I agree with you some what, but with my experience with this spyware, if you don't catch it early, you're not going to get rid of it. There is software out there that can get rid of it when it's in it's early stage. Google Antivirus 2007 or 2008 for more info!!
The longer it's on you machine, it creates multiple files, storing them in multiple locations, including system restore. Soon as you delete one, it renames the file and relocates it somewhere else. Even if you unplug it from the internet, run anti-spyware/adware programs that seem to delete all the file and make you think you have deleted all the files. Soon as you plug it back up, it reinstalls itself due to files not being deleted because the anti-spyware/adware programs skipped them thinking they were windows files. It's crazy stuff!!
Hopefully you can back up your documents, music, ect. to another location. If it's shutting your machine down, it's going to be hard to get rid of it without reformatting and reinstalling windows.
