sprkn_ranger
Well yesterday I sold my 1994 chevy suburban to a friend and her boyfriend. It had always been a good car to my wife and me with no major problems the whole time we owned it. My friends boyfriend rebuilds transmissions for a living and seemed to know his stuff after talking with him a bit. The deal ended up closing at about 10:40 PM last night (6/18) and they drove off happy to have another vehicle. Well this morning I'm on facebook and I see a post from my friend saying she's never gonna buy a used car without a warranty again. So I text her asking what happened and she tells me that they drive to Laguna Hills to tow a Tahoe up to Hesperia and it starts shifting weird on them so the take it to a nearby jiffy lube and have all the fluids changed on it. Then she tells me they go to leave the house they are picking up the Tahoe from and they can't even start the vehicle anymore, so they now have to tow it home. What bothers me is that I feel bad that I sold a car to a friend that put them in that situation. The friendship is probably gone and I made a whole $2400 out of the deal. So I guess the moral of the story is, don't sell old cars to friends cause ANYTHING can happen. Sorry for the long rant, I just thought I was selling a decent car to a friend, but now I feel like I sold my friendship for $2400 bucks. vettedude102
Don't feel too bad cause sometimes stuff happens. It isn't like you always had problems out of it. TheNewbie
Hey man, well honestly it's all of bad fortune, unless you intentionally knew there was something wrong with the truck there is no reason to feel bad, i know saying that most likely wouldn't help, i know it wouldn't help me, but to clear your head you could possibly have them get it inspected, and if it's around 200-300 bucks to fix whatever is wrong, you could fix it, this is all in preference man, that 200-300 bucks could not only clear your head, but also save your friendship. Best of luck to you man. Quote Check out my build log: http://www.stevemead...60#entry1958353 Different folks have different strokes.
sprkn_ranger
Well the only reason I feel bad is cause she seemed real upset about it and I think the friendship is done. But I completely agree that its out of my control and, hey, shit happens. And your right I never had any problems with it while I had it. I'm a mechanic myself and I can honestly say that there was nothing showing any signs of imminent failure. TheNewbie
Right, well like i had said before if it wasn't intentional then there isn't anything you should feel bad about. sprkn_ranger
Yea I see your point. I'll have to wait and see how she acts toward me after she calms down. I have a feeling that her boyfriend drove it too hard before properly getting a feel for it's capabilitys first. I haven't driven it in a while cause we had bought a newer Tahoe a couple months back. And the first time they drive it they pull a car trailer with a Tahoe on it. I dunno for all I know, he drove it into the ground. TheNewbie
Yeah that could be the case, i don't know to much about Trucks ect. But im sure it should have been able to tow that without having a hassle, it could all just be a misfortune man, i agree with you on seeing if she calms down, if she is still raging at you and not wanting to hear it, well the friendship is done anyways, why are you going to fix someones truck that you tried to be nice to and fix it when there just gunna yell at you over it? TheNewbie
Also shes most likely pissed now because she thinks the car was faulty, but because she most likely had a big ass fine for having to tow it so far. sprkn_ranger
The suburban was a 2500 series with the 454 big block in it. It DEFINITLY was capable of pulling the trailer with a Tahoe on it. I'm not going to help pay for anything cause I'm not sure how he drove the vehicle and I'm really not in a financial position to be doing that anyway. The more I think about it the less I feel bad now.
