Installing a new compartment in a vehicle

Recommended Posts

Well ever since i saw meade cut out a portion in his tahoe for the batteries i went on a serious thinking streak. Is it at all possible in some vehicles under the back seat cut out a portion build a small compartment in there and use that piece of metal you cut out to make a lid. But of course use some kind of metal to make the compartment and weather seal it and dead it and what not.

Depends how much space (depth) you have, your experience, and tools.

You'd need some welding experience, and probably an angle grinder with a cutting wheel... Then yea, build up a box, shouldn't be too difficult, weld it on, or if u can't do that, bolt it on with L brackets... make sure its water tight.... but under the back seat is usually the gas tank...in most cars... Just saying. I'm not sure what vehicle u have but i just thought i'd mention that.

Most modern cars the gas tank is in that location although some older vehicles actually have the gas tank under the trunk .
