  1. The reason why we supply a copper lug with the properly sized hole with every alternator we sell, is because most people try to use a flimsy gold plated car audio ring terminal with a standard 3/8" diameter hole. When the hole in the lug is much larger than the diameter of the alternator stud, it dramatically takes away from the surface area contact on the output stud of the alternator. This creates a hot spot on the stud, and in some cases can actually melt the copper stud right off the alternator. This is also why Ohio Generator claims that you cannot run a zero gauge cable on their alternators. They use only a 6mm stud, which is tiny in comparison to a 3/8" holes, so subsequently they have a lot of output studs melt off. If you actually find a proper zero gauge ring terminal with a 6mm or 1/4" hole, you can actually run a zero gauge cable on an OG alternator without any problems. ... and to reiterate on what Eric said, positive and negative runs straight from the alternator to the battery on ANY setup. That is the most direct path for current to get from the alternator to the battery. Getting the current from the battery to your AMPLIFIERS is a different story. The best way to do that is to run dedicated positive and negative cables from the battery to the amps, which negates the need for a chassis ground altogether. Our main concern, is that the juice gets from the alt to the battery without damaging the alternator.
  2. We made it to the Semi Finals at the draggin' for toys event. Went a 6.32 @ 113 mph and lost by .004 of a second with a lazy reaction time. System consists of an Incriminator 21 on twin ZX2500.1 amps on 14 volts. Not a bad ET for a car that will do over 150db on the dash at 32hz. The extra weight in the back really helps it hook! http://www.youtube.com/user/Getitdone81?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/V1YwHCutSU4
  3. Prices do not include shipping. We can however fit quite a bit of cable into a USPS flat rate box that ships anywhere in the US for $10.95
  4. We do not plan on releasing zero gauge at this time, we carry XS power CCA and OFC 1/0 cable in stock at very good prices, so we really don't see any need to release our own. It would just be more of the same construction anyway.
  5. There again- When discussing the options, we told you that the 400 amp COMPETITION unit is NOT designed for idle output and will need to be revved in order to do much of anything. If you wanted good output at idle, you should have bought the 270. I thought our answer regarding the unit getting hot was pretty clear, but if you would rather get input from people who don't know anything about alternators, that's fine by me.
  6. It's a 425 amp competition alternator. we told you when you bought it that it would require special care in it's use, or it can overheat. I have had one on my truck for almost a year, daily driven, with no problems whatsoever- but I am also mindful about maintaining my batteries. It is totally normal for ANY alternator to operate in the 220-240 degree F range, especially if it is attached to a large load or battery bank. By the way, e-mail works 24/7, so feel free to send us one if you have any more questions.
  7. We had always asked ourselves why you only ever see 1/0 or 4 gauge cable for sale in the car audio industry. There are a lot of amps out there that don't need the expense of a 1/0 gauge cable, but draw a little more power than a 4 gauge cable can handle. In response to this, we have released our own brand of high quality, ultra flex jacket high-strand count audio power cable in 2 awg. Available in Red or Smoke grey, this cable offers all the awesome flexibility of other popular premium audio cable brands, at an awesome price!! Strand count is 2,940 (which rivals some 1/0 welding cable) Don't throw your money way running 1/0 cable on amps that don't require it- Save some cash and use a great looking great performing 2 gauge cable instead! This cable will service 1500 watt and smaller amps with virtually no voltage drop. Buy any length you want in Red or Smoke grey, just $1.49 per foot for a limited time. (Normally $1.99 per foot) Pure copper ring terminals are available for only $1.00 each. Just give us a call to order: 865-522-6166 ext. 202 Shown below next to SHOK and XS power 1/0 gauge cable
  8. Cable doesn't go bad sitting on the shelf!! Have your family hook you up with the gift of good cable for Christmas- that way it will be waiting for you when you get back. Prices have to go up to MAP pricing on Jan 1st...
  9. Welding cable works fine and conducts well. The only reason to upgrade to a premium Audio cable is because it conducts a tiny bit better from the finer strands, looks cooler and is much more flexible. If you don't mind having a stiffer wire, save the money and go with the welding cable.
  10. Here's a similar comparison for the CCA XS power cable (XP Flex) From Left to right, it's XS power XP flex and MechMan 2 AWG cable just for refference they appear to be pretty much the same size as the OFC 1/0, except the strand count is higher, 5,250 for the both the SHOK and the XS XP.
  11. We just got in a bunch of the new XS power 1/0 cable, and a bunch of people were asking for info on it so I thought I would make a thread. Here are some comparison pics of OFC wire. From top to bottom: standard 1/0 welding cable Kicker 1/0 hyperflex SHOK 1/0 COMP XS power 1/0 XS Flex From what I can tell, the three audio cables are pretty much the same. Same jacket, same flexibility, the XS power looks to have a little thinner jacket, maybe a little more copper, but it's hard to tell.... I'd say that for the price, it is pretty much comparable to any other premium "hyperflex" style audio cable.
  12. I have one on my truck, and it is bad ass. for $499 pre-order price, you can't beat it.
  13. I have all that in this thread: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/122687-mechman-turbo-mustang-at-the-drag-strip/
  14. Daytime vid of the MechMan mustang going 113 mph in the 1/8th mile. Smoked the tires at half track, otherwise it probably would have been in the 6.20 range. Not bad for a ride that will still do 150+ on the dash at 32 hz... enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqYkvdWSLdM
  15. For a Limited time only, select SHOK industries Spools of Cable, RCA's and fuse holders are on sale for 30% to 70% OFF !!! 16. Just went a 6.39 @ 111 on Saturday, still just on 9 psi. Going to a better track this saturday, hopefully I'll get a video of a 5 seccond pass !!!
