  3. Well I do have a back up pair of DC slippers, and a few New Era backups, but almost every penny I get goes into savings for a system so I take VERY good care of my apparell
  4. How there's only three articles of clothing that you don't get bashed on for wearing day after day? Hats, hoodies/jackets, and shoes! I've had the same SRH jacket (finally broke it out yesterday! ) for about 3 years and nobody has ever asked me why I wear it day by day. I've had the same Nike 6.0's for about 2 years, and the same SRH hat for... 3 years as well? But when I wear my FiCarAudio.com shirt twice in two days, people get butt hurt!
  5. My Sundown SA-8D2 should be coming in sometime this week, I've been hearing about a lot of different sizes and tuning frequencies that work perfect for this sub, but I am not working with a whole lot of space! I am wanting to build around 0.8 cft^3 @ 34hz, but it's going to be impossible to get that from a box that's built under the rear seat. I'd like to be able to get the most SPL possible out of this box, but still be stable enough to be a daily driver. I've heard of these things outbeating 12's with a single 8" so I'd like to be able to turn some heads My initial thought was to build it between the front and rear seats. Not whole lot of people ride in the back seat anyway (May do an SA-8 wall back there after it's paid off) so box depth isn't really an issue. Keep in mind the draw-up is just a rough sketch of what I'm looking for. I've already taken into account the displacement of the port and the bracing and it will put me around 0.84 cft^3 @ 34.67hz (according to REAudio's box calculator) and in another forum, a guy claimed to achieve 147.3 dB's on 600w RMS with an enclosure very similiar to the one I designed. As you can see, I don't have an issue so much with length. Mostly with height and depth and the angle of recline the front seat will have. I have seen how far these 8's can throw, and I definitely don't want the cone slapping on the seat. Sundown recommends that there's at least 2 inches between the bottom of the box and the bottom plate of the motor. Here's my rough drawing of what I was thinking. I'm just getting a tad tired of coming up with design after design and nothing ending up working, and I finally thought of this one. Simple, yet effective? Any comments/suggestions? I'm looking to get this done pretty soon, haven't had beats in over a year!
  6. Yeah, I know my mom hates systems and it's probably because she hasn't heard a real one (used to all my friend's two-bit systems), but moms are moms. I explained to my mom why I love audio so much and I think she understands now. The feeling I get after months of saving money, building the box, setting gains, running wiring, tuning everything correctly, and hearing it all in the end is a feeling I can't replace with anything else. Pride, commitment, euphoria, and many other emotions piled up into one just can't be replace for me. It could be a lot worse, I'm sure no mother wants to see her kid sticking himself/herself with needles and bugging out for a couple days on end. AUDIO IS MY ANTI-DRUG!
  7. Yeah we felt the Oklahoma earthquakes here in Wichita. I started to see my monitor shake and though that Reese's brownies + monster energy = some form of acid. Then the news reported a 5.6 magnitude near Stillwater. Lol
  8. This is just the start of my build log. I have ran into a few problems I thought I would post to see if you guys had any ideas. I have already gotten my Kenwood KDC-135 installed, Line Out Converter installed (Preamps on the back of the unit went bad for some reason). I have Alpine Type R 6.5's up front and Type R 4x6's in the rear(no amps yet :/). The only problem I'm having right now is where I'll be running my power wire (see pictures). I am a little nervous about doing this, I've never had to drill into the firewall for any of my vehicles but it looks like this is going to be the only way. My other problem is how I'm going to build the box! (once again, see pics) It's already pretty well confirmed I'm not going to get the 0.8 cft^3 @ 34hz by building under the seat, so I decided to make the box a little shallow, but a little wide and flush mount my SA-8 between the front and rear seats so they don't get in the way. Here's the pictures: This is how small of an area I'm working with (amp is only temporary, SPL Audio Z2X820) Yeahhh, not a whole lot of space. I know, my truck is very dirty right now but she will be cleaned up prior to build Where to run power wire!? Not seeing any entries over here Where I was originally thinking of drilling into the firewall. Looks a little iffy with the A/C lines, though. Center of the front of the firewall. directly behind the intake manifold... Possible points of entry? Those two bolts look a little deceiving... Thought this would be a LOT easier than it actually is! More photos will be posted as I progress. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
  9. Hello, SMD forum-ers! I am new to the forums (sorta, haven't really been active in my account till now) and I just thought I'd introduce myself and my shop dog. I found my love for car audio when I was 13, and decided it was what I wanted to do for the remainder of my years. I got my first system when I was able to drive. I saved up some money and bought two 15" Kicker CVX's, a ZX1500.1, Kenwood KDC-135, all StreetWires wiring, and made the box myself. My 3 years (then) of studying systems, crossovers, equalizers, gains, LPF's, etc... Had paid off! I was the loudest and most respected sophomore at my high school. I started building MDF and fiberglass boxes when I was 14 and I just find a certain feeling of accomplishment through it that can't be explained through anything else. Currently, I am about to enroll at Installer Institute in Holly Hill, FL (right up the road from Daytona Beach ) to get my certification and simply further my knowledge. In the meantime, I have a friend who recently asked me if I wanted to co-own a shop with him. Most of it is already paid off, but he doesn't want to run it alone and I'm the only one he can trust to responsibly own and operate a shop with him to be successful. I am paying off the 1996 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT ext cab I bought from my grandma, and I am fixing up my mom's old beat up 2001 Toyota Corolla CE. The Toyota is currently on hold because I recently got unemployed and I'm running low on my funds for it. Enough about me, I'd like to introduce my shop dog, Jade. She is a brindle/bluenose American Bully Terrier / American Pit Bull Terrier and as of today is 11 weeks old. She is the BEST Pit Bull puppy I've ever owned and the thing I love about her is I can be running a router, jigsaw, table saw, anything and it doesn't scare her. She will sit right by my side and just watch. She is ungodly smart and she learned to sit on command within 15 minutes... She was just barely 7 weeks old at the time. I am currently teaching her how to "fetch" my tools. I did this by taking some colored vinyl tape and marking the different sizes with different colors. So far she has 10, 11, and 12 down like a champ! It's crazy how fast she is growing, but her daddy was a 100+lb purebred American Bully with a 23" head, so I guess that explains the rapid growth. I can't describe how much I love this puppy and it makes me so upset that people now discriminate me everywhere for owning such a misunderstood breed. Well that's all I have for today, just thought I'd kill some time waiting on the rest of my wiring to come in. I know that ^ was a lot to read, but if you have stuck around to read to here, I congratulate you! Anyway, thanks for allowing me to introduce myself and I will be starting a build log on my truck pretty soon. Peace! P.S- The red Doberman in the right picture is my "80lb baby" and she is pretty awesome as well!
  10. I was in a similiar situation. My mom and dad taught me growing up that if I wanted something bad enough, I would save my money for it so I would appreciate it more as my own. Now that I have saved my money, I'm ordering a Sundown SA-8D4, and my mom won't even speak to me! Kinda backfired on her if you ask me Quote from my mom as of yesterday: "I don't see why you want all that thumping and attracting attention of people who want to break into it and steal it all! It's a waste of money and it's stupid!" My response: "I don't see why you spend your child support money on PoGo games, beer, and cigarettes! It's a waste of money and it's stupid!"
  11. I'm definitley thinking about it! I had planned on going with the SA-8D4 since I'm not working with a lot of space, but for $120 it sounds like a good deal. I should be getting paid today or tomorrow, either way I will let you know.
  12. Project Corolla is being put on hold due to unemployment and the possibility of opening a shop!

  14. Just got some more up! I'm still getting used to putting pictures on forums and stuff...
  15. Sorry for the long wait guys, a lot of stuff has went down since I started this project and I am not even scraping the surface yet. Had some deals fall through, a sick dog, a crazy b*tch of an ex-girlfriend (came over at night and literally beat the fiberglassed tag relocation in with a hammer and had her new man steal my brand new 18" Enkei's!), got a part time job, and a lot more but it is slowly but surely coming along. I'm gonna try this real quick, I'm new to "foruming" so we'll see how this works! P.S- My interior had been exposed to some sunlight causing some cracking as well as collected dust, duct tape is holding my sound deadener down while the adhesive sets. Like I said, it's a project! It's nothing to get excited about yet! Lol Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us I'm thinking about going behind that black panel, cutting out the crossmember, and doing somewhat of a blowthrough! Uploaded with ImageShack.us This was the headache of the evening, I was running my engine to chassis ground for my Big 3 (pictured above) and had to relocate the ground. I had double checked to make sure my bit wouldn't hit anything major (i.e a hose, line, or a CONDENSER!!!) and as I started to drill, the bit went through, but it had warped and bent and put a small hole in my condenser (You'll see a small hole in the top right corner)... HISSSSSSSS!!!!!! Antifreeze everywhere... Uploaded with ImageShack.us More to come! Thanks for tuning in guys!
  16. So when I was 15, I inherited this P.O.S Corolla from my mom. I started some body work on it and ran out of money so it sat in my driveway for the longest time. So far I have stripped almost the entire interior and plan to work my way inside to out. I plan to cut out the crossmember behind the rear seats and fiberglass from the trunk to the inside of the car and such. I am going to put a pretty big system in it and it is going to take me a while to do it all, but I just look forward to giving this old car a new life. I will be posting pictures as I go to show my progress throughout the build. I hope you all enjoy! Stuff done so far: Shaved taillights & emblems Relocated tag (fiberglassed into the trunk) Gutted interior Interior floorboard carpet removed (smelled like spoiled milk and 10 years of a "hot summer"
  17. Project "Joy-ota" is underway!
