  1. Just to share some info. Jacob from Sundown recommended .75 sealed and 1.5 ported per sub, tuned to between 40 and 45. The only thing he didn't mention was port area. I will have to figure that one out on my own, but there is definitely some good info here I think. I think I can fit that box in my space. Figuring 1.5 sealed, 3 ported + port/sub/bracing, I think I can get that somewhere in the ballpark of my available space.
  2. Lol keep digging. The box for the e8s was built to Sundown's specs.. But that still doesn't change the fact that he will want to use more power than the 2 1100.1 Hifonics amps to run 4 SA 12s.... I think most anyone here will agree with that statement. I guess he could build a box that would reduce the power handling of the SA 8s, but why would he? If he build the box to specs (which most people do).. They will handle more power than he will be giving them. That is not to say it won't sound good, or meet his needs. I am just saying that the SA 8s can and will handle more power than he has available from those amplifiers. I will say no more about this. He can build what he wants based off whatever advice he wants. I was just trying to provide some advice (you should have done the same rather than just trolling me). Lets call this pissing match over..
  3. Lol, yep. On my amp the gain is set at roughly (not clear markings) 3V (3/4 gain as I am closer to 2.5 I think). On his amp, the gain was set closer to 9V (all the way down).... Since both of our amps have identical gain setting, and my head unit was used in both tests... I feel comfortable saying that his amp turned all the way down, was louder than my amp at 3/4 gain. Does this not make sense? I am not smart enough to say how much power his amp should make at 9V on the gain knob, but I know that mine should have been making somewhere around 1500-1700W with my electrical. And it was clear that his was making more. The point to this was that the e8 subs easily handled more power than my amp could put out.. The equipment that OP is looking at using makes less power than mine and he is using stronger subs... Therefore I suggested more power. You can be a dick and tear me down for the science behind it, but I am still right. No? And I am sure that OP thanks you for your helpful post.. No wonder your post count is so high.
  4. I can squeeze about 6.3 cubes out of that cargo space and still keep it level with the back seat. If I have to go taller it will suck but I might have to lol. Bradprobert, thanks man! Good stuff.
  5. Right on, thanks! Will see what I can come up with hehe. Am waiting to find out if I need surgery on my spine/shoulder then am gonna start build. Should be about 2 weeks. Just trying to compile as much info as possible before I start.
  6. If 2:1 is flat, would 1.5:1 be even flatter? And if so, would that totally ruin the spl? I am not trying to win any comps, but I would like to demo and move as much air as possible on the bottom end.
  7. I would suggest more power no matter what you do. I ran 3 e8s off a BRZ2100 (Hifonics) at 1.3 ohms and they needed more power. I thought I was running them hard til I hooked up a friends 3kw amp (not saying brand). We had to turn his gain all the way down and they were absolutely banging. With my amp, the gain was set using a dmm (not perfect but better than guessing) and the gain was about 3/4 up. His amp turned all the way down was louder than mine, and ran the subs better. I like hifonics, and am still running mine right now, but you DO get what you pay for lol. If my 3 e8s needed more than the brz 2100, your 4 SA 8s will need more than 2 1100.1s
  8. Thanks, that is actually the sort of info I am looking for. As I said above, since this IS the Sundown forum, hopefully someone here has experience with these subs and can share their actual experience as well. The challenge will be fitting what I want in a pretty limited space (06 scion xb, without removing rear seats). And people flat out ask for designs here all the time. But again, I am not. The design and dimensions will be my own. The specs will hopefully come from an overview of others experience with the SA series subs. Make sense?
  9. Wow lol... re-read please. I actually have no problem paying if someone was to design one with dimensions/cut sheet etc... But if you actually read, that is not what I am looking for. I was hoping that someone here had put a couple of 12s in a 4th, and wouldn't mind sharing what worked for them so I would have a starting point. I very specifically said that I don't need a design, I am looking for ADVICE on it. Way to up your post count though.. Thanks for the bump jerk.
  10. Anyone here able to help a little. I am trying to hit 25-60hz as cleanly as possible. Mainly for demo purposes. I am not looking for anyone to design it for me, I can work out dimensions and all that. I just need advice on volume, tuning, and port area. Due to space limitations I was thinking somewhere around .75 each sub sealed, and 1.5 each ported. As for tuning and port area I am clueless though. Thanks for any input.
  11. Biggest reason I can think of to run .5 ohms is budget lol. More power for same $$, as long as the amp (and your electrical) can handle it, it seems like a win-win situation.
  12. You can't go by that. I have seen an NS-1 run an SA 8 lol.... That doesn't mean the NS-1 was putting out 6500W though. Pretty sure an NS-1 at full power on an SA 8 would absolutely destroy the sub in a pretty short period of time. Since you are new to car audio and not a hardcore competitor (I am not that far behind you) I would match the RMS of the amp to the RMS of the sub, and make sure my gains were properly set.
  13. I know that these are not recommended for sealed applications. Anyone venture a guess as to whether they would work in a 4th order bandpass enclosure? With there being a sealed chamber, I am guessing maybe it won't work, since Jacob pretty clearly said they will not perform well sealed. Thoughts?
  14. When you say stock SIZE, you mean it can be like, 200a H/O but has to be direct fit? More specifically what alternator and battery/batteries are you running. If I need upgraded electrical running 2kw, I know you got something good going on at 4kw if you are setting records lol. Awesome score, Congrats!
  15. Would something like this benefit someone with a stock alternator? I have minor dimming issues. I am running an Optima blue top battery with the stock 80a alternator in a 2006 Scion xB. My amp is a Hifonics brz2100 at 1.3ohms (so less than 2kw power). I am already looking at alternators but if this might solve the problem cheaper.... Anyway, noob question I am sure, but meh... if I didn't ask I would never know lol. Thanks!
  16. I added polyfill to the box last night, and carpeted it. It sounds great when playing rap/dubstep or anything else with tons of low sustained bass. It sounds terrible when playing rock and most country. I don't know a whole lot about it, but maybe that is something to do with the high FS and low tuning? If so I am guessing it will smooth out over time since the FS will drop over time. If not, I am not that concerned. I got back into this as much for the intellectual challenge, as the actual sound itself. I thought I knew a lot when I was 16 hehe, more powa = more boom right?? Now at 36 I am learning that there is actual math/science involved in this and I am loving that side of it hehe. Thanks for all the info and any tips!
  17. Awesome!! Thank you Jacob. That is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Would it be possible for you to pm me the box volume and port length that you guys used? Aero ports screw me up when it comes to figuring tuning. Thanks again for the info on the subs!
  18. Not sure if this helps you much, but I have 3 e8v3 subs that are eating just about all a hifonics brz2100 can give them at 1.3 ohms. That is without having a DD1 or anything to set gains with, and I may or may not be clipping them, but they have never got warm and I haven't smelled anything. I blew up enough subs when I was young that I am definitely familiar with the smell too lol. I am sending them probably just under double their RMS. From what I have read, heard and seen, Sundown seems to underrate their subs a little bit in terms of power handling capability. The SA series I can't speak much about, but if they are built better than the E series, I would guess you can give them a fair bit more than RMS as long as you are careful and don't run them all day long like that. But that is my $.02 which is probably worth a bit less than that in this case hehe.
  19. The second picture shows the subs just sitting in there without being screwed down. But you can get an idea about the box. It is 35Wx17Hx11D. The prted recommendation is .5-.75 cubes each and I am right about 2.2 net (factoring port/sub displacement, there is no bracing atm). I resined the inside but had a small leak on my top baffle but was able to seal it with gorilla tape. Rest of box seems to not leak. The top picture shows the box in actual state with both baffles. The bottom pic was just fitment testing mostly.
  20. I noticed on the sundown site that there is no recommended sealed box for these? Would it not sound good? Also I noticed that the FS is in the 50s, why is that, when all of their other subs are so much lower. Also I noticed that the recommended tuning is at 35hz even though the FS is way higher. Not bashing anything, just asking questions. I have 3 of them tuned to 33hz in a box that is 2.2 cubes (net) running off a hifonics brz2100 and I am just not quite getting the sound I am looking for. 13in per foot of port area and I just don't feel like I am moving any air at all and the bass just isn't hitting that hard. Box seems a little peaky and not at all smooth. If my box is too small or would benefit from polyfill, I can rebuild or fix. But anyway, the real questions here are: Is there no sealed config that would work for these subs? Why is the FS so high and how does that affect things? The rest is just me thinking out loud and looking to see if anyone has any advice. I am thrilled with Sundown overall though, I just haven't found the setup that suits me quite yet I guess.
  21. I will be buying them, thanks to the constructive feedback of others. The youtube videos, others sharing their experiences and the recommendations that they have given are EXACTLY what I was looking for. I reported noelito because from his first post on, he has only came here to put me down, talk shit, and accuse me of breaking rules that I clearly didn't break lol. If that is what this community is about, then fine. But I don't think it is right for him to keep trolling this thread and taking the focus away from the constructive feedback of others. If the admin feels differently and that I am in the wrong then so be it.
  22. Is noelito just trying to raise his post count by continuing to come here and be an ass? It appears that way, reported to mod so hopefully the nonsense stops. Fortunately most of you get what I was asking and I really appreciate your responses.
