Photography people help a noob!

ok, so i love to take pictures, but im by no means a photographer. I am however in the market for a camera. so im asking whats the best bang for my buck?

Wanting something thats pretty user friendly, could possibly buy lenses for or accessories.

digital of coarse. I dont really wanna spend more than $400 on it. Any ideas?

Nikon D40 is a digital SLR with no shutter lag, GREAT image quality for the price, Easy to use Auto and Scene shooting modes, that let the camera do all the work, but when you get a little more experienced it is extremely full featured, and it is compatible with all nikon DX lenses, and Nikon Speedlights. The kit comes with EVERYTHING you need to start shooting except a memory card, but those are cheap now a days. The 18-55mm lens it comes with goes from wide enough to get panoramas up to a decent zoom. Brand new they aren't below 400, but it looks like some used ones are on amazon:

The Nikon SLR family is fantastic, we've been using them for years. Even down at the entry level models, they are exceptionally good.
