It is making a loud annoying noise, like bad bearings I guess you could say. Its driving me nuts. I'm going to open her up and disable the fan if I can't repair it. BassJunkie Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 It probably wouldn't make it much past boot. I had a customers computer who had the same issue. My fix: Open the computer up and take the fan out, carefully pull the fan off the motor and clean it all up. Pour some lighter fluid on the motor and spin it by hand, let it dry out reinstall the fan blade reinstall the fan in the computer and if the fan isn't completely toasted this should fix it for atleast a few months if not years. BassJunkie Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 If the fan is toasted however I forgot to mention that we were able to use the computer with a chill pad with no issues, not that i'd recommend it. Also I sell and part out laptops, if its an hp I may have a fan for you for a small charge. But i would definitely try to fix it without replacing it first. xStatezOfMindZx Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) You should replace the fan, they are cheap. It will overheat and you will kill your laptop. You may only get a few days, weeks or even a month depending on what type of cpu and video card you have inside. You can fix it yourself with lube, just use any lightweight mechanical oil, such as 3-in-1 household oil, will do just fine. You need to use only a single drop of oil. You should discover that the fan is running faster and quieter. Take the fan out, remove the sticker in the center of the fan. Pop off the middle cap, aka plastic plug and place one drop of oil in it. Put the plug back on, with the sticker over it. Connect it and your done! Your fan should last for at least 5 to 7 years. OrionStang Posted May 16, 2011 Author Report Posted May 16, 2011 Took it apart, cleaned and lubed it. Still a little noisy, but not near as bad as before.
