if you get pulled over and you tell the cop your i.d. is in your glove box, does the cop have the right to tell you he's going to grab your i.d. out of the glovebox? if he finds something illegal in there could it be considered an illegal search and seizure in court? asking this for a family member, not myself.

It's arms reach rule..
Glovebox is arms reach rule....
all he needs is "probable cause" and anything within "arms reach" is immediately searchable.

Pretty much in a standard trunk car the ony place they can not look is trunk,under hood.

we can all agree that my certain family member is stupid for keeping drugs in his car anyways or doing drugs in the first place anyways, the cop didn't smell the weed in the car and had no reason to say " no i'll grab it for you " then bam he finds the drugs in the car, my family member didn't tell him it was ok, he just went and did it, we're trying to see if it will hold up in court that it was an illegal search since he was only pulled over for a traffic violation,...
