hooking up extra speakers

so i get how to hook up subs, and how to REPLACE old speakers, my question is about installing extra speakers, and tweeters. do i "need" and amp, and if i do use an amp, do i need a special kind of amp, or to install it the amp a different way? any help would be great.

but just for a little run down -

your factory speakers are running off your factory radio. if you install an aftermarket head unit, and a wiring harness, your aftermarket speakers will be running off that radio. most headunits only put out like 14 watts or something. however, if you understand how to wire up a sub amp, wiring a mids/highs amp should be a cinch.

alls you have to do is run the rcas from the headunit Front and Rear outputs to a 4 channel amp. I'm going to just assume you want to run 4 speakers in the car so a 4 channel amp is the way to go. once you have that amp set up, properly powered and grounded and all that, run the wires to your speakers in the car.

if you want to add MORE speakers (for example, I have 8 speakers in each of my front doors), your going to need to wire up additionally amplifiers and learn how to wire the speakers in series and parallel, depending on what your ideal OHM load is. This gets a bit more complicated and, in some ways, risky, then just running 4 off a 4 channel. For now you should do that, you'd be surprised at how loud and clear some good components and a set of coaxials will sound.
