So coming this spring, I'm going to be doing some upgrades to my car. I know for sure I want to run DC subs on somewhere in the 3k+rms area. I thought I was set on (2) DC XL 10's sealed off from the trunk, but then thought of a 15" Level 5... Both would be on an AQ 3500D.1. The 15" would not be sealed. I'm not sure of the exact price on the level 5, but I can assume it's about the same price as two XL 10's? Right now, I have an enclosure for a 15". I think it's about 3.5cu ft tuned to 39hz. Would it be a smarter idea to go with (2) XL 10's over the (1) level 5?

I would go with the 2 tens. More cone area. Plus to really get the level 5 moving you would want a bigger amp and turn the gain down to prevent cliping

ill PM you pricing.

but I like the XL 10s on the 3500, but wither would work really.

IMO i like sealed off from trunk though.

2 10s is actually less cone area by 20 or so square inches.

2 10s is actually less cone area by 20 or so square inches.

area of a cone is raduis squared time pi.

to 10/2 then squared and multiplied by pi.

so you have 10/2 = 5. 5x5=25 and 25x3.14 = 75.XX.

you then multiply your final number by 2 because you have 2 10s. so 150.xx square inches of cone where as 1 15 has 15/2 =7.5. 7.5x7.5=56.25 56.25*3.14= 175.xx iirc,

175 is more then 150.

Thanks dwright. I think I'm going to go with the 10's when the time is right. I remember seeing Thorshammer's 2 level 5's, and I loved the idea of looking back, and seeing two 10's pounding. Of course, that's provided that they're not Frankenwoofers I'm looking back at
