  1. I get what your saying I will check to make sure, also on what your saying korey, I haven't smelt anything since taking them out and puting them back on. Along the power, they can't be overpowering my subs since they are 260 watt RMS, and this amp is only a 250 watt 4 channel alpine, while my MTX was putting out 425 bridged.
  2. I don't know what you mean by rubbibg, but the subs are pretty damn centered, when I had them in normal the JBL symbol looked pretty centered to me.
  3. I have a playlist on my ipod of songs that hit the best on my set up, I played the same songs before and after I took out the subs and put thee back in, each song before I did it smelled, each song after I did it didn't smell. Als what do you mean the 2 HU? I never mentioned another HU.
  4. I really don't, honestly, some songs hit harder on a normal phase, some harder on a reversed phase. I just keep it at a reversed phase just because the majority are strong on that.
  5. I think many are failing to see that my subs are inverted, thus I can't really fry my subs or roast them, because I will smell it right away. Also feel that not everyone is reading everything, i said they smelled after a while at full tilt, Took them out then put back in, played over full tilt without smelling anything, thus why I am so stuck on that the pressure inside the box from heating and cooling did it.
  6. I know the gains are right because it's my friends amp whos uncle set with a oscope. The smell I smell is sub, I know what it smells, Yes I have my phase set to 180* on my HU settings. The reason why I put them inverted, was so if they did smell, I would notice before it was to late with the smell taking longer to seep out of the box when they are inside. 2 10" JBL GT1000d, alpine MRV-F250 amp 4 channel bridged into 2, running each sub off a seperate channel at 8 ohms. Also yes I know that making my box volume bigger does something, in my case to much of a difference because the subs are small and only inverting so there is not a huge difference. Only difference I noticed when I did the inverting first, was that some songs that used to be just out of my Hz range on the low end could now be hit better.
  7. K I have a question I am sure might never have been asked, I have 2 10" subs sealed in a box, I put them inverted so that if they started to smell. I would smell it WAY sooner than it would inside the box. Lately after 45 seconds into every song on full tilt I start to smell my subs, don't know why, gains are right on this amp so I don't know what could be doing it. I thought maybe, where I live, during the morning and night, and some days, it is really really cold, then some times during the day and for long periods of the day, it can get really really hot. Could this have any effect on the pressure inside the box, and how it reacts when the subs try to play. I just took out my subs for a few mins then put them back on, and tried them out again, going above full tilt and not smelling them at all. Anyone think that my hypothesis as to why my subs smell is correct?
  8. I got another question, if the box specs from the dealer for my subs say 1.2 cu per sub ported to 35Hz, since I'm going lower shouldn't I make it a bit bigger to accomidate lower notes?
  9. I still have the 40% discount, I am just broke for a while and have no way of taking advantage of it. ALso I did lots of math after it, and if I where to buy a T500-1bdCP from Audiosavings, It would be cheaper, and better fit my subs than any of MTX amps, with the discount. Also for skateboard, guy, I get what your saying. The only reason I think it blew was because the amp isn't 2 ohms stable.
  10. Haha, I was out of an amp until today when I found my y splitters for my RCA cables.
  11. Was not worth the big bucks to get it fixed, MTX didn't even carry parts for it anymore. It's fine though, this is my first ever build so it's nice learning experience, and I got the amp and subs for free
  12. So the other day, I started to hear a whining noise that was attuned to my electrical, weird, checked grounds, everything was fine. Then yesterday it got really really bad. Me and my dad got to trying to figure it out, we smell my amp and it smells burnt. I get it in, never opened ever before, still had warranty. Called MTX, they said I could get any amp for 40% off. Well I thought, why not try to repair it. I opened it up to get a big wiff of burnt smell, knew for sure it was the amp now. I smelt around the amps board, I have no experience with this type of repair, or in the field of circuit boards. I pined the smell to a certain location on the board, brought it over to my neighbor who found it was a resistor blew. Well I thought why not just get it fixed, I know all I need is some solder and a soldering iron, along with a new resistor and it's worth a shot. Took the amp over to Fry's Electronics out by me, they said they didn't understand the resistor because it had 2 gold rings around it, which it shouldn't. He looked though through their stock and found one similar to mine, just with a different background color to it. Took the Board off, and attempted to take it off, used a soldering iron on wires and what not but never on a circuit board. Took a bit to get the fired one out and new one in, but I got it. So excited to try it out, didn't even put cover back on and just wired it up. Turned my car on, I feel and hear the bass, about the same as it was before. Suddenly the subs stop, 2 seconds later my electrical restarts and there is no power to the amp and I see its smoking, now 2 other resistors fried. So I see no point in trying more because I am sure the amp is done, the date on the board is 4/15/98. Now I am stuck using my friends old alpine MRV-F250, 4 channel, bridged to 2 running series at 8Ohms, I had them in parrallel but the 25A fuse blew, so I replaced with a 30A fuse and switched it to 8 Ohms and it's no problem. Will probably try it back on 4Ohms tommarow. I have picture but they are in my camera in the garage, and it's pouring out
  13. oops, think I made a mistake, my subs are AJBL GT100d ,here's a link to all the dimensions of the sub. Is it .1 displacement per sub, or .01?
  14. How about this? Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  15. Well I have my box plans all done. I know people use 45's in boxes to allow better airflow, also mostly in the port since it is not needed elsewhere. Does anyone know if and how I could use those in my box to help that out? Also I am open to suggestions that could make it louder Here is everything about my box just incase you where wondering. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Edit, Also if anyone has any suggestions on getting your box to be as clean as possible plz feel free to do so.
  16. I have never heard of them, and guessing if they are a crappy off-brand, they won't put out rated.
  17. WHat do you mean around? do you mean not use one? To set gains use a O-Scope to find when the signal clips, or use the chart on this page Here.
  18. Now that is where your problem is, also having the gains all the way up wont help either, set them with a DMM and that could help maybe. Edit: Change the ground to a chasis strut or something, cant quit think of exact anme if that aint it.
  19. Well I did this, seems to hit a lot harder, just seems like it is better like this than in the box. I have a setting on my HU for SW Phase, its either NML or REV, I have it set to REV, it seems to sound better like that. if that is what you are talking about a 180* phase, what does that even mean and do?
