  1. I am super pleased with the thermal results... you'll find many woofers actually will fail within the 5-minute window without even go over rating -- it's a very difficult test.
  2. Kicker owns all of their own frame toolings -- kinda similar, though.
  3. Thermal test completed @ 60 Hz sine wave : TIME // CLAMPED WATTS At ~400 the heat wasn't building up any faster than it could be dealt with as demonstrated by the minimal drop in power over time once it hit operating temp. So I feel the 400 RMS rating is well deserved -- it could literally handle that "all day" so to speak. Then we hit it with more power after the typical 5 minute test as we normally do... it took over 2 minutes at 500-700 after that to kill it. Conclusion... thermal capacity is a non-issue on this design @ 400 RMS. I have a big, long, boring video I may upload for the test as well. Little inside view after we cut it up :
  4. 6500 is the rated power @ 1 ohm. All of the first run is accounted for to dealers and Team.
  5. Weights : 10 - 16.4 lbs 12 - 16.9 lbs 15 - 17.8 lbs Mounting Depths : 10 - 5.5" 12 - 6.25" 15 - 7.0" Add 5/16" for production due to the spacer I'm adding.
  6. I don't have much in the way of other brand stuff to compare except an older Memphis HPO and many of you may be familiar with it... you can see the E line motor is no slouch and ALOT more than you would expect to get from a small line driver for around 100 bucks retail. The E motor has more steel than the HPO and a wider magnet... just a shorter stack of ferrite. * Gap vents and the "neat" touches I did cosmetically on the steel shaping * BEEF
  7. E-10/12/15 Prototypes are here! After initial testing the only thing I need to do is tool some spacers to put under the frames as these bad boys can get moving a good bit ! Otherwise I'm very pleased so far.
  8. We aren't sure yet exactly -- I know it will cost a bit more than the SA-8 v.1, obviously, with a more expensive frame and a bunch of new tooling + the added shorting ring and so forth. The actual cost will depend on the actual cost of production once that is finalized after all the parts start rolling in for my prototypes. The formula from my cost to customer cost will not change; the same % of cost increase to make will be the increase to the end user.
  9. We should be doing the drawing on Friday -- event went great ! Thanks for contributing !
  10. If I had to guess... yah, something like that. Now that the frame is done we are going to make a new spider, cone body, spider spacer, etc. So lots of new tooling going into it -- then our usual thorough testing. I was really happy with the "v1.75" that we sent over to Pulse... now combining a version of that motor with more strength + new frame and soft parts I think I'll finally be happy enough to make the v.2 a reality !
  11. I am not planning to offer anything but D2 and D4 on the SA-8s
  12. 1.2" + frame thickness + vent ring thickness -- so more than you can achieve with the spider size.
  13. I've noted that any frame with good clearance reminds people of a TI frame -- if you break down the cosmetics of the TI frame there is very few common aspects, though. Different number of legs, different leg style, different terminal mount, different frame base design, etc, etc. Essentially all important aspects of the cosmetic design of the frame are in fact vastly different. I had a bunch of comments on the revised SA-8 v.1 frame where folks thought it looked like a TI basket and it's completely different from this one
  14. Once the design is in and tested we'll run a pre-order on these bad boys We should have at least the first iteration in for a sample test within a month or so I hope!
  15. Here she is... our new 100% Sundown Audio frame tooling... with our name made into it ! * Logo on the inside of the frame... you can see the pre-drills for the spider to be bolted in. Will be a dual spaced spider setup. * Large bottom cut-out hole for a bit more flexibility for future designs + Sundown logo on the back side of the landing. * Nice, clear logo cast in * Inside logo close-up * Frame is a BEAST... tons of clearances. We have 2" from the surround land to spider land... and 1.2" rearward clearance. Up from 1.75" / 1" on the "new style" SA-8 v.1 frame. We are using some of the extra 0.25" of top clearance for the spaced spider setup (0.4" of it) -- the spiders will also be 10mm wider than what we use now on top of that... plus the extra 0.2" of rearward will prevent bottoming out the spider on the top plate. Also -- no frame venting is present, you are not hallucinating... we will use a vent spacer like the SA-10/12/15 to proving spider plateau ventilation.
  16. When we get 100+ Facebook likes I'll put it up

  18. Amp cases get warm - that is their job. As long as you aren't in thermal protect chances are you are fine.
  19. We've extended the sale -- go check it out !
  20. We are working on a full line... everything from these to Nightshades. The E line is our "lowest" line, then the SD-2, then the SA line, will have some in between here later, then Z line, then Nightshade line.
  21. I've been busy... if you cannot tell by all the new product / new prototype threads the last two days. I've been quietly doing testing on some E line prototypes for a bit... and based on what I've learned, tested, etc this is what I've come up with for these guys. Rating will be 300-400 RMS pending a bit more testing on the end product. I've tested some other very good prototypes as well but I feel like these best represent a "Sundown Woofer" as in what our customers expect to get from us. These just finished up at our factory so I should have them in a week or two for some videos and whatnot. IMO these are a little different than what you are used to seeing from an entry line driver  Pricing Estimate from authorized dealer : E-10 : $105 E-12 : $110 E-15 : $130 All specs are with minimal break-in time. Frames will be black when produced. !!! I DO NOT HAVE THE ETA JUST YET !!! All of them feature foam surrounds, dust caps similar to the SA line, high excursion spiders, and excellent coil ventilation for an Entry level driver. The stamped frames are a very strong tooling as well. ---------- E-10 : D2 Specs D4 Specs ---------- E-12 : D2 Specs D4 Specs ---------- E-15 : D2 Specs D4 Specs
  22. This means we can get a real v.2 prototype soon
  23. So it finished up this week with a few pieces rolling out yesterday... yep, sure did ... anyone curious to see ?? :drink40:
  24. Nick Lemon's of Stereo Integrity / Obsidian Audio will be doing the SA-8s for a bit as Mike (woofercooker) has been traveling for work and so forth so is not able to do them at this time. Re-coned SA8's - Car Audio Classifieds ---------- Nick has been re-coning both the 12-spoke and new style frame drivers that didn't meet QC standards and/or warranty replacements. At the moment the shallow cones for 12-spokes are out of stock -- so only the new style frame units are available. $90 plus shipping EACH UNIT If you are interested in these you MUST EMAIL NICK YOUR ZIP CODE!!! His e-mail address is [email protected] DO NOT PM NICK OR ME -- DO NOT E-MAIL SUNDOWN Quoting Nick's For Sale Below : "Re-coned and in perfect working order. The drivers are being sold as-is with no warranty. I bought a lot of used motors from Jake, am cleaning them up, putting new baskets and spacer rings on them and re-coning the drivers with all new soft parts. For those of you who don't know me, I own Stereo Integrity and am a partner/subwoofer designer for Obsidian Audio and I also build production drivers, do re-cones, and drop-in's for Sundown Audio. I can build any SA-8 you want. Normal coils are dual 2 Ohm and dual 4 Ohm."
