SMD or GMC? hmmmm i know which one i like better. This usb cable used to be behind the front face plate, inside the unit. I took it apart and re-routed the wire to the outside so we could access the wire for the ipad. This is a pretty good spot.

Today's update - It's done! Headunit relocated to stock cassette deck location. HVAC Relocated to the center console. The plug with 24 wires on it was extended about 3-4 feet. That is 48 solder joints (with heat shrink). I made Antheny do it. He is good at soldering so i feel safe with him doing it. While he was doing that, i started making room for the Sony deck. Also, the Sony has built in USB on the face AND a wire on the inside. It is designed to be a hideaway spot for an ipod since it isn't a CD player. Pop the face down and there is a spot to plug in and hide whatever MP3 player will fit. It is the PERFECT place to plug the ipad into so we were able to get sound through the lightning cable and usb. Plus it charges good too! I had to tear the deck apart, find the wire and re-route it to the outside of the unit so we had access for the ipad. anyhow, here are the rest install pics. Hope you like! Youtube video probably tomorrow. I am tired! I don't just make stickers with my vinyl plotter. I have used it several times for templates and (behind the acrylic) covers/openings. This here is just to keep paint out of the 1" 3/4 hole for the VU-Din Needles to shine through. I don't want to see any circuit board so i shot it from the back. From the front you can't even tell it was painted. That's the beauty of doing these like this. Had i painted the front it would have looked like hell. So dripping ass wet even when dry....that is bubble wrap reflecting in the paint. ]

It's a team effort...and it's HIS truck. I taught him how to solder years ago. Ain't no better time to put what he learned in action then now. With 24 wires on this plug that means 48 splice points and 48 heat shrink tubes. If any of you do this, i HIGHLY recommend you don't cut the thing off and attempt to re-attach. Do it one wire at a time. There are SEVERAL wires that are the same as each other. Like 4 reds, 3 greens, 2 with red stripe (for example), 4 yellows, a couple whites. You WILL fuck your ride up if you cut them and lose track of what is what. So that being said, he did 1 at a time. I don't have factory colors (i know, weak haha), but i do have what it takes to get the job done. Antheny made me VERY VERY proud. He soldered great and got it done. The HVAC is now in the center console and out of our way (no trim piece made YET). It works great.

Im sure steve is capable of laying down a good paint job, but having jay/paint shop next door helps too yessir, Jay next door does the painting for me. I am not the greatest painter and it's mostly due to impatience. I like building things that dry in 10 minutes (such as things with fiberglass/body filler in them). I also don't have a booth to properly paint things in. I do all the work of course to get up to the point of painting and then he will go over it with some seriously high build primer, maybe a slight bit of sanding in a few spots. Then from there it gets shot in a very high end booth (which happens to be next door). Not to mention, it is a top of the line body shop so he can whip up any color imaginable on the spot. When i say "Jay, you wanna shoot something for me?" he ALWAYS say's "hell ya!"....so he is who i go to much respect to my buddy Jay next door for ALWAYS being ON IT for me! I can't wait to go see this piece dried later today

the best thing i can say is cut, extend and solder them one wire at a time. Many of the wires in this harness have the same color and or color pattern. If you cut more than one at a time, you will screw yourself. One at a time, it's a tedious job but is pretty easy and safe.

HOLY SHEEPSHIT! Never seen anything like this. Check out this Lexus ISF crashing at the drag strip..it actually looks like it was trying to take flight! At least the driver is ok! WOW obviously it isn't a stock ISF LOL - but still fu##in' crazy!!!

When this thing is all done, it will have a smoked plexi cover over the top of the VU-Din. It will also be painted from the back side to only allow the LED's to shine through. You will see.
