12v and 14v battery's

Recommended Posts

Could I use an xs1400 for daily driving?

With a vcm I'm able to boost my voltage.

On one of the videos xs doesn't recommend going above 15.2 on a 12v batt.

If I wanted to be able to get more voltage could I use a 14v without blowin all my stuff up?

I was going to do a 12 and 14v system in my truck because i was unsure if my stock electrical would like the 16+ volts. Turns out that Mechman has been running a silverado with a d1400 and VCM for over a year on the stock alt. Of course the VCM is used to boost up the charging voltage of the stock alt. I will be doing this on my suburban here soon. taking all the 12v batteries out and using the Mechman VBCM to boost my dual alt up to charge 4 D1400s. You however may want to talk to someone that knows more about your specific vehicle. See Mechman did it on a Silverado and I will be on a similar year Suburban so I am confident mine will work no problem. Besides that with my MLA ona freezing cold day my truck will charge in the lower 16s and i have never had any issues...and that was running an all 12v system . So check with someone that knows more about your specific vehicle first. Or you could do a step down box so you dont have to worry.

Thats what the VCM does. Allows you to boost your voltage.

Also OP just FYI i paid $159 for the Mechman VBCM that will control dual alts. It doesn't have the fancy display but it does the same thing. Not sure what the VCM goes for. Also Mechman pretty much guaranteed a 48 hour delivery where I heard that XS is having a tough time getting the VCMs out on time...talking months. Just what I heard.

I got the vcm under control.

Just trying to utilize it the most I can.

How does a step down box work?

And it would probly be a bad idea to mix up the 12v and 14v batts right?
