I am using Aruco ply from Lowes. Similar performance to Birch ** but a good bit cheaper... have used it before and it worked well for me. ** - It is stronger than "cabinet grade birch" but not as strong as "baltic birch" -- typically the cabinet grade is what is sold at Lowes and ONLY the faces are actually birch. Decided to finally get started on it. The Jeep will be getting a no-wall 4th order build with two 15s. * Battery / Amp Rack area cleaned out... everything un-installed. My multi-channels will sit on those two little platforms where the batteries used to be. * New floor piece cut - everything will attach to this piece. * Of course XS Power D1600s will be used --- That is all for now... just ripped it all out this morning and Brandon helped me cut out the floor piece. Will make progress when time allows.

Project I'm Working On
sundownz replied to sundownz's topic in Sundown Audio - GREAT Amps/Subs! GREAT Customer Service!
Got my drawing of the cone I'm planning to use... it's quite unique too -- 15 grams weight and I don't see anything short of 180 dB breaking it *laughs* (this type of cone may end up finding it's way onto some of our other subs later) Surround has linear throw up until 2 mm from the basket running out of clearance... motor is linear up until 5 mm from that point. The spider will be just as linear as the surround. So the overall design is linear up until right before things start crashing together -
If you have sent an email and it's been OVER 10 days with no response please re-send... got backlogged and I may have missed it.

A few reasons : 1) SPL competitors would pop them at 0.25 ohm burps 2) Everyday customers don't check the fuses periodically to make sure they are tight -- if they get loose they can melt or even catch on fire. 3) Small efficiency gain... if you have a 1500D and run it at 0.5 daily go feel the fuses after you play it hard for a while... they will be warm. Heat = power loss -

We will have to see... coil is pretty short @ 25mm long due to XBL^2 topology. I am trying to see if I can squeeze a "mini Monster coil" in there... aka: 12-layer flat aluminum. If I can do that I think running a 2500-watt amp on one thermally would be possible... I ran a 4500 @ 0.5 daily on the Monster and for bass-race runs (149.9 from one 15) no issue... and it's coil was only 42mm long. The "stock" coil is 8-layer round copper... pretty beastly coil for the length. -

As small as you can fit the motor in. -
SAZ-3500D / 1000D Updates

They are here. As stated earlier shipping of all units pre-sold will be done by Friday. -
So... the SA-8 is pretty badass... but I want something louder. Starting on this project : Yep... a Neo 8 with a 3" coil and 22mm linear one-way excursion (that is XBL^2 that you see) and x-mech of 27mm on the frame I'll be utilizing. Will handle around 1000-watts RMS without much trouble thermally and mechanically. Tooling new spiders and cones just for this driver. Going to see how it turns out... but simulation predicts motor force more than 300% higher than the SA-8 if all turns out according to plan. I am designing it for myself primarily as I want to do 157s with four 8s... but I think others will enjoy them too =) Pricing will be a bit higher than an NS v.2 due to the Neo -- but it is a very unique driver that will be worth it to some folks. Oh yah... the motor will bolt to standard 12 and 4-spokes as well so I can build these as 10s, 12s, 15s, and 18s as well. Motor is a pretty small diameter (~6.3") so will also make a fantastic Street SPL woofer as it won't occupy a ton of room in the enclosure. NO ETA for production or prototype just yet due to the new cone and spider toolings... but I will update this thread as things come along !

SAE-1200D Questions..
sundownz replied to thehoe92's topic in Sundown Audio - GREAT Amps/Subs! GREAT Customer Service!
The primary caps will explode if you put over 15v on it for extended periods of time... and you could also mess up other parts of the amp. -

They are improving in all regards... nothing is being sacrificed to reduce the amps size. The new output section MOSFET bank is about 50% stronger than the old while using half as many parts (this is where the size reduction came in) and the new power supply FETs handle about 50% more current than the old ones (same # of parts, just better ones... like the 2500D is using). Another level of over-built on the semiconductors No reduction in sizing of the power supply transformers or output inductors either. -

Most likely not... as I need them to last until the new ones are ready. If I have any left when the new ones arrive I will have a sale on them, though. -
After nearly four years as our best selling product (our first Class-D on the market for that matter) the SAZ-1500D is being re-designed. Everyone knows and loves the current model as it is a powerful, reliable, work horse of an amp but we have been quietly thinking about what to do in order to make a fitting replacement for a while now... I think that everyone will be happy with where it is going Details will be sparse right now but it is going to shrink about 1.6" following our trend of making amps that are more powerful per square inch (SAZ-2500D and SAX-1200D especially). We are also looking into removing the internal fusing as well -- that was very commonly requested. Details on pricing, power output, etc will be coming out later. I'll start putting out some of the other details when the prototype gets closer -- just wanted to make it known that if you want a NEW current model SAZ-1500D the production run on route to me now is probably the last one (assuming all testing of the new prototype goes as expected). I have a fair amount coming in, though, so anyone that wants one should have the opportunity to get one !

Before anyone asks... we tried closing the sides up and SPL dropped -- it was best open like that. -

* Drivers side fully foamed in and enclosed * Passenger side fully foamed and enclosed The above made my SPL drop hard (I am doing it to prepare for my bandpass setup)... so we came up with an idea. * Mini skateboard ramp ! * Another view This brought my peak SPL back to where it was and my efficiency almost back to where it was. Too bad I never tried the ramp before the foam... I thought about it but never got around to it. -

You guys need to see the "skateboard ramp" we built... I started foaming in the rear side panels of the Jeep in the back in preparation for my 4th order and lost ALOT of SPL with this box as it likes to breathe... so we built a skateboard ramp looking piece and got it back to where it was before -- wish I would have tried the ramp before starting the foam.
