 50 Hz / 24 dB in my car with 200 watts rated power per side... assuming I don't do anything stupid with them they sound awesome
  18. * Overall Set * Crossover Cover * Crossover Guts * Crossover Side -- Very thick / heavy duty housing plates * Midrange Front * Midrange Back -- Notice lead wires ran below spider. I will also likely make the finish chrome for more durability and weather resistance. * Overall side view * Tweeter * Rear Tweeter View * Tweeter Side View ---------- Final MAP price from authorized dealer is $799 for the entire set. I am looking into selling the parts separately as well -- but those details have not been worked out yet. I am planning on doing a good bit of testing and tweaking before starting production on these -- so consider this pretty early in the game. Will update once the prototype set arrives and we test it.
  19. Correct -- total set handling is 120 RMS. Read the boxes on other brands carefully -- it's almost always total set power handling plastered on the box Plus the rating we are using is a 24-hour continuous operation rating -- it's very conservative.
  20. They will run $199 MAP from an authorized dealer when in stock for the set -- I haven't set pre-order yet but will be less.
  21. Production should wrap up soon -- typical transit time is ~30 days once they depart. * Mids ready with frames and shims for assembly * Chromed back plate with logo etched in * Going down the line * Back of box has mid and tweeter measurements, response graphs, and midrange T/S specs * Front of box has feature highlights (yes I know I have an error on there -- too late to catch it!) * Tweeters ready to roll
  22. Glad you enjoy them I really just can't stand to throw away a speaker that can be repaired... so we can re-cone almost every woofer we've ever sold (the SD-1 and SD-1 v.2 are the only exceptions) down to the E8 v.1 (with E8 v.2 basket adapted to fit).
  23. Yes, larger boxes reduce mechanical power handling. It is often difficult to fit the port in a box for a single woofer at a low tuning, though.
