  1. i live in South Dakota o_O.. lol and im 16 so my parents i don't think.. would let me haha, but i would have no problem paying for the wood and some stuff, you cant make steve pay for everything! i just think it would be really cool, even if their weren't prizes i would still be happy to take place in the competition and X2 for the D bag part
  2. X2...and it would also be hard for people like me.. who have no shops around for hours.. so yeah he would have to put alot of trust into people.... maybe just like one person alone... from different states and just take alot of videos of, whatever the "challenge" could be
  3. I was watching steve's videos on youtube, and watched the 15" woofer challenge, where their were three teams who had to take a 15" sub (random), and try and make the best box for it. At the end they scored based on average SPL, peak SPL, look, speed ( of build), trunk bonus, and the durability of the box. At the end all three teams did very well, but team 1 came out on top. while i was watching the video, i thought to myself " how cool would it be to do that?!?!?". Then i had a great, yet not very thought-out idea. For those unlucky few, like me , who live out of state , have a challenge, as so like the 15" woofer challenge. This is where the "not thought-out" part of my thread comes out. I have no idea how you could make it work, other than maybe post videos or something. It was just a great idea, at first, when i wa thinking of it anyway . anyone else think this could maybe be possible, and would be fun? I don't know about you but i think that would make my day doing a contest like that FTW!
  4. I'm checking it out right now. Sorry I didnt take pics of my box being glassed man. hhaha its all cool.. good wrok tho =P
  5. nice box actually =Pif you ever have time check my build out "1997 dodge intrepd".. their is a pic of my box on it
  6. Fiberglass and resin the inside then. ive wondered this also, what difference does the resin make ? i am wanting to do this, but their is no point for me to right now, becuase i dont have the basic concept of what it will do lol People claim the resin makes it stronger. I use resin in my screwless design that only use liquid nails. It adds strength and rigidity supposedly. Its cheap, and some people claim it can gain a .5-1 db gain in SPL designs. ok.. now i kinda git it lol, sounds like a challenge for some to take over =P " resined box vs. non resined " It has been done. Even Steve himself recently said he uses it because it gives the box more strength. Not because it massively increases the DBEEEZ COOL! less work for me lol. only problem is the mess fiberglass makes =( You are only going to use the resin. If you wear gloves and take your time, and mix things right its not bad at all. ... il try my hardest rofl

  10. well i guess its pretty much taste from what i'm understanding.. idk i'll make another box and see what i prefer
  11. =P i have my MDF box, ill make a birch one this winter in wood shop, and see watch one i prefer =P... the only downfalls i'm hating on the MDF right now is how easy it cracks, its like handling a little baby while getting hit by a car..... hard to work with!... well not necessarily hard to "work with" but you just have to be careful about drilling, screwing , and screwing in the screws a little to deep, it will also "crack then"
  12. =P im runnin around close to 2500 rms, so shuld be ok haha.... hah i wanna try birch this winter =P
  13. ! lol haha i beleive that... seen it done before haha...... so birch would actually be a better choice?
  14. most people use MDF for making boxes, because it apparently must resonate the sound "better" is what i have researched, but then i also see some people use birch, or maybe even oak ply, or maybe some other type of typical wood you would find at your local lumber yard what i am trying to figure out, is what is the difference between using MDF, and maybe birch. after Messing around with MDF, for a while, i found it to be cardboard like, and when u press to hard when you are drilling, the underside starts to split. MDF is very fragile in a sense, and birch is a strong hardwood. Birch is hard and strong , but may put more of a dent in your pocket than MDF. What i am really trying to figure out is, would the MDF be a better wood for boxes, because it may resonate the soundbetter? what is the real difference?
