  1. A lot of the burp systems need to "roll into it" because of being wired so low (.33,.25, and lower). The box rise helps with this and the amps end up seeing a little or a lot higher ohm load than what is metered at rest. If I play one note lower on my burp box I have to roll very slowly into it or the amp goes into protect. In the end, if you are serious about knowing the how's and why's, you need to invest in a clamp meter, 2 or more multimeters and a TL. That way you can understand and "see" what happens on each box, port, modification change you make.
  2. Ill be there in PS 0-600 with a small points getter. 4 10s on a D5 @.5 ohm juiced by 2 XS Power 16v. Hope to see at least one or two of y'all out there.
  3. Have you metered the rca outs to see at what volume they go past 4v? Can you test the head on another amp? Id like to know what voltage you are getting at 18 of 62. 99% sure its nowhere near 5 or even 4 volts. Gonna say 1 volt or even less.
  4. As far as the fear of high HU voltage goes....I wouldn't worry about it unless you are runnning it full out all the time. Such as an example of 34/35 35/35 for an Alpine on volume. The headunits I have tested only produce the rated voltage at the last one or two clicks. So I would guess that the un boosted output of your 5v out hd would only be over four volts at the last 8 or 10 clicks. ( depending on what the max number is....60 on the pioneers I'm referring to.) As others have said...this points to other reasons for your problems. Just take your time and test everything piece by piece and you'll find it.
  5. USACi superstock 0-600. 1 D5 @.33 on 2 xs D1000s no alt powering 6 lvl 3/4 10s. 157.2. Same set up with 4 10s @.5. 155.
  6. So you have each 10 in 1.5ft3? If so, that's way to big. You might wanna start at around .8 with 16in2 of port and work from there. I tested 2 lvl 3/4 10s on a D5 at .25 with little heat issues. I ran into mech max but not thermal. What vehicle are they in? You can see what size port I ran on 4 this weekend in Houston
  7. Thanks Matt. I just took some pics tonight and should load them up soon. The Austin Heatwave is 7/23.-24
  8. Just got in about an hour ago from the trip to Houston. Thought id post my results from the show. I took a little points chaser set up (4 lvl3/4 10s on a D5 w/2 16v XSpower D1000s). First run was in my normal class...0-600 superstock. I had everything set up and when i rolled up the volume i saw 154.7....i knew it shouldve been a lil louder. I checked the mic and it moved facing it 180 degrees from where i set it. Grrrrr.. I reset the mic for the second run in super modified (just for points) and put up a 55 even. Not too bad. The other scores were not that great overall, so i kinda just paid for points. Anyway....just wanted to say i repped DC in the lanes and put 2 more W's up for the cause. Next show is Texas Heatwave Austin in July (regional event). Thanks Rusty...and Rob for your time and advice.
  9. Got my first show of the season coming up on the 29th, so im headin in to the shop for a bit of new box testing. Last time i tested was at USACi finals. I did a 157.2 at finals at a shockingly low 50hz and it was only a tenth or 2 lower at 49hz. From my earlier notes that was just waaaay too low. I didnt even find that out till 45 min before my time slot. Soooo....i built a new box to find out if there is the potential in my system that i think there is. I shall post results of tomorrows activities later in the day...prolly around 10 or 11. For this round of testing, 58 and a little more is the goal. We will see how it pans out.
  10. The best thing you can do is just take notes at every show. Best freq for each of your 2 runs. Just make sure you have a mental checklist of things that you need to check and things you need to do to make your best possible score. Dont change too many things during each run. Maybe just pick 1 or 2 freqs that you think are the best and give them a full run on a full charge. Then make notes of what you did....dont guess. Im sure this is very basic stuff...but its very important. My buddy put the mic on the wrong side of his car and couldnt figure out why he lost 3 dB till the next day, and hes been doing this since 98. Ive forgotten to turn on my remote wire....moron..(more than once). I hope to see your #s increase as the season goes on. If i can help in any way....just ask.
  11. Well then, if all goes well....i shall see you there. Ive gotta get points for finals. Houston is stop # 2.
  12. Just a question and observation. Did you do anything different during your two runs? The wave for your port run looks good but the outlaw wave looks terrible. It looks as if you didnt have a solid tone long enough to pressure properly. Could that have been part of the problem with the lower score? I do know weather can affect your score...buuut..with it going in 2 different directions on 2 different runs....thats a bit weird. Im not pickin on you, just wanna help if i can. Other than that, you know how i feel about anybody puttin their build in the lanes....respect. Congrats on your 2 1sts.
  13. Twiztid...are you going to any of the Heatwave events this year? The first is in SA, second in Hou and the last before finals is the regional in Austin. If so, id like to take a peek at your build and see it in action.
  14. Ahhh...then bummer. Well then...as time and money permits...get to it! dBs are like Easter eggs...sometimes you gotta work hard to find them...but when you show up with a basket (truck) full of them, others take note.
  15. The waiting to sell yer car part sucks, but the "whole new build" part....MMMMMMMMM. Come on....Whole....(everything)....New..(fresh, blank canvass)....Build...(the hands on, watch it grow into your final personalized sound nirvana) Feckin sweet.....for that part, i have sympathy for you.
  16. Thanks for the welcome and responses guys. jg...dont know what score you were looking for but sometimes 1st is 1st. Sometimes i points chase just looking for 2nd or 3rd. On those trips i use my 8" dual 4ohm (its a DD 1508...shhhh..i had it about 2 yrs before the DC 8s came out). With that sub on my D5 at 2ohms i do 147.5 on 16v, but have improved to 147.3 now on 12v. Cant wait to test on 16v. Chode...ill get some pics up soon as i can. Dont know if anybody cares but you can check out some of my custom builds on my facebook page....(not a friend whore, just an invite for DC lovers and cool peoples) look me up by my [email protected]. jg...you know for me sometimes a close show gets me charged up more about the next show and testing/building instead of the sure thing of a blow out run...though i must say that shuttin up hatters put a big DC grin on my face. Thanks again guys for givving me such a good welcome. Hope to meet as many of you as possible in or out of the lanes. Dave.
  17. Stay safe on your deployment and the lanes will be waiting for you when you get back. As will the rest of us. jg..good luck tomorrow. Cant wait to see what you post. Ill be on the look out for your post.
  18. Thanks Street...im working on it. Gonna try to give the crxs and s-10s a scare. As far as pics...ill try to take a couple as i test. Thanks for the intrest. I still have a lot of testing to do and at least 2 or 3 full size boxes to build and test before finals in Sept. Good luck in MECA. Post some results from shows as you compete. Ill be doin the same. As far as spl orgs go...im not biased...ive run dBDrag..IDBL..USACi. I compete in what orgs are around me...so im no snob and i give respect to any person that puts their ride in the lanes no matter the org or what level install.
  19. Hey yall, new to the forum but not to spl or DC. Just wanted to know how many of you are runnin in the spl lanes this year. USACi, dBDrag, IDBL, Midwest.....ect. Im in Texas and my first show for this year is gonna be on 5/28 at the San Antonio Heatwave. Ill be in SS 0-600 in USACi this year. If anyone else is goin, look for me in the silver tC. Im lookin to get a 58+ by then. New box is done with a few extra mods, just need to put it on the meter and dial it in. Also, if anyone is going to any of the shows im attending and they need anything or any help just ask. Hope to meet some of you this season and see what youve got. Good luck to all of you this year. And as always...thanks for all your help Rusty.
