  1. might have to put in some over time for one of these I know how you feel. I work overtime every chance I get just in anticipation for stuff like this. Brother wants my current 3500D and I figured it would be a good chance to get the v.2 once possible. Haha its a horrible addiction. When I began with car audio I had no clue and spent about 1000 on a basic set up and little by little upgrading and switching out parts I realized I spent over 3K in like 2 months thats when I realized I had a problem
  2. Hey guys thanks for the info. what size tuning and port area would you guys recommend for 2 HDC3 12's... It would be in an Scion Xb with subs up and port back. and powered buy a AQ3500. this is not for sure now, I have a little budget system and would take a while to be able to put everything together but I've been bouncing around ideas for a build and since I would still have to budget myself with my part time job and full time student status an AQ set up seems pretty possible for me with their awesome pricing.
  3. So a properly designed box may help the peakynes? maybe something designed by PWK, Im aware that he knows his acoustics really well and takes into account many things. a properly designed ported box can produce a flat response. PWK IS NOT the end all be all box designer. i guess if you dont have a lot of experience you could ask me, AMI customs, Ray. I know AMI and I have had experience with AQ but not sure about Ray but I know Ray does well designing boxes. but a lot of it depends on your vechicle and tons of testing. the first box you do may not yield the results you are looking for. But i will say 9/10 go ported. and especially with AQ woofers go ported and give them a lot of port. Like i said before, these things are stiff as fawk. give them at least 1.5k a piece and they will start to move. ahah. If you want a design i could help you. but sealed is def not the way to go with AQ or almost all high output applications. dont get me wrong, sealed can work in other applications with other subs, but with those subs go ported. Thanks a lot man, I understand the trial and error part of it. Ive done it but in an engineering lab. If and when decide to get a pair i will definitely hit you up with questions xbox a box design

They get down, but dont GET UP DD's do both...letssss gooo DD I heard a pair of DD's and they are awesome but when taking into account price, I don't have tons of money to poor into my system ( college life ) like that so if I were to choose id go AQ with a budget you get an awesome bang for your buck with AQ
  5. Thanks for the info but what exactly do you mean peaky??? and most of my friends do listen to a lot of rap and hip hop. I know what you mean about the enclosure too. Here where I live, kicker L7's are cream of the crop ( if you don't have them you're not cool ) and Ive heard some in pre fab boxes that sound real crappy and Ive also heard some in properly designed boxes that make them sound pretty damn loud and get low as hell. I like the subs but for like 350 a piece for 15's ( local shop price ) I could get a FI BL or a nice sundown or something. where do you live, OK? I was in stillwater, OK for a year and a half at OK state for school, Kicker had a plant right across the lake from the disc golf course. I live in NYC and the trend here are L7's and EV's man. look into any car with a loud system and you have a really good chance of finding 1 of the 2 haha

  7. Is that after break in man. Im just looking to learn here and maybe pointing a buddy in the AQ direction but I know he's not into car audio the way we are and waste money running proper electrical to keep up with something as big as an AQ3500 which would give the 2k RMS to 2 as you suggested.

If you played a sweep, it would get louder at some point. 99.99999% of all sub setups have a peak, so it's not a bad thing, but if you're looking for smoothness then the HDC ain't for you. It's not a bad subwoofer at all. It's actually very good at what it does (which is getting LOUD). I didn't like the way they sounded but that's just me. Cuz they get fucking LOUD. We never metered the setup but they made it hard to breathe on just an AP1500d. They were tuned to 36 and peaked hard as hell (output dropped dramatically at about 32hz and under). I'm sure we could've rebuilt the box to make it smoother but there was no need, they were loud and the owner was happy. EDIT: Oh and purplesyrup don't let burp scores give you a boner. Like the guy above me said one SA-8 has hit a 50 before but would you buy one and expect to do 45's on music? Nope. You're looking for daily performance so don't get sucked into burp numbers. Ohhh okay, I get it now thanks man. Okay So I know sealed boxes give a way smoother frequency response curve. I know it won't be as loud but would you say this would help the peakyness and still get decently loud?
  9. Its all in the box, If you look on youtube too theres a single sundown SA-8 doing 150 in a small hatch back... its freaking impressive

  11. Is this a comedy central roast? haha these threads are awesome.
  12. Hey man, I was thinking the same thing. Ever since I started getting into car audio ( not too long ago ) I started reading up a lot and what not now all my buddies and their buddies are coming to me for info and suggestion. A friend of mines was looking into getting 2 15 L7's and I was going to suggest these ( the 15 HDC3's ) since they are cheaper but I'm sure should get as loud or louder but i don't want to suggest something without some feedback on the subs. Tuned in for the feedback.
  13. I didn't know this, I have my amp directly to the rear battery, but my amp has a fuse. Should I still fuse it for safety?
  14. Definitely would help your system. also if you do this it would help to ground your back battery with a 0 wag to the front and also grounding the amp directly to your rear battery. additionally, like teamHt said make sure your connections are all real good. When I first started with car audio I would do the basic crimp when I got really deep into it I started soldering leads and running ground wires directly to the battery which improved my connections a lot and therefore I had less voltage drop. PS I'm not sure of you did this but if you go to the XS site you can put which car you have and it tells you which is the biggest battery that would fit in your battery tray under the hood.
  15. Yeah basically what he said, all the top alternators are within your budget, its up to you to chose. Trey named the best ones
  16. My only question is. Is there a 45 on the bottom front of the enclosure. It looks like it but I'm not 100%. Also does it matter what router bit I use to round the openings of the port?
  17. I changed the pic above to see if it seems more clear to you, let me know your questions. All angled cuts are 45 deg. Okay man, thanks a lot for the help when I get it done ill let you know how it sounds and I probably will get request to build more boxes (in my friends circle everyone uses pre fab junk) lol
  18. Hey Joe X do you have a side angle i can reference? Im getting the sheet tomorrow and hopefully can get it done. I did my cut sheet already so i won't waste MDF and end up screwed.
  19. So is there a 45 on the front bottom also? Im not sure
  20. This. I'm thing AQ2200D/AQ3500D. I was going to suggest the same. The amps are awesome for the price that they sell.
  21. Mainstream and underground rap. Like Drake but also Tyler the Creator and old school like Notorious.
  22. Thats great, Im going to go with this and Ill let you know how it turns out, can you just help me with the 45s. How wide should they be? and are they all the same?
