Well, finally another update. It's too late in the day to call up mechman, So I'm going to post a thread in their section and then give em a call tomorrow morning. ANYWAY I finally got the alternator in! Had my mechanic fab me up a new bracket and the alternator fits perfectly. Now the only problem is RPM's. What I'm pretty sure the problem is has to do with what my car idles at. I don't know what RPM this 220 amp alt puts out power at, but it's not charging at idle in drive. Only in Park after my Mechanic bumped up the RPMS's at idle in park did the alt start charging. I keep running into problems D: I probably should have seen this coming, i mean my engine is tiny and a 220 amp alt is really big for my size engine. However, while driving this alt is a beast! In park it's doing alright with voltage, I'll still drop down into the high 12's, but I'm guessing that's because of my battery. Once I get the money to buy fuses and other things, I'll be adding the second battery in the back. I'm uploading a video of what the problem is and a short flex vid in a minute.

Here's the video I took yesterday. It's cool because now I can do flex videos. My voltage doesn't drop too bad in park so I can turn it up and take a video.

  • 3 weeks later...

Been a good while since I've done anything...I feel bad D:

At any rate, here are some pictures of the latest. As we all know, money dictates progress for those who don't have it LOL so needless to say, I have't been able to do much. But here's what I HAVE done.

But just a short story, the reason why I haven't done much with the car is because:

1. I wanted to put the deadener in, but I wanted to do that at the same time as my false floor

2. I didn't want to do my false floor until I could get my 2nd battery in, which required fuses which I DIDN'T have

3. I didn't want to yank all of my stuff out for some deadener and then put it back in just to take it out later to do the floor

either way, I ran into some cash and got some shok industry fuses holders, which allowed me to complete work on the car.

The good Ol' Peel N' Seal...not. Bad idea, guys.

P7270022.jpg

I decided it was time for all of this shit to go, so I got it all off. It was a bitch to do.

P7270025.jpg

P7270026.jpg

It honestly looked like someone smeared shit all over the top of my trunk...

P7290027.jpg

Goof Off is the best! It cut through the residue left on my trunk like nothing! I got an aerosol version of the stuff at walmart for like 4 bucks. Great stuff!

Now onto the REAL sound deadener. 25 sqft of audiotechnix!

P7290028.jpg

P7290029.jpg

P7290030.jpg

I was so happy to get the trunk lid done, and the next day I decided to start on the other parts of the trunk.

P8010038.jpg

P8010039.jpg

P8010040.jpg

P7290034.jpg

This stuff does so much more for flex now!

And finally, the false floor. This sum'bitch was a pain in the ass to fit, but I got it!

P8010045.jpg

P8010046.jpg

This little edge was what caused me to make about 5 different cuts/shavings with my jigsaw JUST to get it in.

But I got it in!

P8010047.jpg

P8010048.jpg

Ignore the water mark(s) on the wood, there was unexpected rain in the middle of the night in SoCal, and since my "father" is such a lazy ass fucking packrat who can't get rid of ANYTHING, I have nowhere to put my MDF. So it sat out in light rain for about 3 or 4 hours before I could dry it and let it dry in the sun. And if all else fails, I'll replace this floor with a more ideal type of wood like Birch, so it's easier on my car's suspension.

So that's all I have for now, I'll be editing and uploading some videos to my YT channel tomorrow, so look out for links to those! Also, I am going to get to work on running my wires to hook up my Batt! Things are slowly coming together..maybe I'll be done in time for Sept. SOTM...

Thanks! And the Audiotechnix is great! It's really easy to apply and so far I've been able to notice a HUGE difference in sound. It's the epitome of bang for your buck.

Finally another update!

I've had this stuff done for a few days now, but I'm just getting around to uploading to photobucket cause I'm lazy =p.

So here are some pictures of what I've done to move this build along!

This was my next task. Getting this in securely so it didn't move around.

P8030078.jpg

This is what I came up with.

P8020051-1.jpg

A pile of the cuts

P8020050-1.jpg

Just trying to mock up the box

P8020052.jpg

P8020055.jpg

And then came the glue

P8020056.jpg

That's why I cut that little hole in the side panel :)

P8020053.jpg

NOTE THIS IS MY FIRST EVER DABBLE WITH BOX BUILDING ANYTHING! I have NEVER in my life built a 3 dimensional object out of wood, so excuse it's shitty-ness.

Started to use the screws now

P8020057.jpg

And here is what it sits like with the battery in it.

Now, I had a LOT more pictures, but I realized I tok half of them with my memory card out of the camera, so I don't have as many as I would like :(. Oh well, I still have some.

I needed to start soldering terminals to get the battery all hooked up, so that's what I did.

P8020061.jpg

These lugs are SO MUCH EASIER to solder than ring terminals. THANKS to audiofanaticz for showing this on his videos! All you do is flip the terminal upside down and fill it with flux and solder then stick the wire in! It's new to me, and I'm doing this from now on!

The battery box and how it sits in the trunk.

Another solder job

P8020065.jpg

The backside of the batt box

P8030075.jpg

How the wires come into the box

P8030076.jpg

This is the top of the batt box, I wanted the amp right above the battery.

How it all came together

Grounding point for my amp and batt

P8030080.jpg

A little blue light! We're back in business!

P8030082.jpg

So that's all I have for now, I'm completely drained of spendable cash right now. I have to save up for a mini vacation with some buddies, so I probably wont be able to do much until I start school again. But I envision sub upgrades and a new box in the near future! Who knows :)

Just for fun I took some shots of internals of the AP1500, so I figure I'll post some here for all you to look at. It's a stout lil' guy!

Another update. I started my car earlier this morning to go get some gas and run some errands, and my alternator doesn't charge. My car needed gas , so I drove to the gas station and back at around 12 volts. I probed the battery, and I got 12 volt reading. Then I probed the Alternator itself (at the Pos+ post and the casing ground) and still got a 12 volt reading. SOOOO the alternator is pretty much dust. I'm gonna try to get a refund from mechman and send the unit back. I really don't want to have to do business from 5+ states away, and I'm feeling like I might get a new car sometime in the near future. Anyways, Tomorrow my mechanic is gonna make something to fit the bracket he made to get the old alternator back in. I have to drive to palm springs tomorrow, so this just happened at a perfect time!

And no hard feelings towards Mechman or any of their products, the alternator worked great up until now. I would just rather not have the risk of something happening again, and then have to pay shipping to send the alternator cross country to get it fixed.
