MustangGT Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 (edited) I'm thinking about building my first box ever. It's for a jl 12w6v1 and I'm powering it with a jl 500/1. I'm debating on sealed or ported, witch would you guys recommend. I mostly listen to rap and Spanish. And its on a 00stang gt. Edited June 16, 2011 by EduardoPlascencia Quote
MustangGT Posted June 16, 2011 Author Report Posted June 16, 2011 Anyone that could help out with my question. Quote
Hotdog Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 JL recommends 1.5ft^3 for that sub ported and ported would probably be your best bet. You would have to measure out the area you plan on putting the sub then design the enclosure to have 1.5ft^3 after sub and port displacement. MustangGT Posted June 16, 2011 Author Report Posted June 16, 2011 Ok thanks, cause I have it now on a pre fab box and I feel like its too big. I hope it will sound better in an appropriate box. And what should I tune it to? Quote

And what should I tune it to? 34 to 36hz seems to work for a lot of people. and a custom box designed for the sub will sound a lot better then a prefab. Hotdog Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 (edited) yours is a version 1 so you need 2.25ft^3 net for the enclosure 0.085 ft^3 is your Sub displacement you will need to factor in your port and bracing displacement too. use the torres calculator on this site and it will help you determine the proper enclosure. MustangGT Posted June 16, 2011 Author Report Posted June 16, 2011 Ok thanks. I checked jl web site and they recommend 2.25ft^3 for a ported box. Just double checking witch is the correct., 1.5ft^3 or 2.25ft^3? Quote
