  1. ok thanks i wish it was up so i could order my sub. i know i can go to woofersetc.com but id rather do it through the website. any idea of how long it will be down for?
  2. is there something wrong with the skar website because I cant get to it, everytime I go to the link or just type in skaraudio.com it keeps coming up with " Internal server error " does anybody know why?
  3. There are multiple threads related to your question. Try to search those for reference. In summary you want to ground to bare metal(no paint etc) on the frame of the vehicle not to the paneling of the vehicle because this could result in a poor ground. Running multiple grounds is a BAD idea if you planned on grounding to various points of the vehicle. This can create a ground point differential and could cause various issues(alternator whine the worst). If you ground multiple wires to the same frame then that is fine because it has shared potential. This is why people do the "Big 3" because everything essentially will have a common grounding point(the frame). I hope this helps, but if it doesn't like I said search the forums you'll find much more in depth answers. the reason why i didnt look for grounds is because i just came across this and I just wanted to get the best accurate answer because it would make it difficult for somebody to read and understand if they didnt know. so basically what you are saying is that I could have my grounds in different areas only if they are all on the frame because they are all connected to the frame anyway and share that common ground.
  4. thanks for everybodies help too. I really appreciate it
  5. so basically it so that I could use one dist block and run multiple runs of wire and have them all pretty much wired to 1 set of wires so I can have all those wires wired in to one set of speaker wire terminals? does that sound right or am I still off? I just want to know so when I get around to doing my big build I know everything that I can so that I can have it as close to perfection as posible.
  6. You just use one of each, one positive terminal and one negative terminal, it doesnt matter whether it's the inner ones or the outer ones, just use one + and one - ok thanks, I figured that just thought I would ask.
  7. Ok so I get why they put 2 terminals on them now thanks. But say I only have 1 sub how would I wire it the the terminals than. And yes I know I am stupid but what exactly does a dist block do I've seen a lot of mixed emotions on here about them so I guess what I'm asking is what is the fuction of it and what are the pros and cons of it? ( sorry for asking so many questions and not knowing anything but I have been trying to do my research)
  8. this for the most part answered my question but to clarify its basically to sets in one? well I havent really payed much attention to DC because I dont have a dealer around where I live and I dont know how to order anything from them otherwise (which I wish I did so I could buy things) but if your asking about that it has 3 power spots I would assume that you would hook up 3 power cables to it maybe I'm wrong but really what I was asking about was for the speaker wire lol I guess I didnt read all of what you wrote the first time
  9. Ok so obviously I'm new to this site and car audio, so maybe I'm wrong so this is why I'm asking so I know for sure. Ok so I have been looking at mono amps online and I have noticed that some that I have seen picture the amp with 2 hookups for example 2 places for pos and 2 for neg and I always thought that would be a 2 channel amp because all the mono amps I have had only have a spot for 1 pos and 1 neg so if somebody could explain to me that either the picture is wrong or im wrong I would appreciate it thanks.
  10. im interested in this because i too want to get a skar vvx-15 and build a box for what i think mikey is looking for maybe not. but what im looking for is a daily groundpounder that if i were to get it tested i would put up some good numbers. but i assume that one would need more than 1 15 to put up good numbers and have a ground pounder...??. but i like what you said p4 killer because i want to learn and one day be in comps but i still have a long way to go. I am on this forum almost daily trying to learn new things and do resaerch which you guys help me out a lot with so thanks. (sorry for stealing the thread kind of lol)
  11. so the bottom line is what is the best way to ground?
  12. or you could get the skar 4500 or sundown 3500 but ive heard both skar and sundown are really good companies
  13. ive been looking a little bit but havent came across anything so far and i will post pics soon its just been to cold where i live i dont even want to go outside lol and plus its not much anyway
  14. i did look at the websites and they had some stuff but as far as what a lot of people have on here i havent seen on the web but maybe thats because they bought them at a local shop as well. but thanks for the advice. it really helps. and also ive been meaning to ask for speaker wire just the usual 8 gauge?
  15. again thanks for the help but i looked at mechman and only found like a 270 or something but you would say to go with a 300 alt and say a xs 3100? and i dont know how low of a drop is too much lol, another reason why im here, to learn and also were would i find all the accessories for example a digital voltmeter and and good wires and all that kind of stuff? and i guess what are some good sights to order good quality car audio equipment and what ever else i need.
  16. what manufacture would you suggest on the alts and lets say i got 1 alt how many batts would i need and if i bought 2 alts how many batts do you think? and i was leaning more towards the RF's but the kickers were a tad cheaper.
  17. the reason why I downgraded was because i had my system ran in a 98 olds intrigue and i was more worried about selling the car than anything which i still have not done yet but i just bought a amp kit from best buy and ran that. but buy looking at some of these other builds, i would never be able to do anything like that. and when i do upgrade im going to buy all new stuff, basically start as if i had nothing to begin with, i will probably buy the sub first, but for only 1 sub you would say that i may need 2 H/o alts and a lot of batteries? and thanks im glad to be here
  18. I live in St. Paul, MN and go back and forth from northern MN around eveleth but I'm Mainly in St. Paul and I would like to say its about 3 cubic ft but i will take measurements and post soon.
  19. Ok so i finally got around to making an account on here. lol. first i would like to share a little bit about myself. my name is mike AKA PURP I live in MN and obviously love car audio and cars in general. So if there is anybody else on here that lives in MN let me know and friend me. So now that we are past my intro about my self lets get to my setup. ( i have some knowledge on car audio but could always learn more and by what i have read thus far i know nowhere near as much as the most of you lol) anyway i am running just a 15" kicker L5 solo baric inverted in a sealed box powered by an alpine 500 watt mono amplifier with a kenwood head unit which i just bought a couple days ago. with i think a kicker amp kit which i also just added, I was running 4 gauge but now its 8. everything else is stock no batteries or power cells or aftermarket alts. and it bangs pretty loud in my 2002 Yukon Denali. if you have any suggestions on how to make this setup better for the time being i am open to taking all advice. however this is what I am going to have for a new setup. I am going to buy the 18" AA SMD powered buy 2 2500 watt either rockford mono or kicker mono amps. but other than that if there is anyone that lives in MN or that could help me build a tuned ported box that would be great because i have never built a tuned ported box before and also what else would i need for this new setup i.e. batteries or power cells and how many and alts same do i need them if so how many will i need and what gauge wire would be best. also keep in mind that there will be 1 2500 mono amp to each voice coil which I believe would make it 5000 watts total. anyway if anybody has any ideas or advice or anything im all ears lol. thanks guys. P.S. i will be posting pictures of my truck and setup soon.
