a 3 inch coil should/would handle more thermally than a 2.5 inch coil correct?

In theory yes. But motor on how it cools it plays a factor. There's a few 3" coils rated/can take more than 4" coils.
Been seeing these bigass 2.5" coil subs lately, sundown and obsidian and i think another company, subs rating at 700rms+

it is comparing sundown sa 15's 2.5 inch coil to a Incriminator audio 3 inch coil.... both rated 600rms
