  1. Ed, did Second Skin change damp pro again, or is this the old stuff before they changed it to black? I like the black. Last time I ordered it for the shop it was still black.
  2. Getting ready to build a system for in my garage with some old subs and an amp so we can listen to BASS while we build boxes heheh.
  3. I believe it's because of the regulated power supply, which attempts to always keep power output the same. How many of today's amps have regulated power supplies as opposed to unregulated? This would mean for the most part they can output the same power on a range of input voltages (say 11-15 volts). They will obviously draw more current the lower the voltage goes to make the same output power (Ohms Law). The most common amp that comes to my mind is the JL 1000.1 Slash series. These are regulated on both the input and output stages from 11-14.5 VDC and 1.5 to 4 ohm loads. Power output does vary slightly (a few hundred watts tops) but they are much more consistent than unregulated amps. Major drawbacks are efficiency and all that heat created when the voltage drops and current goes through the roof!
  4. Let me start by saying, in reference to your signature, they are made by the company American Bass, but yea you guessed it Made in China lol. That being said, the XFL's come in 10's 12's and 15's (dual 4) and you can get the 10's and 12's in dual 2 as well. It just happens they are the lowest line AB offers with a dual 2 coil configuration. I have been testing mine for about 3 months now. I also bought a brand new one that I will be doing a break in comparison too (how much louder do they get once broken in). Also, on purpose, I have been feeding mine a fully clipped 500 watt signal to test the affects of clipping at well under the RMS rating of the sub. So far, it gets a little warm, but I have yet to smell voice coils and the impedance has not changed. They get pretty loud off ~500 watts and seem to have good output even below port tuning. The suspension is very stiff of course. I will also be doing a direct comparison between an XFL 1222 and a FI Audio SSD 12. I will make some posts with my test results if your interested.
  5. Yeah liquid nails is fine. I personally prefer wood glue or wood glue and sawdust mixed. My current box is part wood part fiberglass so since I had the glass all ready for use after the box was complete I painted all the seams with resin for extra strength and to make sure it's sealed up. Hey Jared, My name is Jarred with 2 r's by the way lol. What wood glue do you use and how long does it take to completely cure? How long does it take that Tite Bond II to dry?
  6. Perfectly straight cuts!! Amen to that!! I LOVE my new Porter Cable table saw. It was worth the $550 price tag in the time it saves and how much easier it makes boxes to assemble. It would be silicone that is like rubber when it dries, Liquid Nail is much harder when dry.
  7. Liquid nail is what we use. Its $1.74 a tube at Lowes, pretty easy to apply and adds more strength than caulk. Do not Liquid Nail the faceplate on unless your sure you are not going to take it back off! I usually use 100% Silicone for the faceplate if you plan on building it, testing, and possibly modifying it in the future.
  8. The book that they come with has pretty good instructions on how to strap the amps. Did you buy these new or used, or are you just doing research before you buy? You should get 3000 clean out of these on 2 XFL 1222 wired down to 1 ohm and back up to 2 ohms, strapped the amps will see 1 ohm a piece plus box rise. If you have a low box rise you can see 3000 but if you have a couple ohms of box rise you will not get 3000 un-clipped. You could do 2 of the 1244 wired down to 2 ohms and down to 1 ohm, strapped the amps will see 0.5 ohms but you have to be careful of voltage drop and watch your impedance at different frequencies especially below tuning. You could get even more than 3000 out of them in this arrangement but it would be more of a burp setup and less optimal for a daily driver. My XFL 1222 is only seeing around 500 watts off my HD-2500 (rated at 1250 rms @ 1 ohm) because my box rise put the impedance up over 3 ohms at my peak frequency. But its still pretty loud.
  9. We have shows in md and de all the time and few in York those are all not to bad a normall drive for any show is 2 to 3 hours killallblue, are you having any more shows in MD this year? Were you at the NSPL show in Glene Burnie back on June 10th? That was the only one we attended this year in MD.
  10. Yea we usually check the dbDrags site becasue it has IASCA and NSPL shows as well but MECA does not show up on their site. He is competing in Street Stock this year with his car so we are going to all the shows close to PA to get enough points for world finals. That would be awesome to have a show in State College!! There used to be shows in central PA back in the early 2000's but no more I will volunteer use of our Term-Lab if its not a "official" show.
  11. I know there is one in Erie on August 19th, but I doubt many people anyone from SMD will be going to this aside from me if I finish my build in time. I always hear about comps on here but they are most likely in california lol.I would love to do a big show like this. I would love the road trip to go and see other people You have any more details on this show? I am guessing its not a dbDrags or anything like that. Closest comp to your area that I know of is in Willoughby, Oh on the 26th of August. BassHead810 and I will be there for that show. Maybe we will see you there!!
  12. Hey!! Just made this account about 30 minutes ago. I look at the recent posts and to my amazement I see this topic!! It must me a sign!! I am located in central PA close to Altoona. I was out of car audio for years and just now getting back into it. Look for username BassHead810 on the forums. He is my buddy from the same area of PA. We go to a lot of the dbDrags shows around (although there are not many in PA) Do you go to any competitions? Know of any in Erie?
