What Does The Tuning Actually Do?

Hey.

so ive been building some boxes and stuffs but i still have really NO clue what the tuning does.

the questions i have is.

1: If i tune my box to for example 32 hz. Is the amplification at the max @ 32 hz then?

actually thats my only question.

If you cant understand what i ment.. Please ask me to explane better
