Most all AV software sucks, it slows down your computer, run backdoors on your .net connections! I only use 3 types of security software: 1. A good firewall program which locks down your pc 99.9% while using the internet or real-time memory usage. You have to really know how to setup your settings. Lock down all running .dll files, tcp connections. A great program is called tea-timer and comodo firewall. 2. A good disk image software program that only makes backups of most recent file additions. Ghost image software is great, don't need to worry about having a large RAID or backup software running 24/7. 3. Don't use warezs, porn, file-sharing sites, stay away from free software sites. Use a VM software OS from USB when surfing the Internet. Find a good encryption software like TrueCrypt so you can encrypt your drive on the fly. I for one will never use anything else. For one, the trackpad absolutely rapes the living shit out of any comparable trackpad out there. period. Secondly, The cost increase is bogus. Thy are DEcreasing dramatically. For example: My sister bought an entry level macbook in 2007 when she went off for college, for 1300. I just went off to school this year, and i bought a macbook pro, the higher end 13" version, and after the educational discounts and selling the free ipod and printer, came to under a grand. Ive never ran virus software customer serice has ALWAYS been excellent. And battery life is 10 hours, vs 3-5 average from a pc. But thats just me. Yes, hardware for hardware, it may be more expensive, but in my mind, it is worth it 1000 times over. My gf has an hp laptop and i hate using it, except the fingerprint reader that allows you to never have to put passwords into websites is pretty damn legit as it seems like every website these days needs a password/login of some sort.
