  1. First production is shipping from Korea this week -- they are all sold. Second production is 3-4 months.
  2. I am getting closer to finalized... still tweaking the coil and spider compliance a bit to get it exactly where I want it to be. I am entertaining making one last small run of the SA-8 "classic" to tide everyone over if this will take much longer.
  3. Foreign distributors handle their own warranty locally -- which may take extra time in getting parts. Typically they all handle their clients well and as promptly as possible.
  4. Just for a little bit today to do Payroll and stuff
  5. I am REALLY pleased so far... plan to add some mass and do more testing. Tuning looks to be in the high 30s with no added mass, would like to see it in the low 30s
  6. Just a video of them moving -- not a ton of output sitting in free air like that + I was playing things just to make them move for testing. We threw it in a corner afterwards and it was pretty impressive Can't wait to drop it in my car !
  7. Also took a quick video of the first time powering it up on the test bench... that is uploading. Just a quick one to show the sub and PR moving. I will get more and testing once I drop it in my car.
  8. Yeah, I know. I've used PRs in home theater and a general rule that I like to follow is ~40% more cone area than the powered driver. But there are exceptions based on PR performance. As long as cost was say two 8" PRs for the price of one of the new SA-8s, I for sure would be using these. I'll check with Dave on it and see what we can come up with on making 8" versions.
  9. An 8" PR would be pushing it for an 8" woofer -- typically you want the PR a bit larger than the woofer. For applications where the user won't abuse it too badly an 8" PR may be fine... I may work with Dave on that in the future and at least test it.
  10. Indeed Tuning low in ~0.6 cubes is a PAIN so I think this could be the ticket for all the single 8" guys out there so they don't end up with a port bigger than their box :drink40:
  11. It is thicker in all areas than any readily available 8" frame.
  12. So I got up with Dave about making me a cool passive radiator... why, you might ask ? Well... first, I don't make passive radiators. Second... Dave does and he does good work. Third... fitting a port in the box for one SA-8 is a chore and very often not practical. So... the solution is a PR of course ! Dave can make these for other applications as well -- check them out at PSI Car Audio. On the the photos : * Adjustable mass for even lower tuning... we expect to be in the mid 30s with stock mass on this PR. The PR really looks great -- Dave's usual high quality work. I'll get pictures and data up once I have time to make the box. This may become an officially suggested product for usage with SA-8s if it works as well as I think it will!
  13. These should be finishing up early... which would put them in the first week or two of January !!! So get those pre-orders in while you can!
  14. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/123654-sa-8-v2-prototype-completed/page__view__findpost__p__1746808 Earlier in the thread.
  15. It will be a bit past January as I had to make some final tweaks (still working on them). I will post a good ETA soon -- unfortunately the upcoming CNY holiday may throw a wrench in any ETAs.
  16. We will work on it until it does get to that level on this power -- I don't want something that needs huge power to get good results.
  17. On muzak? Yes. I do expect it to do 160s on music continuously -- otherwise we'll have to re-do it.
  18. It's a 3500 already so a good start -- we have some bags left over from Brandon's truck as well (formerly assman's green truck) that we plan to use.
  19. Plan is currently Z v.3 18s I am not looking to peak that low -- I'll be dialing it in to peak where more non-modified music plays in the 30-50 Hz region.
  20. So... I want to do something for real this time and actually get a vehicle that can handle some weight and still drive around without issues. Concerns about driveability have really hampered my previous plans for something large. I really do NOT like driving huge vehicles either for the most part. I happened across a really interesting vehicle by chance on Craigslist last week and decided to pull the trigger ! 2006 Chevy Express 3500 w/ Duramax Diesel Engine! I test drove it and it was alot more comfortable for me to drive than most huge vehicles and has some real power behind it as well. I am looking at mostly music and mostly impressive demoing but would plan to compete in bass boxing and bass race with it. We are talking to Shok about wiring, planning Excessive Amperage for alternators, XS Power 16v batteries, and of course Sundown subs, amps, and mids. As of this moment I am thinking about 8x 18" woofers in a 4th order... initial box estimates put me at something like 100 cubes or so while leaving room for box thickness, amps, and batteries... so looking @ 3-4 cubes or so each sealed and 8-9 cubes or so each vented (so either 1:2 or 1:3). Other thoughts have crossed my mind like a bunch of SA woofers... but I know plenty of our Team members have done that already. I don't expect this to get done quickly by any means as we are looking into ways to beef up the doors, floor, and ceiling before we even touch the woofers... we'll also likely get the door panels made first as well (these doors look like they can hold a ton of mids easily). * 8 lugs are nice for this kind of weight ! Later on I'll put nice rims on it as well but these will do until the real work is done. * Dash isn't the best for SPL by the looks of it but that isn't the biggest concern for what I want. * Has a ding on this side... but overall a clean van.
