Finally got around to putting a tester on my car, and came back with two parts I need to replace. One being the TPS and the other the EGR. I'm going to replace both, why leave a bad part on if ya can replace it right?

my alt could be taking a shit true, sure hope not tho.....taurus parts are hard to find out for some reason. well used, brand new not a problem. maybe a new mechman alt? nah, dont need one that good. come to think about it, going down my driveway i have hit one spot thats scraped the bottom of my car a few times. usually hitting the subframe area. never noticed anything so i never thought much of it. really i hope its the alt, thats an easy fix. im sure one day i'll get this figured out.

The check engine light does come on, then goes off. According to O'Riely's they cant test for problems if the light is off and it just so happens that when I'm in the area the light stays off but when I'm not it comes on. I've tried autozone but their scanners are for 96 and newer cars, mine's a 93. And yes I do know how to check for a vac. leak. I even have a vacuum gauge to check it. When I was checking for a leak I never saw or heard anything to suggest a leak. Tho I was hearing a whinning sound, not sure where yet been too cold to stay out there long enough to track down all thats wrong (at least that I'm aware of)

Checked for a vac leak, found nothing. So still looking for the cause of the high idle.

I replaced the IACV but it's still revin up higher than normal. I took it for a spin to see if any other problems were still there, luckily there wasn't any. I did disconnect the battery when I put the new one on to reset the computer, so that shouldn't be the cause. Since this part is brand new and clean the problem in no longer the IACV. I know someone mentioned a vac leak, but I've never heard of a vac leak causing high idle. At least on past cars I've owned a vac leak caused rough idle. Even my grandpa doesn't think a vac leak could cause it, he was a mechanic for 30+ years. I'm think maybe it's my TPS but not sure.

I'm getting a new IACV tomorrow. Heading into work yesterday I had a pretty good scare. About half way to work I noticed my car not slowing down when I left up off the gas, instead it increased in speed going up hill. Anytime I had to go slower than 55 I head to ride the brakes. Kinda scary when ya car wont slow down on its own. I have no idea how I made it to work and back home in one piece. I thought something for sure was either gonna break or I would crash into some slow ass driver.

Don't know where the pintle is or how to reset it so no idea there. Cleaning it did seem to make a difference, doesnt rev up high anymore. Instead the idle goes up and down, but far as I can tell the mileage is back to normal-ish. I did notice how ever today that from a dead stop acceleration seemed to be lacking alot, but like passing on the highway the acceleration was there when I needed it. I'm fairly sure I don't have a vac leak, but I'll check to make sure. I do have an autozone near me, but they don't have a scanner for anything older than 96. I've got a scanner that I can use but ya need to be freaking smart to use it, doesn't give ya read out like other scanners. Instead ya gotta watch the light and listen to the beeps then read the book and try and figure out what is goin on. Not as easy as it sounds.

I want to avoid getting a new one, at least for the time being. Shit cost like 70 bucks out here, I don't have that kinda money right now. Now tell me something, if ya filling up every two days you'd think there was a problem too. Just tried cleaning it, sprayed carb cleaner inside. got it as dry as I could. Don't think a few small droplets would affect much. I turned the radio off and listened to the engine. Now the rpms are going up,down, up, down....think I'm looking at needing a new IAC.

I'm going to try cleaning the iac when I get off work today. I do have a cold air intake on it, didn't seem to affect the car when I first put it on. I've had the battery disconected a few times so the ecu should relize its there already.

lately when I start my car up, sit at a light or turn the car off the engines rpms raise up pretty high. I don't know how high since I have no tach, but I'd guess close to 2k. It doesn't always do this, but it does it enough to where its affecting my gas mileage. I was told it was my idle air control valve, but after reading a few posts on here I'm begining to think not. I wanna make sure that I know what part to get. The idle air control valve aint cheap. Its a 93 Taurus GL

Ok so about a year ago I bought a 95 Mustang to fix up, well the project ended up being more than I could handle at the time. So after only owning the car for a couple of weeks, I sold it. I got a thing in the mail today about taxes on it, shouldn't be any and of course there isn't. Instead it says the PVA wants to talk to me about it. I can't think of why tho, I went to the court house with the guy who bought it from me and transfered the title and everything there. What could they possibly want from me? I don't owe anything on it.

sounds like shes doin better, the unknown can really mess with ya mind. glad it sounds like she will pull through.

man thats sad, hope ya mom does make it. had an aunt who had a stroke a few years back but nows doin real good. lets hope its the same for ya mom.

Thanks man, it should be one hell of a project. Honestly I don't think anyone else would have the balls to even think of doin something like this. I would def. do a build log on this car if I went a head with it. Of course the build log would start after I got it road ready, don't think ya'll care to see that part. Ya'll want the fun part shown, the audio. I do have an idea of what direction of where I want to go with the build. This would be more of a show/weekend car, that way I can keep my Taurus a daily driver. Either way tho, I wont be doin anything till it warms up. Temps below 45 are way too damn cold to do anything outside. I do have a shop to work in, but no electricity so means no heat in there. If I get enough encouragement I may do it.

The other day while surfing the internet I came up with a crazy idea. I have a 1980 Ford Country Squire wagon just sitting on my land. The car has been sitting for many years, can't think of how many right now. I want to say at least 13 or years. I do know that bringing a car thats been sitting that long takes alot of work, hell I have done it before. I took a 1986 Mazda B2000 thats been sitting for 10 years and put it back on the road, last I heard it was still on the road after I sold it. I learned what to do and not to do with that little truck. The wagon I'm intersted in bringing back to life is pretty nice. It has a 351w with only something like 45k on the odometer, everything still orginal. Only reason it was parked was cause the cat got clogged. Since we don't have emisions down here thats no big deal. Right now its a god awful yellow with the fake wood, that would be changed quick. There is one part about this that scares me more that the complete over haul of the fuel system. Some idiot forgot to roll the windows up all the way so rain over the years has gotten in and now mold has started to grow on the drivers door panel, also its been sitting in the woods all this time, so who knows what might be in there. Over the summer I started to clean it out cause I thought I had it sold. Now I think I want to bring life back into this old car. Since its a wagon the possibilities are endless. What are some thoughts on this?

Ok so heres an idea I had for my interior, instead of yanking out the seats and door panels, and possibly carpet. I think instead I'm gonna go with a black and tan theme. The carpet would still be replaced but that would be it. I can probly add black highlights to the door panels by painting some of the plastic parts. Still unsure about the head liner tho.

I may do just that sometime, still unsure what to do about the headliner. Got a quote a while back from a local shop for $180 to fix it. I'm thinking about doin it myself, but not sure what material I should use. I like the look of suede but I don't think I should use that. Or should I hmm.

True true, I could try that. It would be easier, who knows the jy may even work out a deal or something.

Has anyone completely redone their interior? I'm thinking bout takin my boring tan cloth interior and changing it to either black or a dark grey. I'll be throwing in an accent color to kinda break things up but not sure what color to use right now. The car it self is painted med. seafoam green met. I could bring that color inside like on the dash, but I don't the door panels. Now I'm not going to go out and buy all new carpet and seat covers and stuff. Instead I'm going to use dupli-colors fabric paints. Only thing that I'll be buying far as fabric in concerned is the head liner. It looks like someone had a fun time with scissors on the roof. Yes I know I've spoke of getting rid of this car, but I think I'll keep it a while longer. The transmission is going out on it and will need to be rebuilt or replaced sometime in the near future, but with only 115k on the engine the car is still in great shape. Anyways back to the interior, any thoughts about what I should do here. I want it to look good since I spend alot of time behind the wheel.
